I’d be delighted! And i might tidy a couple of things. But my house is always messy. If that’s going to bother you, don’t visit. Lots of little seem willing to visit me despite the mess.
A family friend thought it was so cute that her tiny daughter was so obsessed with watching the workmen building a wall outside, until she told her it was bedtime and got the response “Aww f**ing hell”, with gestures.
Or as we call it, a new build.
The extension of my old village church dates back to around 1200, and the original bit of it was probably pre-Norman invasion. My brother’s school has been going since the mid 1200s, though admittedly the buildings were newer (having been to a few of their school events, some of the teachers may have been original…)
Decently sunny day today after a lot of overnight rain. We have overnight temperatures below 10C on the week’s forecast. Only just below, but still… I shall have to make sure the 'maters don’t catch cold.
A reasonable amount of writing happened, and I squeezed in a quick trip to the recycling centre with a load of prunings during lunch. I think it may be pasta for dinner. No Yorkshire puds for me today, though it’s a thought.
My pipe had been dripping though covered ( in ceiling. Finally they wrapped something around it and it was good. We’re gonna put vents in so it airs out.
Yesterday they did and it is dripping through the vent.
Maintenance dont seem very competent.
Now they will let Joe know when he comes back Thurs.
I sent half of the chicken salad home with SIL - FCD and I had some for lunch and there’s one large or 2 small portions left.
Heh - I decided against changing all the stuff. It took a while but I updated all the smart plugs and TVs. Daughter will not be impressed when she signs into our WiFi, but it’ll be once and done, so no biggie. Plus the password is on a label on the modem/router so there’s that.
My toddler niece was in the car with my sister (this was almost 40 years ago) and she was trying to do something with her sunglasses. Naturally, toddler fingers and certain tasks just don’t go together, so Niece threw the glasses down with a resounding “F#ck it!!” Thus did my sister learn to watch her language.
We’ve lunched, then made a run to the thrift store, Food Lion, and Aldi. Now we’re home and Roxy is practicing her knitting. It’s slow going and she’s made some mistakes, but for a first-time effort, she’s doing well.
Shew!! It’s been a busy couple of days! Mostly catching up with stuff I should have gotten done before, but whatever.
It’s currently 69 < snerk > Ferrets with a projected high of 88F. Icky. Things get reasonable again starting on Friday. I’ve no business complaining, though, so I’ll deal.
In answer to the thread title question, an hour’s notice would be fine. I’m reasonably (superficially) tidy. And the way the house is laid out, people rarely get past the kitchen. (Don’t open the junk drawer, though.) So stack a few dishes into the dishwasher, give the toilet a quick scrub, remove the dog throws off the furniture, maybe run a quick floor duster around and put on the coffee. Or make sure there is a bottle of wine chilling. I always have a stray goodie onhand to share. Currently there is banana nut bread and oatmeal chocolate chip pecan cookies in the freezer and a fresh peach pie in the fridge. Give me 10 minutes, and I’ll have fresh baked brownies for you, if you prefer. With or without NON. Problem is, they won’t cool very fast, so you’d better opt for the pie, cookies or nut bread.
I don’t do drop-ins, even from Mumpers. Thank you, Mr. Gate!
I sure hope things are better for you soon, red. You’ve endured a lot for this treatment – very understandably! – and I just hope the next few weeks go smoothly. Hang in there, 'kk? Nelson and his kin are quite fetching. Love the piccie!
FCM, ugh on the non-appearing family members. But after the initial disappointment has abated, there is something kind of nice about having a nice, tidy home and food made ahead for the next few days. It is a shame one can’t freeze chicken salad. I see you’ve already dealt with that concern, though.
Welcome home to your cosmopolitan daughter, yanker! I would love to hear her stories.
Good job on completion of the new office chair, metal mouse! And congrats on the continued weight loss, too!
We share this concern, rocker. In my case, the answer is, “Oh, dear.”
Yaayyyy, wet one, I’m so glad you and Ariel will soon be riding together again! I hope it all goes well.
Nellie, my best wishes to your daughter in such a challenging stretch in her life. I know you will help her through in every way you can. Hope your sis’s angiogram/stent procedure goes well. Max is just heart-meltingly cyyoote! I hope repair of your popped stitch is without drama or complications. Safe travels when you head back east.
I think you are just aces for doing this through thick and thin, JtC. It takes a tremendous amount of intestinal fortitude and dedication. But then, you’ve shown us you have that with how you’ve handled your PT, too. You’re a star! I hope ice cream and shine were part of your evening. Or a second pain pill, whichever worked the best.
It is totally nummy. If you like any of popovers, German pancakes/Dutch babies, you’ll probably like Yorkshire pudding, too.
Agreed. I always feel like I’m riding on guts from mid-July until the rain starts again here, with the threat of wildfires. We’ve had a fairly moderate year so far. Enjoy the time at your son’s place, if you go!
Bbbboo, you are a fount of interesting information. Thanks for sharing what you know.
Cute, doggio. How about, “My PenIsLeaking!”
Yesterday was busy with continuing (mostly repetitive) household tasks. More roll-sucking, some dusting, the construction of a peach pie, figuring out some things on my refrigerator that required adjustment, crap like that. Ignore-it-at-one’s-peril stuff.
I used a new peach pie recipe, and I won’t bother with it again. A lot of extra fussing for an outcome that wasn’t special enough to merit it. The peaches are divine, though.
Ollie had toenail trimming first thing this morning, so that’s done and dusted for another couple of weeks. His nails are growing like mad, so the trim place suggested another trim in 2 weeks rather than three. I’ve no idea why the sudden spurt of growth on them, but they looked like something out of a horror movie pre-trim.
