Pass The Turkey, Eh? A (Canadian)Thanksgiving MMP

I vote for this.

My former riding coach has a dog that was basset hound and English sheep dog. It was the ugliest dog I have ever seen. A total love bug, but really strange looking.

:rage: Our medical system sucks.

We did our final walkthrough on the new house yesterday. We sign all the papers today. I took lots of pictures, and I want to post some. Flickr says that iOS file types are not accepted, so I have to download an app to auto-update the file types, or find another photo hosting service. I’ll get to it - maybe this weekend.

I’m starting to panic about the move, but I hate moving. (Yes, I seem to move a lot anyway.)

Happy Friday and big hugs to all!

nellie, what a wonderful way to handle tardiness!

Taters, I hope you feel better soon. I’m glad your throat is easing up, but I’m sorry about your ears.

JtC, how kind of you and your husband. Ya’ll are good people.

Today is bright and beautiful. Overlymom feels amazing, apparently, which is delightful. Sadly, overlygirl does indeed have scoliosis - on the verge of moderate. Funnily enough, her brother was the one that caught it. They were “play fighting” one day in the kitchen and he made a comment about one shoulder being slightly higher than the other (she was making fun of his now-fused back and more limited range of motion), so we said, “Wait, let’s look.” And, sure as shit, he was right. One of her hips was higher than the other, too.

Damn kids. Always growing and yanking their spines out of whack. She was really upset for about a half hour, then I took her to Starbucks, which is apparently magical for teenaged girls.

Morning all. Slept in past 8am again and then with one thing or another, just getting around to posting. Swimmin’ and sauna will begin in about 90 minutes or so and coaching the 9-year olds tonight, with games to be coached and refereed tomorrow. Weather is clear, in the 70’s today and 80’s tomorrow.

Sunny, glad the house buying is almost complete; may the Demon Murphy never darken your door.

FCM, don’t get Social Security, just the USG pension, so no idea why the increase–maybe someone punched the numbers in wrong?

nellie, your dreams are nearly as odd as FCM’s; take care now…

flyboy, glad that the Abbey-cat is doing better, even if they are making a mess.

{{Cookie}}. I have escaped (to date) the ‘joys’ of Arthurs-Itis, but know enough that it can be most unpleasant. Hope the Doc can prescribe a treatment that’s not to drastic.

You and Husband-unit feel better soon, Taters.

FCM, glad too much family drama has been averted. Enjoy wood-piling.

boo fae, glad PC seems to be history (for now). Still wondering what her game was.

Sari, glad the leak seems to be stopped.

OK, BLT’s are assimilating and I have an e-mail or two to get out, so everyone have a good afternoon/evening (depending on your locale).

If things don’t improve over the weekend, I’ll call my doc and see if we can get some pictures and some sort of treatment. It’s making me feel really old.

Just shut down the laptop for the week. It got some extra activity, as we finally got the project money and now there’s planning to be done.

Got a bit of rain, which is nice, and it should be done before morning, which is even better.

Drinking STR Kilchoman, befitting a rainy evening.

Read everything, but retained little. I’m sure somebody needs a hug or two. :people_hugging: :people_hugging: :people_hugging: :people_hugging:

Whaa? So it’s Not Out Sunny means it’s sunny? I’m still puzzled. Oh well.

So, continuing per usual. Minor tasks today, laundry n stuff is done. Trip to relatives got cancelled (by them) so I’m home until next week’s camping trip.

Daughter had the final plaque upgrade shot, and is sick as a dog. Hopefully not for long though.

Son called last night and his company kept routing him on, and on, and on. Until he (literally) circled the globe and arrived back home last night. This is the second time re-routing has caused him to circumnavigate the globe. Not only did he go all the way around, he spent time in both hemispheres (North and South). I commented that his passport book must be filled, and he told me that most countries have gone digital and he no longer gets real stamps in a book. For some reason this makes me sad.

The kitten they adopted from the parking lot in New York (several MMPs ago) is doing fine. Vet isn’t sure what’s up with his (kitten’s) misshapen skull, but sadly he appears to be blind in the smaller eye. No worries though, he’s pouncing and playing with his housemates (other cats) and seems happy and healthy. So it’s all good.

