No formal engagement. About 18 months from beginning of dating, which gradually morphed into “living together” then into “making wedding plans.”

I was 27; she was 26.
A) 2 years
B) 24
A) About two years.
B) I was twenty-six. She was mnmfn…
Coming up on our twenty-fourth anniversary.
Can I ask the reason for the poll, or are you just curious?
Regards,
Shodan
A) 1 yr 7 months
B) I was 31 she was 32
A. Three years of online friendship, three years of online dating/visiting every couple months, I moved out here in July, and we’ve been engaged for three months. We’re getting married in April.
B. I’ll be 28, he’ll be 27.
I knew my wife for three weeks before we got engaged. We didn’t date, we were living “in community” in a college.
I was 24 when I got married. My wife was… um… 26.
I just want to say “Thanks!” to Garfield226 for starting this thread. I’m almost 23, and am seeing all of my high school classmates’ wedding announcements in the newspaper as well as couples that met each other at work getting married (our workplace opened less than two years ago). As a result, my “biological clock” has been going haywire, keeping on telling me that, after five years of dating as my boyfriend and I have done, more couples end up breakingn up than getting married. I’m glad to be able to go “Ha!” back at said biological clock after seeing the lengths of time that some of you all have dated.
Thanks again!

A) A year and a half
B) I was 23, he was 19
C) We’ve been married for 17.5 years.
(sorry TygerD)
- We were together for 2 years + 1 month before we got engaged
- I was 35 when we got married, and he was 30 (in May 2005).
Sure, see below.
You’re welcome.
Mostly, the reason for the poll is that several of my highschool and college friends (I’m 21) have been getting married after dating for various lengths of time, and I wanted to sort of see what the range was. My cousin (also 21) and his girlfriend (19, I believe) have been dating several years and are getting married next summer. An ex-girlfriend of mine dated a guy for about a year and got engaged before she was out of highschool.
It seems like the majority of my college-paper newsroom is married, and I was stunned to hear some of them nonchalantly mention “that’s my wife” or “my husband’s coming to pick me up.” “These people are the same age as me!” I thought. Some even younger.
I’m also in a relationship right now, and while it’s only been almost three months (friends for a month first) and there’s still plenty of developing to go and we’re not making plans or anything of the sort, it’s the first one I’ve had which I’ve thought could possibly have a future leading to that.
So I was mainly just curious. Thanks for all the replies, they’ve been most helpful. Keep 'em coming.
Um, we dated for four months or so before getting engaged. I know, it sounds crazy, it did to me at the time too. We were engaged for about 7 months, so by our wedding date, we had known each other for almost exactly a year (allowing fo acquaintance before dating).
We were both 22 when we got married.
Coming up on 10-year anniversary.
Two years dating and married at age 19 the first time.
Three years dating and married age 51 the second time. We lived together for two years before we made it official.
We were together about 2 1/2 years before getting engaged (already living together, though); we got married 1 1/2 years after that (4 years total), and we’ve been married a little over 4 years.
On our wedding day I was 33 and she was 24.
We met back in high school (I was 14 he was 15), we were first loves, broke up almost a year later and sowed our oats for over 6 years. Saw his friend about 6+ years ago (he was a customer of mine), exchanged numbers for us, we’ve been inseperable since.
A) So we dated 2 years and 2 months before getting engaged, we were engaged for 2 years and 2 weeks, and we’ve been married for 2 years and 3.5 months.
B) We were both 25 when we tied the knot.
A) Almost 5 months. But that’s misleading, since we were best friends in high school and had known each other for 11 years before we started dating.
B) I was 25. She was 24.
a) four months
b) 28
A) How long did you date before getting engaged? Dating is sorta the wrong word. We knew each other a year, then decided we were in love and moved in together. Lived together 4 years before we were married.
B) How old were you when you were married (or, for the engaged, how old will you be when you get married)? Me, 23. Him, 32.
A) How long did you date before getting engaged?
Suburban Plankton and I dated for two years before becoming engaged. We were engaged 6 month before getting married.
B) How old were you when you were married (or, for the engaged, how old will you be when you get married)?
I was 24, he was 25.
We dated for almost 4 months, got engaged, married about 4 months later. I was 29, he was 33. We’ve been married about 3.5 years now, and I still am thrilled every day.
a) About 4 months, But I asked after 3 months.
b) I was 26 when I got married.
