Prepping for a visit in the MMP

I’m an ex government worker, I’m so used to it now, LOL!

Thank you and everyone for the kind words. So far, there haven’t been any fun parts involved, but I’m sure I will be much happier when it is finally over.

Have I mentioned lately that I think you have the most awesome smile? Just mentioning…

That sounds amazing, I’m so happy you had that experience.

I am always so happy when I see them on the shelf, sadly our Aldi doesn’t always have them.

Back when Hubs was the Leader of the Pack, one of his responsibilities was to “clean” up homes after someone went down.

Some of us would go to their home and break in if they weren’t able to give us a key so we could box up their sex toys, porn and assorted paraphernalia. Not because of police but because ain’t nobody wants Mom opening their nightstand drawer and finding their dildo collection.

Thank you so much for saying that, I really do appreciate it. I’m really over this whole thing and have figured out that the only way to get it over is to do the work. I’m not a quitter, but the whining will probably get louder.

Apparently they had a meeting after I left yesterday because my recover has been going much faster than expected. (I credit all those years of Tai-chi for keeping me so flexible) The new plan is much harder than the old one and I’m finding muscles I didn’t know I had.

Something that really helps is that I can feel the improvement every day now. That motivates me to want to work more so I feel even better tomorrow.

Oh man, that really does bite! FOO!!!

Good on you. Cleaning small places is hard because they look so bad so quickly and you don’t have any room to work.

So today Jolene went to our new vet for a meet and greet. The vet says Jolene is a very sweet, very healthy lil girl who won’t need to be seen for a couple of years. George was beside himself when Hubs walked out with the carrier. He whined and complained the entire time she was gone.

Jolene did very well, she didn’t poop in the carrier this time but had a very swishy tail for an hour after she got home.

I don’t have PT tomorrow and am not sure what I’m going to do with myself, but as for tonight, its ice and weed time again. And stitching, my hand is remembering what it should be doing and my PT guy says that playing with needles is good for my fine motor skillz.

Drip seems contained.
Called my gyno. I was tested Thursday.
Well seems I have bv and a yeast infection, but a different strain that the one pill flucanozole( sp?) Isnt made for.
Now I must take metronadazole, which I havent for a long time, and hope my stomach doesnt hurt this time.
Never having sex again. Once in April- uti and yeast. Once in May-same.
Shouldve let my late ex have been the last one.
In brighter news, everything else is healthy.
Church dinner was a slice of pizza and I had a side of cantaloupe( cantaloupe eyes come to me tonight).
I told them to take a meal out to elizabeth in the motorized wheelchair as she cant go down the steps in it.

You don’t know the half of it. They actually took a vote as to whether to replace the water-stained ceiling tiles now or to just let it go until later. Sure, I LIKE living in a shithole! There has also been a decision not to do preventive maintenance on building systems, which really got my dander up. I went and bitched out the council president about it, for all the good it will do. I’m going to write a letter to the facilities manager in Chicago and see if that gets any action.

Can you - or anyone else - 'splain plz?

It’s not quite “frog strangler” out there yet, and Culver’s is still open, and I don’t think a half-portion of spinach/artichoke is gonna cover it.

Can’t decide between a chzbrgr or a Swiss melt, but I gotta decide soon.

I thought many were old enough to remember the song Judy in Disguise.

Still at Sis’. Went to the infectious disease guy today. I dropped 10 lbs in water weight over the last week and my kidneys have slowed their path to hell. I’ll be here until I’ve spent a day on a new med.

Enough medical kvetching.

To answer the OP, under normal circumstances, I would tidy up any studio projects, run a brush around the toilet bowl after a batch of muffinswent into the oven.

Well, it is now, right when I rolled up to Culver’s.

I didn’t get a chocolate malt (“we have ice cream at home!”) and of course, yup, regrets. But the patty melt (“lots of onion, plz!”) is delishush.

Up from naptime. Having a Manhattan and Redneck Stirfry.
spot is somewhere being cat and mysterious.

So you’re going to purify the air purifiers. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I’ve rented from slumlords who were better at it.

Cool.

< Arthur Dent and Jean Luc Picard like this post >

I’ve unloaded a truck in 100 degree heat, and had a cup of coffee afterwards.

Well, take care of yourself first, house later.

This is why we’re friends.

Because I’m a maschochist, I decided to join my HOA’s board of directors (BOD) Zoom meeting this evening. Most of the useful information on the HOA’s web site came from BOD meeting minutes, and I’m a nosy dork…but yeah, I was the only non-board-member on there. Waaaay more conspicuous than I thought I’d be  At one point I briefly introduced myself and explained why I was there, and dropped off when they needed to have an executive session. I wish more residents attended and my participation wouldn’t be so noticeable, because it was a good source of info: among other things, I learned that we’re getting new cluster mailboxes soon.