I’m with you - it’s even worse when it’s not you moving! We found more of MIL’s stuff in our garage and we need to take it next time we head to Lex Park.

Yeah, the weather is sunny but it’s Not Our Sunny. Just as when you write out a recipe that includes spuds, it’s Not Our Taters, or N.O.T. There really is logic to this madness, and once you understand it all, you’re beyond hope. Or instead of understanding, you can just accept that we’re, um, unique? Yeah, that’s the word…

Home from the apartment. OMG, was the dining room rug filthy!! The dirty water it sucked up looked almost like black coffee! Even when I went over it with clear water, it was coming up dirty. But it’s better than it was. I’ll do it again in the spring (if they’re still alive… and I’m not joking here.)

We had soup and salad at Olive Garden, then went by the marina to settle our $1.47 debt and check on the boat - it’s still floating!! Now we’re home and I’ve got a list of things to do. The beef I put in the slow cooker is falling apart, so I’ll build the veggie-beef-barley soup this afternoon. I pulled out some butter to soften so I can make oatmeal cookies. And I need to deal with some banking stuff. So fun ahead.

Guess I need to get at that banking stuff then.

I’m hanging on hold with social security right now because I want to double-check my assumptions of when I can start claiming benefits.

I was born October 1, 1956, so by my calculations I reach full retirement age on February 1, 2023 (66 years and four months). SS’s website says that people born on the first of the month can start claiming benefits the month before full retirement age.

I’m about to start the online process filing for benefits, and plan to tell them to start the payments in January 2023, but I want to make sure I have all my facts straight before I get locked in.

A lot of people must be calling in to SS to ask about that cost of living increase. There was a long recorded message discussing it before I was even shunted off to the hold queue.

Reasonable heave. Although the bag Blueberry has apparently become the under study to A, as A tries to take Flip the Slacker King’s title of Hub’s(N.O.H.) laziest employee.

We clarify so no one thinks we’re cannibals. Although sometimes swampy is a Lector at church.

I’ve seen a Basset/Lab mix. A Bassetdor Retriever looks just like a Black Lab, except with 6 inch ears, and 3 inch legs.

Freakin’ emo kids, and their all black wardrobe. :stuck_out_tongue:

Have read most, but am short on time. Slept very late, then spent over an hour ferrying around a co-worker who doesn’t have a car but was looking for a specific item.
Have about an hour before my Long Shift, so to pad my empty tummy with filling food, I treated myself to a French dip on the way home.
I gotta remember to stop by there more often; it’s a small local joint and this sandwich is freaking delicious.

I just checked, and I haven’t gotten anything extra for the last 3 months.

JtC, I agree with Hubs, I don’t want anybody to know when I do a good thing either. Besides, I might get put on ‘a list’ and never hear the end of it.

Cookie, knee pillows are a good thing. Wifey and I have slept with them since before she got her first store-bought knee.

Daughter Unit is here with her mini-aussie puppy, Archie. Archie has been going to doggie daycare and has learned that when the senior dog growls at you, he doesn’t want to play, so things have been a lot more relaxed this visit.

Y’all have a great weekend.

I called the pharmacy (12 miles away) yesterday to see about plague and flu vaccinations. They said their appointments are booked out for a week. I asked if I could just walk in, and they said I could; only there would be a long wait. I went to the pharmacy and got there at 08:15, fifteen minutes before they opened. I sat in the car reading The Ultimate Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy, and went in as soon as they opened. The pharmacist told me I needed an appointment. I told him I was told I could walk in. He warned me there would be a long wait… and that they don’t give vaccinations until 10:00. So I came home and had a cold chicken leg for breakfast. I tried calling my PCP, about a mile away, on Wifey, RN’s suggestion. I tried a few times. Couldn’t get through, so I just went there. They don’t have the COVID vaccine; so it was back to Ferndale, where I was the only customer in the pharmacy. Finished filling the form before anyone else came in, and settled in to read my book. People with appointments started coming in. An elderly couple were called before me, but I got in right after them. The pharmacist said a couple of people missed their appointments. So now I’ve been vaxed; fifth dose of the COVID (the new Omnitron – because I’ve always wanted to say it that way – version), and the latest version of the flu vaccine.

