Please don't discuss "24" with me

What are buddies for, Munch?

Drop me an e-mail when you’re through with exams and whatnot and we’ll figure out how to get a tape to you.

Wow, thanks KneadToKnow! But I just glanced at tonight’s listing, and there’s no “24” tonight. Friday’s showing is going to be a re-run of “3:00-4:00”. I think I’ll be able to beat my VCR into submission by that time.

N.B. If anyone would like to start a “Munch’s New VCR” Fund, I’m learning how to set up 501©(3)'s, so you can just send those funds directly to me.

Son-of-a-Gunderson. Glad you noticed that, Munch, because it slipped right past me! Things go wrong, though, the offer still stands.

BTW, I glanced at ebay for you and there’s some real good deals on VCRs over there.

I think I’d like to watch 24 in one or two huge binges.

I did watch Twin Peaks that way, and I think it helped with a lot of the tiny details that might have been forgotten if they were months in the past. I heartily recommend that TP be experienced in one weekend, preferably while subsisting entirely on coffee, doughnuts, and whatever mycological or pharmacological agents are at hand.

I watched the first two season of Oz that way, too.

Welcome to the club, Larry Mudd. From what I’ve been able to tell, it’s just you, Munch, and me. This thread resurfaces about once a week as we gather for mutual support.

Hi Larry! I too watched Twin Peaks all at the same time. A friend of mine owns the series (I think he got it on sale at Best Buy).

I think we need a club name. Knead gets to be the Dictator-for-Life.

Whoo-hoo!

Wait, does this mean I have to change my user name to El Puerco?

Well, you don’t have to change your name…

::makes a claim on El Grande Frommage::

When you were growing up, you probably didn’t think too much about your penis, but when you hit puberty, you realized it was quite a fascinating device with many and varied uses.

In the same way, I think you will find that once you purchase a TiVo, you will never again tape another single thing with your VCR again. The things TiVo does that a VCR cannot do are:

  1. It rarely, if ever “screws up” recording something.
  2. Fast-forwarding through commercials is a breeze.
  3. You can have the TiVo find the program you want, set it to record all episodes, and then you can save them all to VCR tape for future viewing, if you want to hold on to them forever or something as you seem to want to do.

I am personally gathering a full set of “Strangers With Candy” episodes, which - without TiVo - I would never have realized are still running. TiVo found them for me, Sunday night at 2:30am. Who knew?

If you had a TiVo, you wouldn’t be worrying if your VCR taped anything, because you pick out programs by picking their names and episode descriptions out of a list, rather than setting times and channels, etc. Way, way better.

Oh, I’m sure that TiVo is very capable at what it does, and the commercial thing sounds pretty sweet. But you see, Davis, I have a lot of spare time. Too much, in fact. Arguing and bitching with my VCR helps fill my day up, and creates a variety of conversations that I can have with people, where otherwise I would have to talk about the weather and other boring things.

Plus, it increases the possibility that someone will philanthropically buy me a TiVo. And to that potential person, I have to say that I would do great things with that TiVo, and not just use it to buy beer or crack. You see, I’m a firm proponent of directed giving, and if you direct your givings my way, I can help ensure that your legacy will live on in respect and self-worth, as I would be able to watch “24” all in one sitting, without all the commercials (although the commercials are actually part of the show, as the time the commercials take, the characters are still doing things - however, it would make a great addition to my collection of Notre Dame football games, which is currently a collection of zero).

… but I did think it worth changing my sig.

That’s fabulous! And I can’t believe we created a two page thread about us not watching a show. Think of all the other shows that we don’t watch that don’t have their own thread! Who’s going to start up the “Roswell” thread?

I bought a Replay TV a coupla’ months ago. I wouldn’t have, but it only cost me about $105.

So, now I am a fanatic about it. An absolute fanatic.

I’m considering spending less each month on cable because I don’t need all those channels! Listen to what I’m about to say very carefully: “Do you pay for extra cable channels? My dad does; he blows like 70 bucks a month on digital cable. And, when he finally finishes all the crap he has to do and sits down to watch TV, you know what’s on? Nothing. But, over at my house, there is always something I want to see on when I want to watch it.”

Reread that last underlined part again. Go ahead… I’ll wait.

I never watch live TV. I haven’t seen a commercial in months. And I haven’t watched something lame while waiting for what I wanted to see to start since the day I brought the Replay home.

Also, did you know about MyReplayTV.com? I just opened another browser window and surfed over there. I can now see all the shows on my Replay and everything scheduled to tape! I can even program it to tape something new via my browser!

[li]Two episodes of “Blue’s Clues,” one of “Bob the Builder” and one of “The Magic School Bus.”[/li][li]Two different shows about this year’s World Series of Poker: the ESPN coverage of the Final Table and the Travel Channel documentary about the entire tournament.[/li][li]Last night’s “West Wing” in case my brother missed it.[/li][li]“Amok Time.” And two days ago we saw "The Guardian of Forever![/li][li]Meryl Streep on “Inside the Actor’s Studio.”[/li][/ul]

Things I’ve learned since I started to use it? Do you have any idea how many times a day the Original Series of Star Trek is on television? (Multiply that number by 4 to get the number of TNG, DS9 and Voyager airings each day).

My Replay tapes the New Yankee Workshop every morning (3:30 to 4:00 AM)!

Remember “Encore Encore”, Nathan Lane’s short-lived sitcom? Bravo airs it in the wee hours… and I record it!

Thanks to my Replay I’ve seen every episode of “Sports Night,” an unjustly-cancelled show by Aaron Sorkin.

I taped the first “24” but didn’t think it was worth watching. But, I could have recorded every one for you, no problem, then downloaded it to tape each week. (That’s what I do for a friend who likes “Enterprise.”)

DVR’s are worth it. That’s all I’m saying.

Wow, this board really takes the first two rules of “24” Club pretty seriously, doesn’t it? The roll-back chopped this thread in half!

Knead, you never showed up at the Temp Board. What’s the dealio - you allright?

I’m fine, Munch. The thread you started on Fathom sort of petered out, and I never got around to signing up on the temp site, so I’ve just been kind of hanging out.

I call this meeting to order.

Montfort, you aboard yet?

Yes sir! Private Montfort, reporting for duty, sir! I’ve seen episodes 1-12, and now I’m in hiding until tapes come from the States for me to see the rest of the show, sir!

So, what do we do in this club besides not talk about the best show on TV?

Mostly we talk trash about F.N.G.s and Munch’s VCR, but since you’re here now, we’ll probably concentrate mostly on that first one.

Welcome, and keep your feet dry!

Wow, those smilies sure do take up a whole lot of room on my reply screen. Guess I’ll pop over to ATMB to see what’s what.

For the record everybody, Munch here forgot to put the tape in the VCR and turn it off. So we’re all crossing our fingers that I won’t have to stay late at work (never happens, so don’t worry about it) or get captured by aliens on the ride home (never happens, so don’t worrrrrr…AIIIIEEEEE!)

So, I’ve now missed two episodes, and my skin is crawling. KtK, I hope all went well last night with the VCR?

Be at peace, Montfort. All is well and continues to be so. Just so you’ll know, even on those rare occasions when I miss the Tuesday night broadcast (and it’s been weeks since that happened), unlike out dear Munch, I do get FX, so I have like 3 more chances to get it.

Haven’t missed one yet.
