Okay, I used to watch the show fairly regularly, but I stopped a while back.
I know Duchovny’s off the show and, since I don’t watch it anymore but am vaguely curious:
How did they get rid of him?
And any general commentary on the state of the X-Files universe vis a vis revelations, etc. would be interesting.
No doubt this thread will contain spoilers. Bring it on.
Here is the short version. At the end of last season, Mulder was abducted by aliens. Cut to the first episodes of this season. AD Skinner and Scully are on the trail of Mulder when another AD (can’t remember his name right off) assigns John Dogget (played wonderfully by Robert Patrick) to the case on finding Mulder.
I haven’t watched much of this season, but it should be the last one.
DD is not off the show comnpletely. He is signed to do a partial season. Fromm what I understand he has already filmed one episode that will be a flashback to last year and will explain what he was doing in North Carolina ordering his tombstone.
Ok, I need to back up a bit. In the final episode last season they return to Oregon and their first ever case. In essence the abductees from the pilot episodes are abducted again. In the final scene, Mulder sees a shimmering force field. He walks into it and there are all the other abductees. Then they are taken into the ship and it flys away while Skinner watches helplessly from the ground.
So now Scully has a new partner. She’s also preganant, though the paternity has never been made clear. It’s assumed that Mulder is the father, since an episode last season opened with Scully dressing in Mulder’s bathroom while he laid asleep in the bed. The scene was filmed in a way to make it unclear why exactly she was dressing in his bathroom, and therefore is open to interpretation, of course.
It also followed an episode where CSM took Scully on a long car trip. In one scene she awakes, not remembering falling asleep. So there is a period of time where CSM may have been able to implant her with a fetus.
I’m really curious how CC will take this particular storyline.
You should give the show another try. The quality of episodes had been slipping in the last couple of years, but this year they showed the “old magic”. It’s almost as if everyone involved from actors to writers are reinvested in making a good show.
The AD’s name is Kersh, only he was promoted to director this season, so instead of being Skinner’s equal, he is now his superior. Indications are that Kersh is a consortium flunkie.