I got the sisal out of the back room, and coated the ends with Gorilla wood glue to help keep them from fraying. When it’s try, I can replace the carpet on the cat tree with rope.

The Trader Joe’s Korean-style short ribs are thawed. I bought a head of cabbage, cooking sherry (because nobody has drinking sherry), and some Korean BBQ sauce because nobody ever puts enough on pre-packaged meats. I have sesame oil, canola oil, garlic, and rice vinegar. I’m using regular cabbage instead of Napa cabbage. I think it will be OK. I do need to go down to the corner for an onion.

Happy Friday!

I am tired, This getting up at 3-330 am to fetch my son needs to stop, hopefully soon.

Not a bad morning at the park, although it was very foggy when I got there. I was the last one there since I went back to bed this morning and slept in a bit. It was quiet though, and Echo played quite a bit more than usual. Shy little Ginger isn’t so shy anymore.

My son is upset, and I’m kind of … not prepared.
If y’all remember I was supposed to take Cerby, NIece2’s dog that was living at my mother’s house. He was out of control. Before I could get him, Niece1 took him.
It’s not going well for them; he is just too much dog for them. Niece2’s husband irks long hours, and Niece2 is always at my mother’s house helping to clean it out. I know they took him to the vet and he was put on Prozac?, I think.
I think if he is with us and goes to the park every morning, he will burn up a lot of energy and will be better socialized and a better dog. All of them know that when they do stuff with him, especially taking him out and about, he is a better dog. He was also always better after I took my two down for a visit and he had somebody to play with.
There are some good playful dogs at the park now.
Why in the HELL, my sister thought that an Australian Shepherd was a good fit for Niece2 family? I have no idea. I would have suggested a Bichon or a Welsh terrier. Something medium sized with good energy, not something so frenetic.
My son is not too keen on the idea of a third dog. I am happy to take him except we are not prepared. There is still a low spot in the fence he could jump, and the house is still a bit of a mess.
They want me to take him Sunday when I go down to get other stuff.
I need to put my dogs in daycare Moonday so we can go to the MVA. I won’t be able to put him in that quickly I don’t think, and I don’t know about leaving him home alone just after getting him. He is crate trained, so that might work. Somebody will have to go outside to guard the low part of the fence. Niece1’s husband says he can come out and fix it one weekend.
I’m still using the walker, I’ll have to switch to the cane or trekking sticks, I guess. The walker takes up too much room in the back seat.
Well, I have today and tomorrow to figure it out.

Ah well, my life is already in shambles, what’s one more thing to deal with?
Life would be a lot easier if either I or my son could quit irk. Irk really gets in the way.

Most impressive dog I ever saw was a Chow/Rottie. Put a Chow head on a Rottie body and give it a dark red shiny coat. The dog looked regal, and scary.

This is going to be a busy weekend, I guess.
Tomorrow is grocery shopping and cleaning the house.
Sunday is to the armpit, and that is the day I am going to use the heavy duty drain cleaner since the directions say not to use water for a while.
Moonday is to the MVA, and I want to do a bunch of cooking so I have heat and eat meals in the fridge. We have been eating way too much junk food.
Somewhere in that mess, I need to finish my taxes.

Big pot o’soup is done. I need to let it cool then divide it into zip bags. I also cleaned a carton of strawberries - hope they’re at least halfway decent for eating. I tried to set up SS accounts on line for the in-laws, but I don’t know the information exactly, so that ain’t gonna happen. FCD will have to take them to SS to change their address. Pain in the patooot.

And I was trying to set up BIL’s online banking, but it requires a code to be texted to his phone - dunno if he knows how to deal with a text. So next time we go there, I’ll try to work that out. His computer/tablet abilities are limited and it’s just easier to do it myself.

Now that the soup is done, I’m going to throw together some oatmeal-raisin cookies. At least I’ll mix them up. Not sure if I’ll bake them today or not. Depends on how long my energy lasts. I’m about beat.

