Pi(e) Day!

I’m afraid we are, old chap. Like you, to me a pie has a lid and a savoury filling. Sure, you can get apple pies, but you’d best be remember the “apple” part of that descriptor to differentiate it from an Actual Pie With Meat In It.

There is no universe in which I would ever consider “pizza” to be “pie”, either.

It still bothers me that the mince pies Brits have at Christmas are tiny and full of fruit.

I still remember being offered one as a kid and thinking “Yum! I love pies!” and then biting into it and thinking “What the???”

I find helps to think of them as containing Christmas Mince - ie mashed up fruit, instead of proper mince. Still doesn’t stop it bothering me slightly.

Perhaps we should form a meat pie-based version of CAMRA?

Undiluted with lesser vegetation such as strawberries and with just the right amount of sugar, rhubarb pie is definitely the best pie. Gooseberry pie might come in second. For ingredients available in March, Hoosier sugar cream pie is excellent.

I used to love it when I was a kid. Haven’t had any since I was a kid. All I can find is strawberry-rhubarb.