The sad thing is that listening to an HOA meeting is the most exciting thing I’ve done outside of work in a while. :frowning:

I think I just need for August to end. Work is going to stay super busy through mid-September, but the start of a new month (my birthday month, at that) plus the promise of cooler temps will help. Unfortunately, my HS friend is not able to travel out here for Iron Maiden on the 11th: he was the second of both of my (acceptable) companion options, and as much as I’d been looking forward to it – likely the last time I’ll try to see them – I absolutely know that I’d be absolutely miserable on my own. So, in a couple more weeks I’ll start looking to resell the tickets. At least now I have Ringo Starr at the end of the month to look forward to. :musical_notes:

I like tea (Earl Grey or Yorkshire, black), but I have very little patience with hot liquids so I rarely have it. Or hot chocolate. Or soup.

Yes, despite my expressed belief that it’s a complete waste of time! Every few visits I ask the hygienist if I can skip that part…I’ve been going to the same woman for 20+ years now, and she just laughs.

Whenever I make it over there, you may definitely stay in your jammies!

You both just have to come visit D.C. sometime: she’ll change her mind when she sees it in person!

The butter wouldn’t melt, so I put it in the pie.

I made it through the whole work day today. Even loaded and unloaded a 450 lb compressor, granted we had a forklift, but still. Also a trip to the dump with several hundred pounds of shit. I swear I will get the useless stuff out of that place eventually.

I need 2 dumpsters.

metal mouse I keep hearing “and butter pie” in John Lennon’s voice, but the closest I can come up with is Penny Lane, and I know that’s wrong.

If anyone came to my house…I have so many tools from when I moved out of my shop and nowhere to put them, my living room is better equipped than many wood shops.

I hear a squeaky dog by the back door saying she hasn’t been out in weeks. One last wander around the yard, then bed time for painters and dogs.

See’s y’all tomorrow.

After 10pm and last visit of the night, have done nothing constructive since my last post so onward with the scrolling…

Shoe, the ‘butter pie’ reference was to a Paul McCartney song, “Uncle Albert and Admiral Halsey”. See Oopsie’s response for the lyric.

Thanks for the complement, friend doggio.

Oopsie, I have to attend board meetings for the soccer group (being the Safety Director) and most of them are ‘bored’ meetings, so I know what you mean. Not an Iron Maiden fan, maybe one will show up at the last minute. And I don’t mind the tooth polishing, but the spinning brush they use will contact my gums sometimes and they are very sensitive so…

VanGO, see above for the song reference.

And closing in on 10:30pm, so off to Slumberland I go.

I’m fond of their patty melts as well. Their Reuben ain’t half bad either. The hardest part is getting the grill cook to put in enuf grilled onions.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s 74 degrees Ferret Height(23.333 Centipedes). Spot is having Screaming Tuxedo Zoomies.

Mornin’

At one of my former residences, there was a pie shop at the end of the street that sold butter pies, they were my favourite, especially toasty warm ones on a cold day. Nowhere really does them outside of Lancashire though, and a lot of the old bakeries are dying out and being replaced by chains, so they’re not easy to find even there now; I’ve not had one in years.

You don’t need the ‘a bit of’, as ‘a wee spot of’ means the same, but close.

We have patchy rain due later, but the sun is currently out. At least I can see the sky from my desk, so I don’t wind up totally unaware of these things.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 77 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 97 and sunny. At least there’s no heat advisory in effect today. I shall accomplish mowage of the front yahd this mornin’. We shall also procure provisions later this mornin’ and pick up fried chikin plates for lunch and the day’s main need to feed. The rest of the day will be spent in high RDOS sloth, inside in the a/c.

Coppertone I got the reference cause I am old. Also, I usually say, “cantaloupe, ain’t got a ladder.”

VanGo glad you had a better day at irk.

JtC go you! You are makin’ amazin’ progress with the PT. That’s why PT guy wants you do do the harder stuff. Also, yay your fingers remember how to stitch!

Oopsie attendin’ a zoom board meetin’ is an acceptable thing to do if’n you don’t have any wet paint that needs to be watched until it dries.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. When it’s daylight enough I shall then go onward into the mowage! OK, I will wait until at least eight a.m. cause I am a good neighbor.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 19c/66f with a predicted high of 21c/70f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “It’s merely fucking average outside. Sort of like all the fucking Michael Bay movies.”

flyboy part of the reason our office windows only open a few inches is to keep the squirrels out!

metalmouse sorry to hear about the messy new soccer system, it’s probably much the same as our new student records system - something that worked perfectly well, we all understood it, therefore it must be changed.

