I understand everyone’s point of view, but my opinion is that the terrorists we catch should be tried fairly, and be given life with no possibility of parole. There might not be enough room in NY prisons,so the terrorists should be sent to Texas penitentiaries to serve out their sentences. They should have to do some meaningful work, so how about forcing them to break big rocks into little rocks all day long, for as long as they live? With the scenarios everyone has planned, I feel that is keeping the terrorist’s in front of the cameras. They deserve as little fanfare and notoriety as possible. Their prison lives should have very little difference from the first day they arrive to the day they die. They should have years of unrelenting, grinding sameness. As for what to do with the people of Afghanistan? How about increasing the scope of Voice of America and broadcasting a stronger signal to them? For that matter, why not broadcast Voice of America to every hostile country in the world? I feel that would be a cheap, effective form of education to replace the brainwashing they currently undergo.

My suggestion: Build a mechanical noose that can be tightened by degreess. Increase the pressure slowly but steadily until the scum loses consciousness, but still breathes. When he comes to, start over again. Maybe mix it up by having it tighten to the point of seeing stars, then stopping, then tightening again and loosening when the scum passes out, then tightening a bit more so he comes to with it still choking him. Repeat until one of either the heart, lungs, or brain gives out. Let the other two organs struggle to function without the third until they give out.

As much my heart cried out for torture, I don’t want to give the perpetrator that much dignity. Calling this act “terrorism” is wrong, I think. We are not terrified. It was mass murder, plain and simple. It was an attack on the Constitution, and it has failed.
Assuming a suspect can be identified, arrest him. Try him. If he is found guilty, sentence him to life imprisonment, in solitary confinement. Show the world that we do not stoop to his level, but rather follow the letter of our law in all cases, no matter how heinous. We could sentence him to death, but that makes him even more of a martyr. We could “arrange” for his death, but really, what image of us does that communicate? Our law allow us to deal with him. Use it, I say.
Re-build the WTC, complete with a maximum security prison. Put all the terrorists in there. Solitary confinement. AND give them nothing to eat but pork. Everyday. Balance it with bread made with lard and cracklings. And give them soap made from lard to wash with.
And let planes fly over head 24/7.
I am mad as hell at bin Laden (assuming he did it) and the perpetrators who actually carried it out. I still cannot wish actual torture upon them, other than that they figured out what they did wrong. Suddenly they get the realization of “Oh. You mean that Allah DIDN’T want us to kill all those innocent people. You mean he is actually pissed off at us? Uh oh.”
However, if Osama bin Laden were crushed by a falling mosque, I would giggle my fucking ass off. No others would be killed by the falling mosque.

I think that we should scrape off all of their skin with a cheese grater then throw them into a vat of alcohol and salt which is on a barge floating down a continuous ‘its a small world’ ride and rip out their vocal cords so they can’t drown out the noise.

But remember that just because all of these terrorist (the ones that we are talking about) are Muslem, not all Muslems are terrorist.
In some ways*, I don’t want a big grand punishment for them, either here or in the afterlife. I want to each terrorist in a cell, with no contact with other humans, a crust of bread slipped in every day (when we remember), and every couple of days, a guard sticks his head in the cell and says “You’re such a jerk. No one likes you, you nasty piss pot.” And then leaves. For some variety (for the guard’s sake, I mean), he might occasionally say “You’re so stupid. And you suck.”
It bothers me that almost any punishment, either real or in our collective fantasy life, might appeal in some way to the terrorists because they already think they’re oh-so important. Like if we punish them really spectacularly, they’re going to think “ooooh, I’m so dreaded that they have to bring out the big guns! Mwauahahahaha.” I want to drive the message through their heads that they don’t matter at all … it’s their victims who matter.
Of course in other ways, I’m entertaining quite a few fantasies that involve the Black Hole of Calcutta and a chain saw.
While imprisonment might be the “right” thing to do with these folks, I can’t help but think that doing so would likely result in an increase in terrorism (especially if bin Laden is among them), as their followers/supporters/minions/whatever begin a whole new terror campaign demanding their release.
My idea is to break all their limbs in several places. Once this is complete they would be woven through the spokes of a large wagon wheel. The last step would be to mount the wheel on a pole sticking up from the ground and let buzzards have at 'em.
I was going to vote for imprisonment, too, but I think Darwin’s Finch is right in that there would be terrorists demanding their release.
I am 99% opposed to capital punishment. IMHO, this would be a case where capital punishment makes sense. Do a simple lethal injection, a la McVeigh.
