If a poll specifically requests that people who select “other” explain why they they did so in the discussion thread, but none of the people who select that option actually do, does it bother you?

  • Yes, in such polls selecting “other” constitutes a promise to post in the discussion thread, and those people have broken their promise!
  • It mildy annoys me
  • I don’t really care
  • I actually prefer that people not explain why they chose “other”
  • I am one of those people who selects “other” but doesn’t honor the request to explain
  • Other - please explain in the discussion thread

How happy/emotionally healthy/functional was your parents’ marriage growing up? [Consider descriptions to be secondary to the base number category since any dysfunctions could have taken many forms, more than I have room for]
  • 3: My parents’ marriage was utterly beatific and happy, they loved each other very much, and had very few disagreements or arguments
  • 2: While they occasionally had their differences and arguments, for the most part they were loving and respectful towards each other
  • 1: They may not have been passionately in love with each other, and raised their voices towards each other here and there, but their marriage was reasonably healthy
  • 0: Pretty middle of the road: they didn’t always see eye-to-eye, and maybe one or both cheated once or twice, but they always kissed and made up and made it work out OK in the long run
  • -1: They weren’t often on the best of terms, had some loud arguments, perhaps some affairs, but somehow managed to stay together despite their relative incompatibility
  • -2: Things could get rather bitter between them, but no actual physical violence ever happened. Cheating may have been rather rampant, and might have had at least one separation
  • -3: It was a deeply unhappy marriage, with either unrestrained affairs, actual physical violence, or both (or some other nasty dysfunction like over finances)
  • I didn’t grow up with at least one of my parents
  • NOTA, some other scenario/description

How good are you at bowling?
  • Never been bowling. Who knows?
  • Terrible. Any pins I knock down was purely by accident.
  • Bad. I’ll struggle to score 50.
  • Not good. I might score 100 on a good day.
  • Okay I guess. I can usually score over 100, maybe up to 150 or so.
  • Average. 150 is not difficult, I can approach or pass 200 on a good night.
  • Above average to good. 200 and up is not an unusual score.
  • I think I’m better than an above average bowler.
  • I’ve bowled professionally, or probably could.
  • What kind of bowling?
  • Something else?
  • What the hell is “bowling”?

You do a favour for an eccentric billionaire. In recompense she offers you the chance to roll a fair 10 sided die labelled 0 up to 9. She tells you you can either keep your first roll or have one reroll and keep the second roll. She will then multiply the roll by $1 million.

There are no tricks or loopholes, just treat it as a fair deal

Your first roll is a 1, do you reroll?

  • Yes
  • No
