Pirates of the Caribbean..the Movie.

Mmm…swashbuckling, Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Geoffrey Rush. I don’t care if the movie’s based on a Bazooka Joe cartoon, there’s no way I’m missing it. My husband has promised to come along and wipe the drool off my chin.

<o/T>
They took out Mr.Toad’s Wild Ride in Orlando to put in the new WTP ride (which I have not ridden but am assuming it sucks) and also replaced the wonderfully inventive puppetry of the Legend of the Lion King with something involving MIckey and a symphony.Ugh.
Whose idea was that?Idjets.</OT>

Part of the appeal of Disney’s theme park attractions has always been their storylines. As a ride, “The Pirates of the Caribbean” already has a workable plot. So why fashion a new one with this movie?

The Haunted Mansion, though, doesn’t have (much) of a plot, so maybe a movie could help (although as described above, it doesn’t sound likely).

Given the importance of story, I’m always amazed that Disney spent so much money on “Splash Mountain.” After all, it’s based on a movie that almost nobody has seen and that Disney refuses to rerelease.

[hijack]Manatee–while that may be true, the Uncle Remus stories from which the tale of Bre’r Rabbit and Bre’r Fox are taken is part of common American literature and almost everyone knows the story of Bre’r Rabbit and the Tar Baby. Plus…who doesn’t know the tune (at the very least)to Zip A Dee Doo Dah? I love SM,tbh, because it’s a cute ride that leaves you singing merrily the rest of the day.[/hijack]

Can’t wait to see what they do with Space Mountain.

I own Song of the South, and I haven’t yet had coffee, so bear with me… Splash Mountain is based on it?

What about The Pirate Movie way back in 1982? Surely that was a hit?

Right?

I mean, I even bought the unopened, vinyl soundtrack off of E-Bay not too many moons ago.

Please?

The Pirate Movie! You beat me to it, one of my faves as a youngster, I swooned endlessly over Kristy McNichol. If I recall, the movie was the first to really parody the Star Wars films, with a very silly lightsaber scene

Actually, it has a bit -too- much of a plot. Go to www.hauntedmansion.com and look around. I just can’t see their proposed cast / idea making a good movie, though.

The Phantom Manor at Disneyland Paris has a bit more plot than the US counterparts. The house is where a wedding was supposed to take place but the groom never showed. I wonder what it is like at Disney Tokoyo?

ORLANDO BLOOM!!! OH MY GOSH!!! AAAAAHHHHH! drool, faint
(I think that’s enough reason for me to go see it… )

IIRC, the Haunted Mansion at Anaheim Disneyland mentions the wedding as part of the Doom Buggy spiel.

I am scared to death over what’s going to happen with Space Mountain. It’s been my favorite ride ever since it opened. I wish I’d ridden it one last time…

It’s been a long time since I’ve been to Anaheim. Disney World doesn’t have a thing on it.

Paris, of course had the creepy bride but also in the grand room, where at Disneyland/World there is a birthday party, the missing groom story is played out a little more there.

When I was a kid, there was a book all about the Haunted Mansion, and it came with a 45 rpm record with the story on one side and spooky sounds on the other. We used it as the soundtrack for all our haunted houses (well, haunted hallways, but hey, we were kids).

Absitively, posolutely. I take it you haven’t been to D-land lately?

Yes, the ride is themed with Brer Rabbit, Brer Bear and other assorted Song of the South characters and music. Plus leftover animatronics cannibalized from the old America Sings attraction (which was itself built on top of the GE Carousel of Progress).

Naw, it’s been a long time since I was there. I think they were building SM at the time.

Zebra, you’re saying DisneyWorld doesn’t have anything on DisneyLand? What’s Land have that World doesn’t?

Yeah, but who knows what Disney did with those stories? Reading them’s one thing; seeing the Disney version is another (check out any of the fairy tales that Disney made a version of; the print versions usually differ wildly).

And as for the songs, they’re only from the movie. Without it, we’re lacking context.

That’s one of my favorite sites!

It’s important to note, though, that much of what it discusses is conceptual or fan-based; therefore, much of the “plot” on that site is before the fact or after, not present in the ride itself. I’d still maintain that even though many ideas were considered for the attraction, as it stands at Disneyland it’s by and large plotless.

While she’s definitely in the attic, she’s not mentioned in the spiel.
