Poetry in Motion - Today's MMP

G’morning all, happy Wednesday - it’s hump day at least. LOL Not -that- kind of hump, children. :stuck_out_tongue: I’m only -partially- caffeinated right now, and already at work–yes, this week I’ve been making the extra effort to get in early, trying to make a little credit time. So that I can use credit time instead of leave, see?

I am all  at the temps where Dotty. Gah, that’s way too hot!!! SpecialOne, it’s not that hot in T-A, is it?!

Good thoughts continuing for Ivory’s parents, although I do understand totally what else she said about her relationship with them. My parents had 5 kids, yet sometimes I would wonder if they would have been happier, each, single and childless!

My curiosity got the better of me and I went into the post about not googling “rat scrotum.” The OP was tending to a friend’s pet rat while the friend was away, and wondered about the size of the rat’s testicles (apparently, they’re -huge-!). Down in the post, one of the doper’s who is a vet posted about the time during an equine sperm collection that a female classmate got slapped in the face by an erect horse penis! I’m glad that I was at home when I read that, because I busted up over it. It left a large red welt on her face too, apparently, and I kept imagining how she would possibly explain her injury …

Oh yeah, it’s time to go fix that cuppa tea now, I think.

I can set myself up (and knock myself down) just fine!!!

That was hilarious.

Haze- thanks for the company yesterday evening! I came to the realization taht sometimes drinking does make you feel better. Temporary and all that-- but it does break a every spiraling downward pattern of thoughts.

It helps that I’m a happy drunk. oh, and action helps, too.

What is the MMP comin’ to! All night drinkin’ and debauchery! I’m shocked! Shocked I say! Well, at least y’all do seem to be waitin’ til the kids go to bed.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! I’m here to report traffic was non-existent durin’ my mornin’ commute from the kitchen to the study. Yay for telecommute days! I do have a pile of stuff to get done, so I best get busy.

Taters and Flutters hope y’all resolve the car problems soon.

Soapy you just had to go and say sangria. Now I want to make some.

Ok, to the work pile. Later Y’all!

ETA: Stay safe from Dolly Rebo and anybody else who happens to be around south Texas.

Morning Mumpers! Nelly and I have had our morning walk. I might do laundry in a bit.

That’s the first thing thought of, too. Great minds think alike?

136 degrees, Dotty? That’s closer to the temperature of a good cup of coffee than to a comfortable temp.

Herbs I saw that thread, too. I guees there’s no word in Rat for “shrinkage”

BooFae, I don’t think TinKnickers is ever going to let you do your notes.

55C? 55C?

That’s insane. How did people ever live there before air conditioning?
((((Ivory)))). I’m so sorry. Prayers going out for the whole situation, and vent here as needed.

Up and dressed and Nat had a slightly better night. QD and Attacks Husband were here in the evening, and made dinner (omelettes with parmesan (oops), zuchinni and parsley. Good stuff. My kitchen is suspiciously tidy.

We’re thinking about packing up for the next several days. Sort of abbreviated, because we can always come home and get stuff. We’re avoiding the Jazz Fest right outside.

Time for chores.
Anyone have recipes for sweet cherries? I’m buying some insane quantity of sweet and a larger amount of sour pitted cherries today or tomorrow. They’re frozen and pitted.

Doggio, I’ve been told that I have to use up my flexi-hours before I finish here and I’ve got just over half a day’s bonus hours accrued. That means I have to leave at 4pm every day and take at least a full hour for lunch. If I’m copying and distributing committee papers, that’s going to take at least half a day to do. That leaves me less than a full day to finish writing stuff because I still need to read over it and make sure nothing’s missing.

Somehow I don’t think that’s going to get done!

Thanks, Swampy, but it’s well away from Houston. We’re getting some much needed rain from it, though.

Rosie, I tried to notify you about the new Feud but your PM box is full.

Work is calling…All of a sudden I’m up to my ears in other people’s screw-ups, that I have to fix. Oh, joy!

Happy Humpers Mumpers!

Yes.

And apparently, so do ours… :o

**Tara **-- it’s nowhere near as hot in TA as in the Gulf. Highest “officially registered” temp ever in TA was 37C (98.6F – body temperature). Of course that’s “in the shade” – it often feels a lot hotter than that!
But those kinds of days are rarer here than in the gulf. Most days in the summer it’s about 30C (or around 90F)

**Boo **-- you just follow orders and regulations, hear? If TK doesn’t allot youtime to do your notes… Well, I suppose they just don’t get done!

Ivory… HOW’S THE HEAD??? :stuck_out_tongue:

Good morning, all. Caffeinating.

Hello goodbye!

returns to workification

Didn’t read yesterdays pages, sorry. Was supposed to be at work today and will be this afternoon, but #2 son had a temp of 103 yesterday, only coming down to 100.5 with Tylenol. Have appt this morning, then I have to go in.

And of course, work Th and Fr. I hate working when my kids are sick (unless it’s just a cold–a temp of 103 is not a cold).
Don’t read this if you are young, female and of childbearing years: I hate being a working mom. IMO, being a mom is full time. That is not to say we need to return to June Cleaver days, because there are lots of women who seem to thrive doing both. I am NOT one of them. Don’t get me wrong, I like the money (which we need), but if I had a choice, I would not be working outside the home (if there were something I could do while inside the home for $, I’d be there–but I didn’t seek a career as a novelist or have any desire to run my own business making stuff to sell at craft fairs etc.). I absolutely hate being torn between financial need and child-need. Yes, he may well be fine even if I leave him alone with a fever this afternoon (Daughter will be home), but I am not fine with it. Ok, I’m done.

