This made me start, too. I thought he/she was talking about Robertson’s position, not his/her own. I certainly hope that’s the case.
“Should”? That implies that such a smilie was necessary. So, let’s just say “could”. Yes, there could have been such a smilie. You think someone who later posted “Now fine, if Robertson wants to make a dick of himself by saying dumbass things, that’s just dandy” maybe wasn’t entirely serious about supporting his views?
It’s not a matter of balls, it’s a matter of being fair. What you said wasn’t so clearly disingenuous that I was prepared to say so without qualification. You might have said what you said through inadequate thought, or you might have said it as a deliberate rhetorical ploy.
