Peach Iced Tea and Job Huntin’… The MMP

oh, I forgot to say earlier this week
 Let’s Go, Mets!

Wait, wait wait. I’m doing the MMP? What?

Oooo, I’m so drunk. Do I have to confess this?

Well, here was the official vote. They’re talking about you here, right? Or do I have the wrong person? If so, apologies. If not, looking forward to it.

Welcome aboard and welcome back, LiLi!

You do realize you’ve been volunteered for Monday, right? (I’m editing because I see you do!) Posting late Sunday night is acceptable as well. You can tell what you’ve been up to these last 40+ days. Have you taken classes? How’s work? What did you do instead of surfing and posting?

I got back from our Easter Vigil at 11:59. It lasted almost 3 hours, but flew right by. There’s always lots of music, but we got an extra dose in this time as the main celebrant sang most of the canon, which is usually read.

I’ve now put together the sweet N.O.T. casserole (except for the pecan topping) and am actually kind of sleepy (a miracle, since church was pretty raucous, especially at the end).

What did your book club read, Heff? I’ve been to our library’s book club a couple of times when they’ve read books that I was interested in. But since I’m part of a book club already, I don’t usually have time/feel the need.

SCL, maybe you could suggest pre-marriage counseling? I have friends who got married a bit over a year ago. Their pastor wouldn’t marry them until they’d completed 3 sessions with a marriage counselor.

Hi everybody (and a Go Tigers back atcha, rosie - I’m too tired to color).

GT

Pies are done and cooling, I’m showered and shaved and ready for tomorrow’s Easter Feaster. Turkey! I loves me some roast turkey. I loves me some cold roast turkey sammiches the next day, too. And pie.

This time, the punkin is frozen Farmer’s Market, but the StrawBarb is from scratch. (Well, mostly. I couldn’t be arsed to make pie dough, so I bought frozen Tenderflake deep dish pie crusts. They’re pretty good!) Making pies isn’t really all that hard, though it depends on the filling. Pumpkin pie can be pretty involved (hence frozen this time – if I can’t be arsed to make crust you can bet punkin pie filling is right out of the question) but StrawBarb is pretty easy. You takes yer rhubarb and cuts it up into small pieces. You takes your strawberries and cuts 'em in halves or quarters. You dump 'em in the bottom crust and douse them with a bunch of sugar and some flour or corn starch (to sweeten and thicken the juices up that the sugar will leech out of them). You takes your top crust, poke some holes with a fork, cut out a circle in the center (or make pretty patterns if you like, even using the cut-out dough bits to make further patterns on top of the crust). You places your top crust over the filling, pinch the top and bottom crusts together good 'n firm, flute the edges between thumb and forefinger or press them with the tines of a fork. Then, if you likes, you can takes some egg white and a basting brush and gives the top an egg wash. (This can give it a bit of a shiny, smooth coating when it’s done) Then you bakes it up nice at 400°F for about an hour or until the top is all golden brown. Then you takes it out and lets it cool.

Apple can be tricky. Don’t use Granny Smith. Too dry, not enough juice. Spy apples work the best here. They give a nice juicy consistency.

Badda bing, badda bang, badda pie!

Oh, for dough, I tend to use Crisco. I’ve tried using butter, and while it comes out really nice and rich, it tends to be a bit heavy and lifeless. Crisco makes it nice 'n flaky.

If Catholics confessed every time they got drunk, the confessionals would never be empty. :stuck_out_tongue:

I might try the omlette, tarragon, since I’m a lazy ass and it sounds the most convenient. It also sounds yummy.

Back to thesis work. Gah.

Urgh. My house is being visited by a real skunk, apparently right outside my window. Bleargh. Where’s the barf smilie when you need it? So I have insomnia and a migraine, and the whole house smells like skunk. And Skunk, because he just farted again. Envy me.

HAPPY EASTER!!!

I’m up and caffienatin’. Soon I’m gonna purty up and hie myself to the Episcopal version of the Easter Vigil. It can also be done on Saturday but we do the shorter waaaaaay early Sunday version. Shorter meaning two hours.

Hope everybody has a great day!

Wow. It’s 4am and I’m still up. I haven’t pulled an all-nighter like this since undergrad.

Happy Easter everyone! :: yawn :: Methinks me should get at least some sleep before attacking the the thesis monster again.

Morning, LiLi - how’s your head today?

