Poulty, Beef, Pork, Seafood or Vegetarian?

You are going to a big dinner. You don’t exactly know how they are preparing the dishes, but these are your choices.

Which do you select (with unknown specifics).

Almost always beef.

Loves me some dead cow.

Pork. Everywhere I friggin go it’s beef, chicken, or seafood. I loves me some pork.

Seafood is now in the lead (with my vote) - not surprising. People seem to be more passionate about seafood than the other kinds of food. It has a real cult following, as far as the mainstream foods go, in my opinion. I often hear people say, “oh man, I LOVE seafood!” “You know a good seafood place around here? I love seafood!” I never hear them say that about beef, pork, chicken or vegetarian.

Seafood. The others are boring.

I’m sure you’re primarily referring to the usual suspects, as in what most people consider “normal” seafood, e.g. fish, shrimp, scallops, clams, oysters, crab, lobster, etc. but to some, “seafood” is almost completely ambiguous. Upwards of 70-80% of everything alive lives in the sea, and almost all of it, unfortunately for them, is delicious.

With no idea as to the prep, I’ll pick vegetarian every time. Most catering companies don’t know how to get fancy with vegetarian dishes, so they play it safe and will likely make something moderately tasty that I’ll like. There are too make ways to fuck up protein for me to choose anything else. Spoken as an attendee of way too many awards banquets.

Stealth brag!

Chicken or vegetarian.

Based on experience, seafood is almost always a hunk of fish on a bed of wilted greens and/or rice. Beef is the same, but substitute something potato-based for the rice, and a heftier vegetable for the wilted greens. Both of those could possibly be tasty, but if they didn’t cook the meat right, there isn’t enough interesting on the plate to salvage the meal.

Chicken always seems to have the most interesting/diverse preparation, often with herbs, or fruit, or something like that. Vegetarian options are typically ravioli stuffed with squash, or some other pasta-based thing, also with spices and a variety of vegetables.

I love steak, but if I don’t really know about the preparation and/or don’t have faith in their ability to cook it as I like it, I won’t order it.

ETA: Oh, and if it’s just ‘poultry,’ you could luck out and get something that isn’t chicken (duck, quail, pheasant), which would almost always win in my book, even if I’m not choosing blind.

Beef. Harder to wreck.

Mediocre beef is better than good chicken/pork/seafood any day. And great chicken/pork/seafood is a rare find.

 What do you eat that ain’t on that list? You’ve covered fish, crustaceans, and molluscs. What else is there, kelp and sea urchins?

I’ll take the seafood every time. Beef is everywhere. Chicken is mundane. Vegetarian threatens beans and rice, or something meh. Pork - well, can hope for BBQ, but it’ll probably be sliced pork with gravy. Give me seafood. I can’t afford to even buy myself seafood very often, seeing as it’s disappearing so fast the price is ridiculous. So I’ll help it disappear!

Without having any more detail that what was provided, I’d go with Beef.

But only because Lamb was not a choice.

My wife swears by sea urchin roe scooped out of a living sea urchin.

Beef is my favorite food, and it’s hard to prepare it in any way I will really dislike.

For me, I usually choose the beef unless I know the caterers or the restaurant very well. Then it might be the pork. I would like to be able choose the vegetarian option sometimes, but inevitably there are mushrooms in vegie dishes that are difficult to pick out. If the beef comes with a mushroom glaze or some such unnecessary thing on it, I can easily scrape it off.

Seafood’s my favorite and would be my first choice if I had some idea of what it would be. There is a wide variety of what could be called seafood and there are a few varieties I don’t like.

Not big on beef anyway and I dislike it when it’s served rare so that rules out beef. I like lamb (which wasn’t an option) but again the rareness is a factor when I don’t have a choice in preparation.

So I went with the “safe” options. Not my favorites but nothing I’d avoid. Of the three, poultry’s the one I generally like best.

This but seafood was my second choice.

I had to use random.org to choose between poultry and beef, without knowing any further. Random.org picked beef for me.

And now, I’m going to assume that it was a nice, lean roast, well done, with mashed potatoes and gravy.

I love pork too. I don’t like most seafood.

Additionally, it’s unlikely that the pork will have a ton of black pepper on it. I can’t eat black pepper without suffering some rather disastrous side effects. Poultry usually has some pepper on it, and beef is quite frequently peppered to death.
