I don’t agree with his extent of crazy, but if one were to believe his views, and the Right consists only of murderous thugs, then yes, it would make sense that only violence can stop murderous thugs.
It’s not like the Right hasn’t been constantly expressing their desire for the mass murder of everyone that disagrees with them.
“At this point, we’re living under corporate and medical fascism. This is tyranny. When do we get to use the guns?” the man asked, to applause from the crowd. “No, and I’m not – that’s not a joke. I’m not saying it like that. I mean, literally, where’s the line? How many elections are they going to steal before we kill these people?”
Charlie Kirk rebukes man who wants to kill Democrats. It's not enough
In case anyone has already forgotten “medical fascism” meaning asking folks to wear masks in the middle of a fucking plandemic pandemic.
Perhaps brevity is not the soul of wit.
I know where Eyeore lives, in his pitifull small house in the Hundred Acre Wood.
I don’t think you were clear at all, but maybe everyone else got it?
but his friends love him anyway, and they never try to make him be someone else or get him on meds. Same with Tigger and Piglet and Rabbit.

I made a comment right after Trump was elected.
I was reeling like a lot of us were. And my comment was a bunch of my rationalizing how we should keep our Dem. Heads down and just get thru this 4 yrs.(Not knowing exactly what was coming down on the USA).
He said I(people like me) was the problem not the solution.
I didn’t mind the comment, I’ve been told I’m a problem before.
But what did he want a person to do? Go on a killing spree or send poison letters.
Personally I’d rather help than destroy. In my small way.
His posts are sad. He’s a sad individual. Nothing positive, nothing good, everything bad and negative. Am thankful I don’t have that outlook or mindset.

Me too.
There’s a little good everyday. You just gotta find it.
I hope he really isn’t so sad and fearful.

I used to mock Der relentlessly: I apologized for that in ATMB and my apology stands. Trumpism vindicated Der’s worldview. Liberals have a small blindspot for deception and a large blindspot for malice, and Der is a corrective for that.
-
Der has unhinged posts, but also an iron will. He consistently obeys moderator instructions.
-
I predict Der won’t respond to this thread, which is smart because it would probably devolve into a pile-on. Again, iron will.
Der’s style doesn’t mesh very well in philosophical threads, and he doesn’t appear to be aware of that. Though bad faith definitely exists in the world, there also exist good faith arguments for bad positions. We’re here to fight ignorance so proper discussion shouldn’t be limited to cynical amateur sociological observations of the conservative grouping.
-
@kimstu said it best: someone needs to gift Der a big box of qualifiers.
-
(Der’s response is that he tried that once and was accused of using weasel words. But honestly only one poster liked to make such accusations and I think he’s left the board anyway. Weaseling exists, but good writers know how to strike the proper balance between clarity and accuracy.)
Agreed. When this first popped up yesterday I briefly wondered if he would post in this thread. I thought about it for a second and reached much the same conclusion. I’m sure he’s peeked in here just out of curiosity, but I don’t expect him to post. I’m sure he is very aware of his reputation on the board and what other people think of him. I don’t think he much cares if he gets pitted.
Well, of course. Those who dislike him are motivated by the desire to murder him and grind his body into food for eels, while those who support him are also motivated by the same desire but just don’t say it out loud. ![]()
I kinda agree with this. But also, motives do matter, and der trihs isn’t wrong about them, he just extrapolates the motives of some to all. And there absolutely are some prolifers who are basically motivated by wanting to keep women in their place (which is being available for sex, but only to the man who owns her, and having babies.)
I’m surprised he got pitted for this post, which seemed less remarkable than a lot of what he posts.
Anyway, i tend to assume the best of people. I tend to assume good motives (or simple selfishness) and lapses of judgement. Der Trihs reminds me that there really are evil people out there.
In 1944, a NORC poll found that 13% of the American public was in favor exterminating all Japanese. Every man, woman, and child - life unworthy of life.
Der_Trihs reminds us that this general frame of mind didn’t just magically disappear across the decades. Sure, some things have changed, but not nearly as much as most of us hoped they had.
I think he’s an extremist, and I find his consistent “awfulizing” to be tiresome.
I’m also really glad he’s here.
The best of the Dope is a collection of viewpoints, all across the spectrum of ideas, all engaging and debating the issues of our times. I applaud those who have positions, and support them, no matter how much I may disagree with them.
It makes reading the Dope so much better. There’s more to engage with, and a better chance to test your beliefs and learn new things.
So I wish there were more like him. Not because I agree with him, but because the Dope is better for having people like him here.
I agree with this.
so, Pitting FAIL
I like this post. @Moriarty
He does make you reflect and wonder about the “awfulnesses” and how you really feel.
Yes diversity of opinions and personality make for lively discourse.
Since this thread was initially started to pit Der Trihs for an extreme anti-anti-abortion view, it should be noted that are even more bizarre takes.
The authors of this paper (published in a feminist journal), while rightfully criticizing laws in a few states mandating that women requesting abortion referral be shown ultrasounds of their fetus, and giving brief lip service to medical indications for fetal ultrasounds, rapidly go galloping off the deep end.
Wut?
“Intrusion”, as in
Um…
Well…
Wow.
Well, I don’t know about this instance, but most of these laws required a transvaginal ultrasound, which is a highly invasive and unnecessary medical procedure that involves having a large wand stuck up your vaginal canal. Depending on your situation that can be either highly uncomfortable or extremely painful. If you don’t want to have that done to you, and that becomes a requirement for reproductive health care access, it’s arguably a form of violence. (It’s also very intentional on the part of legislators.)
I once had an ultrasound that involved shoving a device up my vagina. I can see that being described as a “gendered intrusion”, although i chose to do it for the benefit of my health, and the nice woman who did the test was very gentle and careful about explaining what she would do and obtaining clear consent.
The fetal ultrasound i did involved a wand against my belly. It is much less invasive. Judging by the number of ultrasound images I’ve seen on refrigerator doors, they are popular with those who are pregnant.
Laws that require a transvaginal ultrasound are likely inspired by a desire to hurt women.
I think I’ve had at least two, medically indicated. Both times they hurt like hell.
