The last time I heard this song was in 2010 when Grooveshark was still a thing. I don’t remember any words because well, I don’t speak French. I can tell you this much:
-It’s from the 80s… I think late 80s, and it’s a pop song.
-A blonde girl is singing it.
-She’s crazy looking, and in the video, her eyes keep looking left and right to the beat.
-There might be a little person in it… and in the beginning, a guy is yelling"Ohhh nooo!"
-There’s a breakdown when a buzzing fly sound is heard and she says something that sounds like musca?
-The lyrics, if best repeated by an idiot-version of myself, would be "blah blah see, blah blah blah blah see, blah blah see, … yeah.
I’ve turned the net upside down this week trying to figure it out, searching for everything from “80s French pop songs” to “crazy blonde french 80s songs”
You find out who this is, and you’re probably the best searcher ever… in ever.
It’s not the Cocteau Twins or Les Rita Mitsouko, though they are both weird in their own right. If only I could remember just one or two words of the song, it might help more. But unfortunately it only sounds like The Sims language in my head.
When BwanaBob asked the question, “How do you know it was French?” I got momentarily excited, thinking, “Aha! Maybe it’s really Spanish!” After all, you said there was a buzzing fly sound following by the singer saying something like “musca.” Well, “mosca” is Spanish for fly. And as it turns out there was a crazy-type Spanish singer of ever-changing hair color named Alaska who had a hit in 1989 with a song called “La mosca muerta.” So I checked out the video for that song and… that’s not it. And now I see you’re convinced that it really is French, so back to square one.
Haha I wish this were easier but I still cannot find it myself.
That girl has a cute face. The woman I’m thinking of is a bit zany looking. I wish I could describe her better… Im gonna have to think even more about this.
No, it’s not her either. From what I can remember, this video was shot inside, big white background… I don’t think it had much of anything else but some people maybe dancing here and there. There may have been funky patterns behind her when she’d sing sometimes, but not all the time.
If I could just remember a few words in the chorus, I’d be more help.
I just assumed French of any nationality (Mitsou was going to be my first guess, too, but she’s not crazy looking and already got mentioned and rejected). But the OP does say he found it in a list of “French” music, so it might be helpful if the “French” refers to nationality and not just language. But I suspect the latter.
You both could be correct. I couldn’t tell you if she’s French Canadian or from France. All I know is when I first found her, back in 2010 I think it was… or 2011, I had heard France Gall and wanted to find other French singers, which led me to the video/song I keep mentioning. That list, and the fact she spoke French, is why I know she’s French but couldn’t tell you if she was from France or not.
Maybe she was? I don’t know. If you find her, you’ll know it by the song. Just listen for some guy yelling “oh no” a few times, a cowbell beat follows and some crazy blonde girl starts singing and showing close-ups of her face with her eyes moving left and right to the beat.
I keep getting vague memories popping up of her lyrics. If only I could make out a word or two. I need to undergo hypnosis.
The original (1977) version was by the Belgian singer Plastic Bertrand, but as soon as you threw in keywords like “crazy” and “French”, the first thing that came to mind was the cover (1997) of it by Thee Headcoatees that I have on my iPod. Theirs isn’t the only cover, either.