Mollie you are quite right, a good Yorkshire pudding can make or break a roast dinner. My mum used to worry far too much about hers, they were always perfect.

WetOne yay for being able to ride Ariel again!

That’s why I dealt with it at home, so that Cherry could sort out the Invisible Mole People for me

Cookie I’m sorry that you’re selling the remainder of your woodworking stuff, but it does make sense and will make you feel better if someone else can at least benefit from the proceeds. Also sorry to hear about the idiot at the tenants meeting, there really is no helping some people.

Oopsie sorry you couldn’t find a taker for the Iron Maiden ticket, if I’d been closer I would have come with you (and even changed out of my jammies!)

Yesterday had a busy ending. Irk was irksome, I logged out and went downstairs to make campus food for the rest of the week. Then I fed the cats, got changed and went to the gym for a kettlebells session. Came home, threw all my gym stuff in the wash, showered and got dressed, then warmed up some leftover chicken curry for dinner. Watched some tellybox stuff and went to be early as I had an early start today.

It’s been busy already, I had a meeting at 9am and another at 10am, and I’ve got a training session at 1pm which is my usual lunchtime so that’s a bit rude. Not much work will be done today then. No pub tonight either as my friends have their builder coming round to do a final inspection on some work and to remove the leftover bits and pieces from the work site.

Eons ago we lived in a neighborhood with an HOA and we decided to attend a meeting (in person!!) Once. Only once. The next (and last) time we lived in an HOA neighborhood, we paid our dues and fought their petty “inspections” and swore never again. That was a major criterion when we shopped for our current house - no HOA. In theory, they’re a good idea. In practice, they’re a bunch of busybody control freaks… at least in my experience. You were far too brave. Or insane. I’ll not judge.

Good luck to you. “We might need it some day” is the battle cry of the hoarder, IMHO. Yeah, you might, but probably not. Ever. I admit, I sometimes fight that urge, but I’m getting better.

I suddenly flashed on a former coworker (bachelor, of course) who was literally building a Cobra in his dining room. Then he decided to build a garage, and I helped.

That’s me in the foreground, maybe 30 years ago?

The day started with 65 Ferrets, on the way to upper 80s. After lunch, I’m taking Roxy to her house to change into swim attire. Then we’ll go to the marina pool where we’ll await her mother and brother. I’ll even suit up and join her in the water. Not a whole lot else planned for today apart from emptying the dishwasher.

She was up waaaaaay too late last night - I heard her talking to FCD some time close to 11 (I think - I was exhausted and already under covers.) So I hope she sleeps a couple more hours this morning, tho that’s not likely.

And so the day begins. Happy Wednesday!

Partly my fault. I swore I would never go to another one of these useless fuck-fests, and caved to my wife. Never again.

For all you tea lovers in this thread (and I include myself), I give you Tea Pot Town:

Link to old tea promotional cartoon from 1936

I love a comfortable cuppa hot Assam tea, brewed super-strong, with milk and sugar. But I mostly drink decaf tea nowadays. Luckily, Harney’s Tea sells some high quality decaf Assam.

My decades-old slow cooker bit the dust the other day, so I looked at reviews online and bought the one which most people liked best. I ordered one, and good thing I did: it’s now out of stock and apparently Cuisinart doesn’t make them anymore. I think I got one of the last ones in existence.

I just set it to cook its first potful of food. It’s carnitas, done according to a Rick Bayless recipe. I bought a good chunk of pork shoulder and some pork lard from the supermercado, and they’re simmering away. It should be done in three hours, which will be in plenty of time to make homemade carnitas tacos for lunch today. I’d better check to make sure I have enough corn tortillas.

Chefguy, a friend of mine lives in an upscale mobile home park for senior citizens, in a place she inherited from her parents. When she first retired, she volunteered to work on the board of directors, so she could utilize her organizational and clerical skills from her years as a legal secretary. She eventually gave up on that when she found that it was mostly a meeting place for bitching widows.

I wish I could remember who said it so I could quote it exactly. Someone made a finely crafted pun about President Trump’s troubles in the Strait of Hormuz and his own strait of warm ooze.

Oh, joy! That means two things. First, you’ll have to walk halfway around the block to get your mail, and second, your new mailbox will be small enough to ensure your mail will be wadded up or you’ll get a little card saying, “Too big for mailbox, come to the PO to get it.”

Frank Beard died. He was the drummer in the power trio ZZ Top. IMHO, he was the best drummer I ever heard.
