Peanut Hottie (this is a G-rated thread)

I came across this at Wal-Mart yesterday in the coffee/cocoa/tea section: Peanut Hottie, a peanut-butter based hot drink. It also comes in peanut-butter-chocolate flavor.

Now, I love me some Reese’s peanut butter cups, and I love Nutella or a chocolate-y spread on toast with peanut butter, but a drink? Even a cold peanut butter/chocolate milk shake sounds pretty good. But a hot drink?

However…upon reflection… if it’s a powder, I can think of some great uses for it, like rolling homemade truffles in the powder, or mixing the powder with vanilla ice cream. Or just sprinkling it on toast like you would cinnamon & sugar. Or maybe rolling banana pieces in it…

Okay, not such a bad idea.

Has anyone tried it? Anyone willing to try it?

PB2, powdered peanut butter, has been pretty popular amongst moms lately. At least in my area. “Give your kids all the nutrition of peanut butter without the fat!” is what they say. Also easier to use in smoothies, I guess.

I have had peanut butter ice cream milkshakes. But I couldn’t imagine drinking it warm! The PB2 site doesn’t mention anything about making a drink (other than adding it to a smoothie). I wonder if the Peanut Hottie people are just looking for a different angle?!

It is surprisingly good cold too!

^Yum, you wouldn’t think it would be good but it is.

I’ve had peanut butter soup and enjoyed it. So yeah, why not a hot drink?

All I know is, when I hear “Peanut Hottie,” I picture Mr. Peanut in a tube-top and hot pants.

It’s not a fun image.

I went back to buy the Peanut Hottie, but while I was at the store I saw the PB2 product referred to by ZipperJJ.

I compared the ingredients in PB2:
“Roasted peanuts, cocoa powder, sugar, salt”

with the ingredients in Peanut Hottie:
"Sugar, Whitener (Glucose Syrup, Refined Coconut Oil, Stabilisers (Dipotassium Phosphate, Sodium Polyphosphate), Milk Protein, Emulsifier (Mono- and Diglycerides of Fatty Acids), Anti-Caking Agent (Silicone Dioxide)), Maltodextrin, Flavouring, Defatted Peanut Flour (3%), Fat Reduced Cocoa Powder (Soy Lecithin, Citric Acid), Caramelised Sugar Preparation, Salt, Thickeners (Guar Gum, Xanthan Gum) "

I bought the PB2. So far I have dipped celery sticks into the powder–pretty good if you’re someone who spreads peanut butter on celery (I am). I also sprinkled some on chocolate ice cream and then smooshed it in as I ate it. Not bad.

Oh my god, now I’m picturing Peppermint Patty in a tube top and hot pants. Wanna trade? Please?

Oh good. I was looking for the ingredient lists online but couldn’t find them.

Looks like the Peanut Hottie would be tastier. Ingredients, yum!

That is exactly what I thought this thread was about. No lie.

FYI unsweetened peanut butter makes an excellent sauce base for savory meat dishes, try it with chicken it is excellent! The tastes merge great, if you’ve ever had chicken satay you know what I mean.

I like making it without the hard to find Thai spices, tastes almost as good.

I have long wondered why there aren’t more meat+peanut dishes since the flavors merge so good, as far as I know only Thai and African and Chinese feature this combo.

I do love peanut sauce with various things, even on cold noodles.
