Here’s the idea: 1) The first poster names something, anything, that could be labeled “overrated” or “underrated” by someone else. 2) The next poster responds with “Overrated!” or “Underrated!”, gives their reasoning as to why, and then names their own thing to be judged. 3)Repeat.
(Does this qualify as an SDMB game? It’s my first try. Perhaps it belongs in IMHO.)
Slow. Would lose the next 100 races to the hare. Make lousy pets. Supposedly will bite your private parts in the lake. Constantly getting run over despite their supposedly helpful “shell” protection.
I guess a lot depends on where and when you grew up, but I’d say that for most people of my generation (or subsequent generations)…

“Mom’s Home Cooking” is highly overrated.**
It’s NOT that my Mom was a bad cook, or that I hated what she served me. It’s more that I grew up in the Sixties and Seventies with a lot of prepackaged foods. Oh, I liked it all at the time! I still do. Grilled cheese with Campbell’s tomato soup was a great lunch. Shake and Bake chicken with Kraft macaroni and cheese was a perfectly fine dinner. I’m no food snob.
But my Mom didn’t make anything I can’t make just as well and just as easily myself. So, when a commercial tries to tug at my heartstrings by saying “These cookies are just like the ones Mama used to make,” well, I think to myself “My Mom mostly bought Chips Ahoy, and when she baked cookies, she cut them from pre-made Pillsbury dough.”
My Mom is a wonderful woman who always made perfectly fine dinners and lunches for four kids- she deserves a lot of credit for that. But nothing worth getting misty-eyed or nostalgic over. And most of my contemporaries would say the same. New topic: The Toyota Prius
Underrated. Nudity, violence, dragons, and zombies = awesome. And even though it gets good numbers for a premium cable show, there’s a lot of crap on TV that gets much higher ratings.