There’s only one thing for it: botox and surgery for my sugar daddy, folks!

Mornin’. Caffeinated, still haven’t quite attained “awake” status. Up too late blogging. (Not a lot of articles, just one big recurring one I started last week.)

I still haven’t uploaded the pics yet, so I’ll have to get to that tonight. On the good side though Teh Sick has been all but routed; residuals remain, but mostly because they’re too injured to leave the battlefield. They will be cleaned up in short order and I’ll be back to right.

In the mean time I’m trying something new and munching on flax & honey lavash crackers dipped in roasted red pepper & feta cheese dip. At first it tasted kind of … odd. But it really grows on you.

Dotty - Holy heatstroke, Batman! I get all melty when it hits 35°C here. I’d be a bubbling pool of protoplasm with a heat index of 55°C. Air conditioning must be mandatory over there.

LiLi - No recipes handy, but now would be a good time to make cherry pie, cherry tarts, cherry strudel, chocolate cherry cheesecake with cherry coulis, cherry jam, cherries jubilee … mmmm, cherries.

Ugh! Back to work. Too damn busy now all of a sudden.

I know I’m a poor contributor, but I see Dotty’s temperatures and I have to point out:

I MOVED VERY FAR FROM THE DESERT TO THE BEACH AND I’M NEVER LOOKING BACK.

Mm’kay?

Just pointing out that Dotty’s desert is on the beach!

Ok, much more awake now, although I have been working diligently for the last hour. Well, mostly.

When we came back from Wall-E last night, we saw something in our backyard.

First, a little background. Our backyard is very dark. We have a motion sensor light attached to the house, but it doesn’t turn on until you’re 2/3 of the way into the driveway.

So we pull into the driveway, and he jokes “I wonder what we’ll startle in the yard”. And don’t we come around the corner and see, reflected in our headlights, a nasty little opossum.

It doesn’t run, either. Oh, no. It looks at us, calmly, eyes shining, and then sort of saunters over to the hole under the fence that we thought the groundhog had been digging to escape.

Opossums! Nasty things!

Dotty may have the heat, and she sure does, but I want some sympathy, too! I have the humidity. Most days it’s up to about 70% humidity here. This is how it works:

Days get warm. We have a couple of gorgeous days in the 80s.
Temperature rises as does the humidity. We start getting high 90s, with 65-70% humidity. Everybody is panting, there is no air, no breeze.
The humidity can’t be sustained. It rains. Sometimes it cools down, sometimes it remains hot. Always the next day, though - the day of the rain, it just remainds muggy and sticky.

Yesterday it poured when I was going to leave, so he had to come pick me up as I had my bike here. So today I brought the car in. Sigh.

BTW, this is a decent link for streaming Indian music if anyone is interested:

http://radio.musicindiaonline.com/

It has several different types.

I KNOW. That just blows me away. I spent six years in the Caribbean and many years on the Atlantic, but when it hits 85 F/29 C here on the coast of California, I want my money back!!!

That is why I love Florida. You already know it’s going to be in the 90s all summer long so you deal. We are actually only 88℉ today due to some cloud cover and rain.

rigs, I’m with ya on the “mom” thing. I wish I could have stayed home with my kids but, it was not to be.

boofae, they gonna hold you hostage if you don’t do your notes? I mean, it’s not like you are leaving the country. Can’t the new person call with questions?

I am NOT going to google rat nuts. Uh, uh. No way. :stuck_out_tongue:

Tupug

Can I come have drinks with you two, Meeks and Soapy? I’m cheap, as I don’t drink alkyhol.

Yesterday my rental had a flat. When I left work, it was vibrating worse than that chair of Haze’s; I was going slow on the slow lane, thinking I’d take the exit at the nearest mall and see if anything looked loose, when I noticed that it wasn’t answering correctly to steering, either. So I lifted my foot from the gas to go even slower (better than braking, as if there’s a problem with the tyres, braking can make it explode) and that’s when the tyre decided to go bellyup. I was able to stop on the shoulder without hitting anything or anything hitting me. Luckily it was on a highway, so there were emergency phones (I don’t have a local cellphone and wasn’t carrying mine); the emergency phone guy called the “tyres” number for my rental’s service, and the tyres guy was there in less than 15 minutes. He fixed the car up and said to be careful joining traffic again (it was rush hour and for once the traffic was being able to rush home for tea), but since there was an exit about two hundred yards ahead, what I did was take the exit and reenter (he thought it was a good idea, too).

So this morning I had to go get a new tyre; the people at the rental agency said I could bring the car there but it would be cheaper if I handled it myself, so I did. While the car was in the garage, I went and got me a local bank account. I’d tried it before with the two banks that have offices closest to my flat (the apartment, not the blown tyre) but they were being a PITA about ID and address and whatnot; this morning in RBS it took about fifteen minutes.

I’m glad nothing serious happened, that thing with the tyre could have been real bad.

Now I’m at work and the boss is looking at the list of “tables that were created for this program modification we’re supposed to be experts in” and going “but that’s stupid! but that one already existed! but they could have done this using (insert here something which already exists in the original program, has been tested and works fine)!” Yeah, boss, but that’s what happens when your modifications are defined by someone who doesn’t know the original program.

We have more than 300 tables and, of course, no documentation.