Congrats on becoming a Catholic and getting through the whole of Lent without caving in!

SCL - your friend needs a good, sharp slap. She’s only been divorced since October and she thinks marrying a 22-year-old with kids is a good idea? Have you asked her which part of Planet Stupid she’s living on?

It’s a gorgeous day here, bright and sunny with a cloudless sky. I think it’s going to be about 17 UK degrees today so it would be good to be outside for a while. I’ve already been busy clearing out the freezer 'cos it needs defrosting so that’s started off now. I think I might go outside and practice juggling or maybe poi for a change, haven’t done any of that for a while. Then tonight when it’s dark, I think it might be time to get the fire poi out again. Well, it’s nearly music festival season and poi seem to fit so well with tents and music.

Maybe I’ll just have another cup of tea first though…

Happy Easter everybody! I am up and caffinenating before church. Today is watch hockey on TV day.

I’ll join the early Happy Easter chorus. I’d still be cuddled under the covers but a certain feline seemed to think that I needed to get up and feed her. So all the critters have been tended to, my toofies are brushed, and I’m caffeinatin’. I need to iron a couple of garments that we plan to wear to my sister’s and I’ve got to “make” the peas-n-carrots. I didn’t have any peas, but I had 2 bags of peas-n-carrots, so that’ll work.

**FCD ** is a little miffed - he wants to work on the bathroom. It’s not that he dislikes my side of the family. It’s just that he wants to finish the bathroom, dammit! So I’m the bad guy when I tell him that yes, he needs to come with me. Frankly, his back needs the day off anyway.

Just a few remnants of snow outside, and it’s a bright, clear morning, but sub-freezing. I wonder how many outdoor sunrise services were moved indoors? Reminds me of one sunrise service my daughter and I attended just before I moved here and she went to college. There were several different preachers/pastors from a variety of churches. Also, this was in the early months of the mess in Iraq. One of the “good Christian” men on the dias felt compelled to take a cheap shot at Muslims. I expect if it wasn’t an ecumenical service, he’d have blasted the Pope, too. No, no, nope, not gonna get pit-ish here. <deep cleansing breaths>

So, it’s morning, it’s cold, it’s Easter, and I don’t have any chocolate bunny ears to chomp on. Stoopit Easter Bunny - just 'cause there are no kiddies living here, that’s no reason to shun us! :stuck_out_tongue:

Are you secretly one of the Kennedy Clan?

UnemployedMarshCritter, did you send the thank you notes to your interviewers yet? :dubious:

Happy Easter

(I’ma try this to see how it works … iffn you see an ETA at the bottom of this post, you’ll know I messed up! LOL)

I’m up and caffeinating too. No chocolate bunnies to eat here either (my youngest is 19), but I do have a package of Bunny Peeps. I may also pick up a bunny when stuff goes on sale tomorrow.

There are sunrise services going on here - outdoors! Folks are bundled up at the Lincoln Memorial. They never considered moving it indoors. Maybe if it was in a warmer clime I’d go … maybe. My Dad is probably taking a service this morning, so I’ll call him later today.

Again, happy Easter to all who celebrate.

In honor of the season, I have lit the Christmas tree.

Happy Easter, everyone! (So, do you switch to Easter egg decorations for the season, doggio?)

Almost forgot: hee hee, BooFae. I think you need to have a little conversation with SCL’s friend.

I’m up, caffeinating, have removed laundry from the dryer and moved the last load into it. Also, I’ve had some toasted babka (if you’re Ukrainian, it’s paska), which I bought at Wild Oats the other day, and a soft- (well, almost hard-) boiled egg. I’m also trying to get inspired to make sure I have everything ready to go to the little brother’s. Also, I need to get some work done.

So I should do that…right?

GT

Morning! Happy Easter! Up, but not yet caffeinating. Got a bit before we head out for the Easter Feaster, so I’ve got to head over to Timmy’s for a coffee before anything else (except posting here, of course). I just have to get the bleary out of my eyes before I do so.

Oow. Don’t type so loud.

We’re about to go off to brunch with our sponsors and pretend that I’m not hungover. Ooo, that was an excellent party. All of yesterday was excellent.

QD wore the ring on Thursday.

And I’ll do the MMP, sure. Volunteerism, hmph.

you should hang egg shaped lights on it.
So how come no one wished me (and my fellow decendants of Abraham, Isaac, & Jacob) a happy Passover earlier this week, Hmmmm? :dubious:
