Out With the Old, In With the New, Happy New Year! MMP

Morning all. Painter is due at 9am to give me an estimate, then need to go grocery shopping for January, probably at Wal-Mart (I tend to rotate between Wal-Mart, Kroger and Pubix for my shopping needs). Still raining here and looks like more is coming.

Sari, good luck with both the bratty cat and the remodel.

swampy, supposed to get to 60F today here in N. Ali-bama, certainly not winter weather as I am used to, but my Gas bill could get used to it…

Peaches, my families seem pretty spread out and we’re rather sparse in numbers anyway, so no problems here.

All y’all stay dry for Firday. Need to get dressed properly for the visitor.

I have saved $300 into my seekret vacation bank account. The $300 is from not smoking. Vacation is either September 2020 or May 2021, depending on what the weather is like in northern England.

Back from erranding. **FCD **went along, so I couldn’t do all I wanted to do, but I took care of the important stuff.

I’m thinking of making shrimp scampi for supper. I’ll check a few recipes before pulling the shrimps out of the freezer. Other than that, not a lot to do today. This retirement stuff is pretty easy to adapt to!

**WetOne **- I was in Scotland, which, of course, is north of northern England, in late Sept/early Oct, and I don’t recall the weather being particularly unpleasant. It was freekin’ cold in Iceland about that time, but since you’re not going there, it’s not an issue, is it?

Today is a telecommuting day. I can’t connect to my irk computer. I restarted my Mac, and a cow-orker restarted the PC at my desk. No joy. Our admin, who was our IT gatekeeper, left for greener pastures on Tuesday. The new admin isn’t in yet, and I don’t know if she’d know what to do. Our receptionist is probably in now, but I found an email on our webmail (to which I can connect) that says we can email ‘Help’ for IT issues. So I did.

Or knowing this place and all of us, Saint Dymphna; the OFFICIAL Patron Saint of Mumpers everywhere.

The VPN connectivity issue has been fixed. Apparently there was an update, and it broke the connection.

**ruble **- you’re a sick, sick man… :stuck_out_tongue:

Just taking a break from knittage - I had to make a mug of tea to soothe my throat. Back to my recliner now…

I feel much better today. Not well but better. I am still at irk but thinking of packing it in in a few minutes. TGIF.

I am looking forward to the weekend. I have things that need doing. One is to take the Christmas tree down. Laundry is piled up too. Maybe I will feel like doing some of that stuff.

Happy Weekend everyone!

Ehh, could be anything; September can be glorious, but this year it barely stopped raining, with quite a few storms. May isn’t so prone to storms and endless rain, but it’ll likely still be chilly, and will almost certainly have at least a few very wet days. Regardless, we will grumble about it.

Yeah… family trees… My mother’s side has decidedly fewer branches than one would like.

Basically, it’s the fault of the class system; they were Gentleman farmers, basically they owned the farm (nice big wealthy farm, still in the family), would have had servants, but still did much of the farm work themselves. This was a pretty narrow social class; not true gentlemen by the standards of the day, but too wealthy to consider a mere tenant farmer or the lower classes an acceptable partner. Basically, they were limited to other gentleman farmers or maybe shop owners. Also, they were somewhat sedentary; there really weren’t many options to visit and still get back to do the milking.

Marrying your first cousin is perfectly legal here. Even if they’re also your second cousin. A fact very obvious if you visit the family graveyard. First time me and my brother went there, we both counted our toes and checked 'em for webbing afterwards…

I used to think ‘Well, at least Dad’s side of the family were from another county, and mill workers weren’t nearly as restricted’ but then I did a bit of digging on that side, discovered that Dad’s Mum and paternal grandmother shared a really unusual maiden name and decided I didn’t want to look any more.

Afternoon all. Grocery shopping is complete and the larder is stocked again. Also picked up 36 rolls of toilet paper as I was in ‘get swampy the fainting couch’ territory. Still raining and from the looks of things it’ll stay that way for awhile yet.

