Palin: Dear Media, Leave My Family Alone. Also, Please Buy My Reality Show

Yeah, yeah, yeah. It’s another Sarah Palin thread.

Sarah Palin wants TV crews to follow her family around.

Final nail in the coffin of her credibility. Oh, wait. She never had any. But you have to marvel at her hypocrisy, given her defensiveness when ever her family is mentioned (in Palinese, “attacked”) by the media. Now she’s willing to sell them out.

No, it makes perfect sense. Any time they’re perceived negatively, it’s another attack on them. It pays to have as many “attacks” at them as possible. I bet she really is thinking that.

Wow.

Sad thing? Not even this will sway the Palinistas. I’m predicting this headline:

This week in News of the Armageddon: Failed Sportscaster and Disgraced Reality TV Star Wins Presidential Election. Roads into Canada Blocked with Refugees.

Am I the only one who view the Palin candidacy as the best news in the last forty years? Let’s start a campaign to get her to support an amendment so she can head a Palin/Swartzenegger ticket!!

Tris

Why, because she’s so ridiculously unelectable? Remember how ridiculously unelectable GWB was for term #2? Never underestimate the mind-boggling gullibility of middle America.

Hey! Media!
Leave my kids alone…

How can you have a reality show when you’re shielding your kids?
How can you shield your kids when you have a reality show?

with all due apologies to Roger Waters and Pink Floyd

She’s turned into a caricature of herself.

That’s her NPD all over. She wants and craves the media attention. She can’t stand not having it even for a week, but she only wants positive media attention. Anything critical is 'attacking my family." The absolute LAST thing she wants is for the media to leave her family alone. She desperately wants the media to stay right where it is. She’ll make a bed on the couch for it, if that’s what it takes. She just wants it to be unremittingly fawning while it stays…

As much crap as was thrown by the right about Obama being a Democratic “Messiah,” and calling him “the One,” Palin is as pure an example of the politics of a personality cult as we’re evr going to find. Her entire political gestalt is based on herself as a focus of veneration. It’s not about any particular political ideas or philosophy (she has none to speak of). She voices vague, red meat platitudes about Jesus, guns, [del]budget[/del] tax cuts, and “lifting America’s spirits,” but in essence she is a classic personality cult. Her politics is Herself, and worship of Herself, and hatred of those who don’t worship Herself.

She’s a narcissist on an unusually grand level. She’d have made a good North Korean dictator.

That’s it, in a nutshell. She loves the positive, adoring media attention towards her family, but takes it personally when the media goes negative on her family. She either doesn’t comprehend that you can’t have one without the other, or she is seeking to change that dynamic; in either case, she’s a fool.

That said, I believe fairness requires pointing out that the media started it… by which I mean that the first blow in this war was the “Palin Faked Her Pregnancy,” garbage. At the time, I regarded this as unjustified in the extreme.

Based on recent events, I think it’s mere chance – Palin would have “hit first” if she had the opportunity to.

The media always starts it, but Obama (by way of example) never whined about media speculation that he’s a secret Kenyan/Muslim/Communist.

The faked pregnancy allegation was one public post on Kos (not BY Kos, just ON Kos), that was immediately excoriated by the majority of other posters, was quickly removed and was never given the slightest bit of credibility by any part of the mainstream media. If public posts on websites count as “the media,” then no one has been more reviled by “the media” than Barack Obama.

The truth is that the media has been very circumspect about Palin’s family, espoecially the news media. That stupid Kos thing was one of the best things that could have happened to her. For one thing, it totally softened the blow when it was revealed that her daughter really was pregnant, but it also served to swing some elbows and box out the media from trying to be too aggressive (at least initially) about pursuing legitimate scrutinty of her biography. It’s also the one stupid thing that she and her followers always fall back on whenever any media outlest anywhere reports something unflattering about her. “The media attacked her family,” therefore nothing reported anywhere can be true or legitimate.

One can only wonder why Obama’s family seems oddly able to generate only positive coverage from the media. Clearly it isn’t the case that positive coverage must ipso-facto result in corresponding negative coverage.

I wonder why that is, hmmm?

It’s because one isn’t very smart.

If only there were media figures willing to take on Obama. A whole network would be nice, but who’re we kidding, that’ll never happen. Just one commentator would do. To bad.

Ooh, ooh, I almost forgot. The Clintons trotted Chelsea out to try to try to help her mother get elected, and the media followed like sheep when the Clintons put her off limits.

One is left to wonder why that is also. If one didn’t know better, one might suspect it’s because these families are…wait for it…DEMOCRATS!

Find me one example of a Democrat hawking a reality show about his or her own family.

You’d have a point if MSNBC was the only media source going after Palin’s family.

Yeah, but you still wouldn’t.

Apart from the fact that this has nothing to do with anything, the media (and late-night talk show) abuse directed at Palin’s family far precedes talk of a potential reality show.

And come to think of it, when’s the last time you saw David Letterman or Jay Leno making fun of Obama’s family?

The fact is that the left doesn’t have a leg to stand on when it comes to denying media bias. It’s like arguing that 2+2=…uh…anything but 4.

That is not my recollection.

While it may have begun with one post on Kos, it was carried by other media outlets – and it’s no defense to claim that they were reporting “on the controversial post” instead of on the truth of the controversial claims the post made.

And if the SDMB itself is any bellwether, the claim got some mileage here, with several posters here demanding to know why Palin wouldn’t release her medical records if there was nothing to hide.

You don’t recall any of that?
