Y’know, Dio, he’s (Bricker, that is) given you everything you’ve explicitly asked for. He’s been timely, he’s been concise, he even put this in his first post to the thread:
I’d like to think of you as being a big enough man to concede the point, while understanding that even he (Bricker again) seems to agree that on whatever celestial scoreboard a body might wish to consult, SP’s still not even close to the higher ground.
Andrew Sullivan’s blog? That’s the best you can do? Nice slight of hand calling it “The Atlantic.”
Sullivan (who is a conservative, by the way), did not allege the the claim was true, he just asked the Palin’McCain campaign to put an end to it by producing some medical records or a doctor or something.
He also updated that same blog a few hours later to report that the claims had been debunked.
If the best you can do for proving the media ran with the fake pregnancy story is that a conservative blogger asked her to produce some medical records, then I think you’ve conceded my point.
I do not concede that Palin herself was ever actually “hit” by a media attack on her family. I think she and the conservative media used (possibly even planted) a single internet post on a lefty website to create a phony impression of a media assault that never happened.
And if you check out the next article, they posted a followup the very next day, in which they say that they received proof which corroborates her story . Actually, it was six hours later.
Is this in any way comparable to the demands that Obama prove he’s a US citizen, which persist even to this day?
You may say that we’re moving the goalposts… but I think it could be argued that the legitimate questions (seriously, a seven-hour unnecessary flight while in labor!?) about her pregnancy are nowhere near the other attacks we’ve seen on, and from, both sides in the last two years. Calling it an “attack” would seem to be stretching the meaning of the word.
Sullivan is not merely a blogger, and his column was provided as a credible cite by many people on this board when the topic was “documenting Sarah Palin’s lies.” I don’t remember your leaping up at that time objecting to its use.
There’s the bell, and the goalposts are off! Moving down the stretch and approaching the first turn, it’s a tight race!
Second cite: Reuter’s news service carried the report, as evidenced by this CBS story (Reuters itself took down their story after Palin revealed Bristol was pregnant and thus couldn’t have given birth to Trig.)
Sullivan’s credibility a a cite is neither here nor there. The point is that he is not “the media,” and more importantly he did not advocate for the fake pregnacy calim, but only asked the McCain campaign to put an end to it. You also didn’t acknowledge that Sullivan updated the story to say the claim had been debunked within a few hours.
Sorry, but this counts for nothing.
It’s kind of lame to accuse people of moving the goal posts when your kick just came up short, but let’s look at your next attempt.
I’m afraid I don’t understand what this is supposed to prove. What was the “first report.”
This is really weak beer, Rick. I’m surprised. I thought youd’d find something, but I thought it would be better than a conservative blogger asking for medical records, and a Reuters story saying the claim was false.
You guys keep bringing up Fox. Fox doesn’t comprise 5% of the nation’s media or represent 5% of the media messages that go out every day…if even that.
I can tell you exactly what would happen if one of Obama’s daughters were to get pregnant at some point in the future. The media would flood us with poignant stories of teen pregnancy and what the country must do to try to contend with the problems it presents. Talk shows like Oprah’s would do the same. The women on The View would be full of sympathetic stories about daughters of people of their own acquaintance who tragically became pregnant at an early age and suggest that we start giving out birth control pills and condoms to kids at school starting at around the fifth grade or so. The Obamas’ requests for privacy would largely be observed and the entire issue would be treated with respect and the gravest of concern.
But the Palins? HaHaHa! What a bunch of trailer-parkers!
Well, for someone who is so sensitive about digs at her family, especially her kids, I can’t imagine a worse idea than putting them in a reality show. I mean, what could possibly go wrong, right? :dubious:
At best, she’d be doing a favor for Alaska, by promoting tourism. But I can’t see how she could possibly ensure that only positive images of her family ended up in the viewers’ living rooms.
Yes, the moment she was forced to rebut this rumor by releasing irrefutable proof of its falsity by revealing her daughter’s unwed pregnancy, they conceded the point.
No, that’s an even more ridiculous attack.
No, it’s an attack. And there are only two reasons it fizzled as quickly as it did: one was that to the surprise of the attackers, Palin could produce quick and irrefutable proof that their difficult-to-refute charge was baseless.
The second was that to the delight of the Left, Palin quickly began generating legitimate reasons for them to bash her, obviating the need to make stuff up.
Is she promoting Alaskan tourism by touting the fact that she’s not there any more, or just that she and Todd are no longer the First Dudette and Dude?
As usual, utterly worthless and entirely fact-free speculation on your part. In other words, as is typical for you, you imagine a fantasy scenario that exists entirely in your own mind and attempt to present it as factual data. Sorry, no sale.
Man, this is sad – the reality of the situation is falling against you every step of the way, so hey, let’s play the “what if” game!
Bah…beaten to it by El_Kabong…
Is questioning a story which doesn’t make much sense an “attack”? Are you implying that journalists (and the public, by extension) should just accept everything politicos say as unvarnished truth in order to avoid hurt feelings?
