Paris goes free! WTF?!

Solitary is actually considered punishment in most cases.

You have to be confined to a very small cell, 23 hours out of every 24, and only get out one hour in a small private enclosure (at least that is how it is done in many areas.) You have virtually no human contact and very little to do during the day.

While being in general population could be a living hell for a lot of people, for many prisoners it’s many orders of magnitude better than being locked in a cell 23 hours a day and getting 1 hour of supervised rec time by yourself.

And your point?

FWIW, the BAC was lowered. I’m not so sure it was arbitrary either, but I don’t have time to do the research on the number of alcohol related accidents/injuries/deaths of the 1.0 vs. .08 variety.

1.0? Wouldn’t that be pure alcohol?

:smack: I must be drinking.

Anyway, hopefully you knew what I meant to say.

A tether? Are you serious? I never heard of such a thing. I thought it was a radio anklet (undoubtedly made by Tiffany’s  ) that monitored her whereabouts so that she would not be able to leave the immediate vicinity of her house.

Anyways, Paris is free! More cooter flashing all around!!

My point is: before we get too outraged about this, I will point out that what she did originally wasn’t even a crime before 1990. The BAC limit used to be .10, and was rather arbitrarily raised.

I am baffled by the intensity of the hatred this silly twit garners from people. I don’t care anything about her life or trevails. I’m neither a fan nor a hater. I can see that she’s spoiled and privileged and not very bright. I know that she’s famous for being famous. I get all that. I just don’t get why she generates so much over the top hatred. Like the comments on that IMDB board. Paris getting out of jail is worse than 9/11? Really? She deserves to be beaten to death? What?

Is she really that evil? She’s ditzy and pampered but does that make her equivalent to a serial killer?

Hell, we elected a male version of Paris Hilton to the Presidency (complete with DUIs). It’s not that I LIKE her, so much that I can’t generate enough interest in her to feel anything at all. A rich bitch got out of jail early. What else is new? Aren’t there more significant things to spend emotional energy on?

Lowered.

A girl can’t get pregnant from swallowing.

My pet theory (which I am in no way qualified to make and/or defend) is that it’s simply human nature to have the need to feel that one is better than at leastsomebody. Paris is an easy target to feel superior to; but then look at her easy life and all her money! That bitch!

I think people have mixed feelings which all too easily boil down to irrational hatred.

As for me, I’m glad the world has Paris, Brittany, and Lindsey.

Do you think that 16 years was not long enough to expect her to have heard about that? There are lots of things that didn’t use to be illegal. So what?

Huh, I thought for sure she was a spitter.

Um, no - I’m pretty sure I didn’t say that. To clarify, I think she deserved everything that happened to her. I just think that those who believe this is some sort of grave injustice, and that she is somehow public enemy number one, are exaggerating a little.

I think my point was clear (despite my typos). BTW, it’s “used to be”, not “use to be”.

Irish - as for research, the DMV reports that the lowering of the limit to .08 had no effect on automobile accidents. What did have an effect was the suspending the licenses of drunk drivers. What’s amazing is that even though the DMV itself admits that the .08 law had no effect, it remains in effect. In fact, they disingenously try to imply that the .08 law is responsible for the reduction in accidents. You have to read the whole article to discover that it in fact is not.

Maybe Phil Spector can crash at her place for a while.

Well if she is confined to her room for a few weeks, it will give her time to make some more porn.

I’m not so sure you can say “no effect.”

Also note while she benefited from the solitary confinement, its really done to protect the jail. If she’s in with everyone else and gets beaten, raped, stabbed with a knife (sorry, shiv) etc., believe me, the city- or county, whichever it is- would be paying her millions.

Um, don’t you think that maybe you are being whoosed just a little here? People get a kick out of saying all sorts of things on the interwebz.

FACT: It was Paris Hilton, not Dr. Evil’s father, who invented the question mark.

Of course I didn’t take it literally, I was just bemused that she could stir people to that level of hyperbole.
