PlayStation Move: Who will get it?

The Move will be released in North American on Friday and I’m thinking of getting it, but not right away.

Reviews so far have been positive. The controllers are supposed to be a lot more responsive and accurate to the Wii. I need good party-like games and the sports is supposed to be really fun. I’d need to get two controllers but I have a $50 gift card, so that’d bring my initial cost down to $100.

I’m going to wait a few weeks to see how everyone else likes it first.

Not me, despite the fact that I don’t have a ps3

It’s being geared as basically an upgrade to a wii. The wii is a terrible system with loads of shovel ware, I’m feeling that while there may be a couple games for the Move, it’s library will consist of loads of shovel ware as well, and games that will utilize the Move as an alternate control will simply play better without it.

The one thing I do appreciate about the Kinect over the Move is that the Kinect is being geared as a whole new way to control the basic functions of the Xbox Marketplace, such as choosing netflix titles by waving your hands, etc. Pricing it at $150 was a ludicrous mistake by MS, but they’ve never been intelligent about such things.

But yea, Move = pass for me, even with the $400 ps3/move bundle. I have a wii, and the only impetus I have to play it is the occasional great first party title, and every time they release one I pray the motion controls will be severely limited. Sony doesn’t have the first party power of Nintendo, so I really see no reason to pick the thing up, personally

I figure I will get one, eventually. Prolly not right now, though. My three year old loves my parents’ Wii, and I’m not about to buy another system. Being it’s Sony you think they’d market the shit out of it but I don’t think I’ve seen it mentioned anywhere but gaming sites and the net…

Had to look up “shovel ware…” interesting word.

Not quite yet. I’m looking to buy a PS3 when my economy picks up, but I’m going to wait until they start releasing games that use its’ potential. I’m not interested in party games and such. (The moment they release a fencing or Star Wars game that supports it, I’m there baby!)

Husband played it at a friend’s house on Saturday night and loved it. Our anniversary is in November and I am thinking of getting the system as a gift. Should I pre-order a Kinect, get the PS3 with Move or just get a basic Wii?

Look at the game lineups. The hardware itself should never be the deciding factor.

I’ve got a Move controller sitting on my desk right now. I’m not sure when I’ll wind up getting one for home.

Obligatory “They make games for PS3 now?”

Obligatory “No one”.

You gotta feel for Sony. [Ack, Am I, a Nintendo Fanboy saying this?]

First off, they are getting sloppy seconds from 4 years of the Wii. They backpedaled on what they think their hardcore audience wants. [PS3 didn’t have motion-feedback / rumble at start – said the core didn’t want that.]

Then, you got the Recession. Oh wait, that’s over with… The system is still 300 to start? Good Luck there.

Oh, and Kinect.

Yeah, my Wii and my 360 are gonna stand pat here. No stupid balls on my controller, thanks.

Seriously, If a PS3 sells out at any store, it would be news. [Not that it should be aired, mind you.] But It’s not going to make news as to the one store that has one last shipment of PS3 for the year.

I will not make a mention of Nintendo and their superior 2010 E3 game line up.

You do understand that all these systems have like 5 years worth of games built up by now, so regardless of how magical or not any given company’s E3 lineup was, if you’re just buying one of these systems for the first time, that lineup represents a nearly trivial portion of the games for the system? (Unless, I suppose, you are Nintendo, and have ONLY NOW gotten around to actually announcing new entries in many of your key franchises.)

Besides, half of what made Nintendo’s E3 lineup good was 3DS titles.

I’m not saying that the Wii may not be the best choice for some people but A) That’s a decision they make for themselves and B) Their E3 lineup really shouldn’t be a factor there at all. The E3 lineup is mostly exciting to people who already had a Wii.

Ha ha ha.

rewinds time back to, oh, 2004?

kushiel: la la la la la, I am enjoying my PS2 RPGs, la la la la la, Gamecube franchies so far aren’t enough to make me want to play them more than I already do at friend’s houses…OH MY GOD NEW REALISTIC ZELDA?!
kushiel: has purchased Gamecube and preordered Twilight Princess before it had a name

My Wii sits in occasional Raving Rabbids and Wii Fit modes while I wait.

I invite anyone who was on the fence about the Wii but has finally committed now that there’s officially a Wii Zelda to step forward and make themselves known.

I know, I know, but sometimes people will buy a console for just that one game they must have. And the Wii shovelware can surprise you sometimes. People would probably put Raving Rabbids: TV Party in the shovelware category because it looks like a lame Mario Party ripoff, but man, I love the shit out of that game.