Hard to believe the in-laws have just been here a week. It feels like months already…

I just got back from getting the second booster, so that’s 4 shots now. J+ 45 minutes and I’m fine. That really is the least painful needle ever.

FCM I was already contemplating beef stew this weekend, and your talk of beef-barley soup has convinced. Hmmm, dunno if’n I got’s any barley…farro and quinoa I got’s…one of those would work, right?

@JaneDoe42
@purplehorseshoe

We went to a quilt show today. This was the show stopper for me:

I am calling your attention to it as counted cross stitch artists because the artist’s card says:

The squares on the dress are about half an inch each. It must have taken forever.

Holy frick, that’s a gorgeous quilt! I’m agog. I wonder when it was started.

Sari, this Sunday sounds awfully fast. Why not set it up for right after Niece1’s husband fixes the fence? It would be a good motivator for him to get it done pronto and give you and your son some time to prepare. “One weekend” sounds awfully vague to me, and once he and Niece1 are relieved of the pupper, they won’t be in such a hurry.

Dunno - I’ve never cooked with either. Rice would work, too. Or even noodles, I suppose.

I have 2 trays of oatmeal bar cookies in the oven - I didn’t feel like messing with individual cookies, so I put parchment on a couple of lipped pans, spread the cookie dough, and now they’re baking. I just need to check on them so they don’t burn. Once they cool, I’ll cut 'em up and take them to FIL et al.

The soup was taking forever to cool - big pot, so lots of thermal energy - so it’s in the fridge now. I’ll bag it later or tomorrow. Whatever.

Not sure what we’ll have for supper, since we did soup and salad for lunch. Maybe grilled cheese sammiches? Or a bowl of cereal? I’m kinda cooked out.

MIL and BIL ventured out in search of WalMart. Except they turned right instead of left and wound up in the booniest part of the boonies of this county. Never did make it to WalMart. But they did find their way home after a couple of hours. MIL wants a map - but she’s blind!! We just need to take BIL out driving so he can see where he needs to go. WalMart is easy for them to find - go out their road to the second light. Turn left. WalMart is on the left about 3 miles down the road.

Always something…

Holy cow, that is amazing!

While the “list” is probably a thing to consider, Hubs worries that nobody will take him seriously as a Grumpy Old Man if people know better. He’s worked hard for his street cred fer crying out loud!

I am SO happy wifey woke up to cat puke on the floor. I’ve heard terrible tales of cats swallowing string and such, a little cat puke is one of the happier endings possible for that sort of story.

I wrapped a scratching post with Sissle Rope once and have some advice. Spread a LOT of glue on the post before wrapping. I used Elmers and it has held for over 10 years. Also, wear gloves. That stuff will tear up your hands. (And do it outside, it’s messy to work with.)

I made an appointment for my jabs, but got my running around done early so showed up well before time and they were still able to do it. I think they just needed to know how much vax to prepare for the day.

I agree with this. You need a good fence to before bringing home a new dog who could escape and get lost or hit by a car.

Last night I was rudely awakened by GG wailing. When I went out to see what was wrong, VBC was curled up on my new chair and GG just didn’t know what to do cause he wanted his sissy but he didn’t want to get too close to the possible kitty eating chair.

This morning they were both curled up together on the chair so I think he’s over his trauma.

Afternoon all. Swimming and sauna are complete, soccer coaching starts in about an hour and then my weekly menu says I can eat out, so maybe Mickey D’s (first I’ll see if the new WhataBurger is open yet). Beautiful day, 75F and N.O.S. (Not Our Sunny).

FCM, well, at least they got to see a little more of their new homestead…would a Garmin help at all our is that to much tech?

hippie, not a quilter, but that’s am impressive piece of work.

Sari, I agree with nellie, have him fix the fence before you commit to a third dog.

flyboy, I always try to be 10-15 minutes early to my appointments, always have something to read and sometimes the previous appointment hasn;t shown so I get in early. Glad you’ve had your shots.

shoe, hang in there for the Long Shift.

yankers, I was supposed to do that once, but they changed the booking at the last minute and flew me back the same way I went. And glad news about the kitten.

OK, need to dress for going out among the 9-year old set. All y’all take care.