Painter was in, awaiting his pricing before starting to get things arranged. Got the estimate for the new flooring arrangement, after I started breathing again I can see a couple of places to save $$$, but since I only do this every 20 years or so, I think I can manage it.

ruble, had to look Saint Dymphna up, can’t disagree with you but I do wonder how you found out about her (the Catlick church has so many saints it’s impossible to keep track of them all).

Take care all.

I wasn’t too impressed with the shrimp scampi - I don’t think anyone was. Oh well… At least the dishes are done/getting done.

It’s still drizzly out. I shall resume the recline position.

IT’S TIME FOR A 2020 PICK YOUR RESPONSE!

a) And I was when I got here!
b) More-so since I got here!
c) And this surprises you how?
d) At least I don’t live in Ar-kansas.

Dinner was leftover ribs from the smoke-fest on Wednesday. These were ones we got used at Sam’s because they were like .80 a pound and looked really good. Boneless and some of the thinnest ribs I’ve ever done and just lightly scored. It was more like this slab of porcine goodness. We heated them in the oven in a new cast iron skillet (12 incher) I got cheap this week on eBay N-OS and gave them a light coating of BBQ sauce. The go-with was corn with some sweet and jalapeno peppers mixed in.

Oh – and we loaded the old dining room table (no takers) into the car to give to a local church that warehouses such things for families in need.

Shrimp, garlic and butter, what could go wrong?
We were let out at noon again from work. The new dishwasher still works. There is a slow leak in the pentagonal tank. I’ve begun preparations to move the inhabits to a couple of twenty gallon tanks. Those who live in holes in the rocks want to hide in the rock when I move it. Gotta figure a way around that.

<snerk> ruble, St. Dymphna is the perfect Mumper patron. Side note: I had a fifth grade teacher called Sister Dymphna.

Irked all day today, mostly doing reports, sending emails and updating work instructions. It’s been a rainy day, so’s no dog park visit after irk. House special soup from the cheap Chinese down the street for supper.

The Hell did you put them?

Weren’t you damn embarrassed? A guy buying toilet paper? 36 damn rolls at that? How do you live with yourself, man? :dubious:

Get a suitable sized bowl from the kitchen. With the bowl in one hand, under the water, reach in with the other hand and put the rock, and fish, in the bowl. Now lift the bowl out, with rock, and water, and put the bowl into the new tank. Reach in with your other hand and remove rock, complete with fish, from bowl and deposit on bottom of new tank.

Um, these aren’t Lion fish are they? Well, no matter.

I made escargots tonight. I usually buy snails from the supermarket, but they don’t/no longer have them where I usually shop; so I got Roland brand from Amazon. They’re very large. Mrs. L.A. could only eat four of them.

I also reheated some prime rib and creamed spinach w/feta from Christmas dinner. I’ve had two glasses of Yellow Tail red wine, and I’m working on a glass of O’Mara’s Irish Cream (made with wine instead of whisky). Yum.

They are damn big rocks, and little bitty fish.

In the same places I the hell put them before.

Let’s say I live…comfortably…

Rain has finally moved out of the neighborhood (at least for the time being). No soccer until the afternoon so I may do stuff tomorrow morning (or not).
See y’all Sattiday.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 61 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 63 and maybe N.O.S. this afternoon. Or not. TWPTB are willy-nilly about this. This mornin’ we shall go over to the church house as I have a few [del]church janitor[/del] Junior Warden things to take care of there. OYKW has a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for Waffle House (we’re such gourmands!) so we shall N.O.L. at the one closest to da cave as it’s near the Pubic Sto’ and a few comestibles are needed. Also tomorrow is Brunch Sunday so I shall make couch chikin, green beans and a gallon each of sweet and unsweet tea. That should be enough stuff to keep the both of us outta major trouble today.

flytrap are you sayin’ you don’t have a special dedicated room for tp? Philistine!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, alack and bother I suppose I should purtify and don appropriate bein’ about the public attire. Adultin’ is so hard!

Happy Sattidy Y’all!