To address the actual OP, probably the same people who bought the Wii for its motion capabilities. The Halo/Bioshock/Left 4 Dead/etc crowd won’t buy it until there’s a killer app.

unfortunately the new Zelda game looks awful. I’m sure it’ll be a lot of fun (and I’ll actually have to hook up my wii again and find some batteries for the damn remotes) but the textures look absolutely awful. It well and truly looks like a first gen gamecube game, and that’s rather unfortunate. I hope they polish up the textures (I mean seriously, the grass looks like green with some wavy black lines)

Still, the Nintendo e3 line-up wasn’t all that impressive. It was probably more impressive then sony or MS but mostly cause both Sony and MS had already revealed all their other games. As far as 2010/2011 line-ups go, though, the Wii is still lagging way, way far behind in terms of quality games. For every Zelda, Metroid, or Epic Mickey you have Fable, Halo, Kill Zone, Deus Ex, Enslaved, COD, Gran Turismo, etc etc etc and the ever present possibility of Beyond Good and Evil 2.

I have been playing Move for over a week now, and I am hugely impressed with how well the controller and the games turned out and how well the Move is supported day one. I have been playing a tonne of Sports Champions and it is downright phenomenal. Controls are great and there is a lot of depth and challenge in the gameplay. All the Sports can hold their own in that regard.

Other games I’ve played that I greatly enjoy are Tumble, Hustle Kings, Flight Control (not available in the US though), Beat Sketchers demo, Echochrome 2 demo, Start-the-Party, Planet Minigolf, Heavy Rain Move demo, Tiger Woods demo, The Shoot demo, Resident Evil 5 Gold Move, High Velocity Bowling, the RUSE demo and EyePet. I haven’t even tried some of the other demos, though partly because I figured I wouldn’t really like them (TV superstars and Racquet Sports).

Right out of the gate, Move blows Motion+ out of the water both in terms of precision (although in some games the pointer support is a bit wonky) and very much so in terms of software support. This is a very, very impressive first week and launch! And word is that MAG support for Move in the beta since 1.04 is great too with players now switching to it as the preferred method (will go public in MAG 2.0)

I’ll give my impressions on the games in more detail later but right now I can summarise quickly with: if you have a PS3, go get one (or two) now!

If this board is about fighting ignorance, then it looks like we have a huge battle on our hands here. :dubious::smack:

What about rabid fan-persons? :stuck_out_tongue:

You’ve been convinced that you were going to love this thing for months, so it really shouldn’t come as any surprise to anyone that you think it’s great. Frankly, I’m going to wait for the market to render judgement on this one.

Fine with me. I am a patient man and can wait to be proven right and the longer you wait, the better the games get. But so far everyone that has tried the Move has been pretty darn enthusiastic about it (Move impressions are spreading nicely over Neogaf, one of the bigger gaming forums that I visit), and many of these are Wii owners saying all sorts of variants of ‘this is what I had hoped to get from the Wii’.

I can go into all sorts of details why I think the Move and many of its games are so much better, but if you’re going to label me a rabid fan-person out of hand, then I don’t have much of a chance, have I? And conversely, if you haven’t given the Move a fair and literal shake (only to find out that you actually need to swing  ), you don’t have much to base your judgment on either.

So I guess then all I’m saying to everyone who is even mildly interested is: go and try some Sports Champions Table Tennis, Tumble, Hustle Kings etc. and make up your own mind. It’s very cool.

Oddly, the only review of any move anything I’ve read would have best been described as “cautiously optimistic”. But then, I’m only following stuff that vaguely applies to my interests, instead of reviews of sports games I have no interest in playing. So… my mileage may vary.

In any event, you should hardly be calling ignorance on someone expressing his lack of interest in the product. It’s not like he stated anything in his comments as a fact, except maybe the idea of getting…well, ex-Wii players, which frankly, seems like it’s the marketplace Sony is going for, so it’s hard to complain about that.

Airk, I have no problem with stating disinterest - it definitely fits the OP! I just don’t agree with these five ‘facts’ (others would describe it as trolling).

Actually, as far as I can tell the only games that have ‘crossed over’ from Wii are new, upcoming titles like Ubisoft’s Racquet Sports and Aragorn’s Quest. Not that these games are awesome, but they are also only a few percent of upcoming games that support Move.

Or were you, as Airk is suggesting, talking about Wii owners?

Incorrect. The sixaxis had motion-feedback from the start. It even got its name from it! They had to play the rumble game because Microsoft cleverly struck a deal with a company that held the patents. Fine if you want to call that backpedalling - others would call it backstabbing.

300 is a good figure. Sure it would be nice if it were lower, but 300 is low enough. I would have liked that figure to include the Move already though - that’s probably the real problem for now, even though with the 320GB HDD, the BluRay player and everything else it’s still a way better deal if you want all those things. But obviously not everyone needs them.

Kinect is all but a promise, that isn’t showing much beyond advanced lag-hiding techniques (they’re now applying lag-hiding stuff from online gaming). That’s not to say that it won’t dominate the dance/fitness market - that is still certainly possible. But it will never have the depth or breadth of the PS3 or the Wii range of motion games.

It has been news - the first four months of this year the PS3 sold out in most places. It took the 360 Slim to actually regain the yearly sales lead. In Europe, it took the 360 Slim for Microsoft to be able to say they were outselling the PS3 for a whole month. In Japan, the PS3 overtook the Wii in yearly sales.
