Pluribus (New Vince Gilligan show on AppleTV)

I’m not falling for the Chekhov’s gun red herring ever since Martha bought an actual gun. If you know you know, otherwise it’s a spoiler.

I think I do know, since coincidentally I’m in the middle of a The Americans rewatch. It’s so good, yet the whole thing is emotional torture for like… everyone. The protagonists, the people they exploit, and the audience. It’s weird for something so good to be so unpleasant.

This. Even though it has been established that the joined have trouble “reading” Carol, they have to know that if Carol ever found out they fertilized her eggs and were trying to carry them to term she would go absolutely BALLISTIC in a way that made her two earlier episodes seem like a minor snit. If the joined were experimenting with her eggs (which is an interesting idea and I wouldn’t put it past them) they would use a body as far away from her as possible to incubate the eggs, rather than the one member of the joined that she chooses to interact with.

There’s no reason Zosia couldn’t have been pregnant before she was infected. A pregnancy could be a way to ramp up Carol’s (and the viewer’s) suspicions only to once again be deflated by a reasonable explanation.

Children can be delicious if prepared properly. Perhaps a nice teriyaki marinade. Not unlike veal really.

It was what she was singing at the golf course that made me laugh: “I’m Alright” (Kenny Loggins), the theme from Caddyshack.

I won’t speculate on the pregnancy question. The shot is ambiguous and if it’s important more confirmation will arrive soon.

They said they needed each Immune’s stem cells because the treatment had to be tailored to them individually — i.e., they don’t have “a” shot, they are planning to make a dozen separate shots.

Ok, so skipped 200 odd posts to post this, and will go back and read them, forgive me if this has already been covered.

So they can’t eat other lifeforms, so the only actual option (apart from fruit which has fallen from the tree, and arguably non fallen fruit if they distribute the seeds which is the pupose of the fruit), then they really only can eat themselves. Either naturally dying (and there will be a stock from the first few events, but that will run out), or committing suicide for the food source, but that has to be addressed at some point or they die.

They must have addressed this on previous planets, which brings the question: do they remember that? I’d ask if all this knowledge is from the current planet and a built in belief? I guess eating themselves is the only conclusion given the others. How low does go? There is bacteria in everything, including water…

As for the pregnancy (let’s just assume it’s true for discussion purposes), a couple of things. At first I thought Monsieur Bond had had a go and it was his (he does seem opportunistic and knew they’d left so she’d be available), and then there’s questions about actual offspring of immune people, and whether they would be able to learn from this situation.

Then I did think “could it have been from before she poisoned her”? It seems unlikely, she would have likely lost any child from that time.

And then onto Carol and her eggs. If they are wanting to make her happy and reduce the threat which is her unhappiness: provide her with a child. Perhaps previous IVF has been attempted and a father chosen before, can be reused. Or not a related child, just something for her to take care of. it seemed to pacify other immune. Could they be this inventive? Or is that beyond them with imagination and creativity.?

Idle curiosity: I presume that sleep is still necessary for the individual bodies, simply for physiological maintenance. Say a third of them are asleep at any one time, give or take. I wonder about the experience of sleep for the Plurbers, and how the brain activity of the sleepers is perceived by the rest of the Collective Entity (for lack of a better term). Are the sleepers simply dreaming in connection with everyone else, replacing undirected mental noodling with the shared livestream? Or is sleep now fundamentally different, such that the sleepers just “shut off”? Or is their dreaming a cacophony that those awake must minimize or ignore?

This is hardly an important question and I don’t for a minute expect that the show will address it in any meaningful way. It’s just a random “hunh, I wonder…” sort of thing.

Edit: accidental post

I’m not buying into the “individual” stem cell thing. Firstly, who was the subject of the first? And then who was the subject of the second that showed it’s a one-on-one thing?

Yes. perhaps via stem cells they can manually edit you into Pluri-bliss.

ISTR that initially their tone was more “We’ll get you! And your little dog too!”

The only reason I can see them doing this research is so that when they start transmitting the virus into space, it includes covering the likely ratio of 13 / 9 billion who are immune. Numberwise, that seems so insignificant.

If they’re not curious about why Manuosos living in a shack was not (for days) detected, he’d better damn well be. What was it about his abode that prevented it?

Not a lot of knowledge can be crammed into a couple of hundred base pairs. Unless the story has another bit of stupidness (like the food issue, which has been discussed here) the hive knows absolutely nothing about the message sender.

The stupid is easy to create though: the mechanism that individual human brains work as part of one meta-mind with apparent instantaneous communication between brain units across the globe, be it via some quantum spooky action or whatevs, works to also connect this earth hive mind to all other hive minds that have ever existed. Really once we accept the former, which we must, the latter ain’t much more a stretch.

That scratchcard win could come in real handy then? Or Carol could make a list of all the things she’s done wrong and use the winnings to make amends.

It wasn’t days. They tell Carol 12 (including her) within an hour or so after the joining. They find out about Manuosos the next morning. And I think it’s pretty clear they just thought he had died prior to the joining and found him the next day.

That being said, Bold Prediction Time: There is at least one more unjoined that we (and they) don’t know about. Maybe we’ll get a tease of it at the end of this season.

Indeed a bold prediction. The Plurbs should have put a lot more effort into discovering everyone.

There could be one or thousands, and neither Zosia nor Fabian is going to announce that fact blithely. Yet nobody wants to kill the Plurbs, and for whatever reason, being nice while also looking for conversion methods makes no sense yet. The Plurbs own the world. Start building the dishes to spread the virus and do whatever it is they do.

I’m good on the Fabian recording. I don’t need to hear it again.

Are you saying that your feelings towards the recording haven’t changed, but you need a little space?

Absolutely, but perhaps there will be Spanish version to look forward to once Manousos starts wreaking havoc.

“Lo que sentimos por ti no ha cambiado pero necesitamos un poco de espacio”