I learned my blood type and it’s nothing special – not that I expected otherwise. They’re already asking for platelets. I’m not sure I’m up to that, but I’ll give it some thought. I know it’s important.
Pond Guy begged to reschedule to Thursday, which has messed up my week’s plans but good. Oh, well, grin and bear it. Of course! Thursday will be fine! I just want the repair in my rear view mirror.
Dinner will be a London Broil on the grill with fresh corn and half a spud, I think. Peach pie for dessert.
My trip to the audiologist was a bust. We actually had checked in at the waiting room when I got the phone call to say the audiologist had been suddenly called away for a family emergency. It’s rescheduled for the 27th. Rats! Foo! And words of that nature.
To be perfectly honest, as long as they stay on the main floor of the house, things are currently unnaturally clean. So I won’t be bothering about what clutter does exist.
Before this state of unnatural cleanliness occurred, I mostly was of the “yes, our house is lived in, DEAL” mindset.
Although I will admit to having panic-checked the bathrooms at 4 am a month ago when my niece was planning a visit while I was at work.
(Relevant details-- my usual work schedule is 5 am to 1 pm. My niece is in training to be a medical type person. (Vague because internet, not because I’m unclear what kind she’s working on becoming). And I was pretty sure my mother was in the process of dying.
She has since passed, but during my brother’s visit during the dying process and during the visit for the funeral, he, his daughters and his wife (with some help from me) rendered the most public parts of the house unnaturally clean. Especially the kitchen related bits. I do hope to do a better job keeping up with the clean now than I did when Mom was alive and in need of constant attention. )
Well, the wife talked me into going. Big mistake. I just have no patience for nitpicky whining and bitching, especially about things that are to your benefit. Today’s award for stupid goes to the woman who doesn’t want to notify the front desk when she’s having a serious health issue because it’s her business. We have a system in these apartments where there are lanyards that when pulled alert the front desk. The front desk person notifies an in-house nurse who responds immediately and triages to see if an EMT is needed. I guess this woman would rather have us just follow the smell when she croaks. Anyway, no more of those!
Supper was good, as was the leftover ice cream dessert that was supposed to be for my mom and sister. Their loss!! Dishwasher is sloshing. Roxy is entertaining Otis. I shall soon assume the recliner pose.
Some years back in the retirement community, MIL had a rather bitchy neighbor, but despite that, MIL kinda kept an eye out for her since she had no family nearby. When two days passed without seeing her, MIL walked around her yard and figured out that the neighbor had fallen and had been lying of the floor for some time. Help was summoned, but the woman died shortly thereafter. Who knows how long she might have been there rotting if MIL wasn’t who she was…
Howdy Y’all! Mowage of the back yahd was accomplished. I just couldn’t maintain the energy to do the front, so that shall happen tomorrow mornin’ whilst OYKW goes to procure provisions. I was happy to shower and spend the rest of the day inside in the a/c. The snausage dawgs we et for sup were soooooo good! Now I shall see whatup on teh intartoobz.
I believe that’s the joke. (As is “Tell your wife I said hi.”)
Truth.
Isn’t it strange that boiling particular leaves (I’m looking at you, chamomile and mint, as well as standard tea) and gently sipping the hot liquid is something humans the world over have independently discovered/invented … and love it!
Ah, and hot cocoa. The number of steps to go from green beans to something remotely palatable to sip .. human ingenuity is amazing.
I haven’t had my cuppa tea yet BUT I WILL SOON. Meanwhile, I really wanted soup with a crusty roll, and since I have two rolls left, and one single chicken pho cup … well …
… plus the last of last night’s spinach dip.
Monkey whined himself into getting a bit of gooshy-fud, cuz he’s cute like that.
Meanwhile, we got a bit of a wee spot of rain (Brits, did I do that correctly?) and it’s still faintly drizzly but I strapped a very whiny Monkey into his jacket and propped the door for him.
Dunno if it was the blessed rain, or y’all shaming me, but I got a metric buttload of trash out the door AND did some bathroom cleaning. It won’t win any awards yet, but The Small Room is way better than it was, and I feel much better for having gotten that done.
My “treat” for tonight is finally sitting down with a book I ordered awhile ago, quite possibly on the suggestion of a fellow Mumper after mentioning the local turkey parade: Donna Andrews “Between A Flock and a Hard Place.”
I hope you will! I’m with you, shoe. Tea is comfort in a mug.
Good job getting after the cleaning! It’s so easy when we live alone and are really busy to let the rough end drag, but sooner or later, it feels good to get a little caught up on them. Hope the book is an ample reward!
swampy, I think you did great getting the back 40 mowed. I really need to get mine done, too. Maybe tomorrow.
Evening all. Sweatage is done, dishes are back where they belong and I am dirtying some more with a bowl of Mac-n-Cheese, so things will keep repeating in the Great Circle of Housework… Got an on-line meeting at 7:30pm to hopefully figure out this dratted soccer website(s). Outside of that nothing much doing for the evening hours.
Mollie, it’s human to feel nervous about taking a step where you have never gone before; but I am sure you’ll do just fine. And I try to keep my curses low-pitched, but I have to say that neighbor incident was hilarious. And my t-shirts usually go right into the dryer when I get home, not throwing something that sweaty in with my other laundry…
wet one, great news, I imagine Ariel will be happy, in an equine sort of way…
Cookie, hope nephew makes good use of the stuff, either selling or using them. And the meeting sounds like it was everything you imagined it would be (all bad).
Nut, I was told my first ever word I spoke when but a babe was ‘rats’ which was what my Mom said when things went wrong–it was the 1950’s and different age then…
Coppertone, hope they get the drip to stop.
FCM, so far if any of my youthful soccer players have uttered anything untoward, they’ve done it out of my hearing…or maybe I don’t hear so good… As for your MIL and the neighbor, I have to admit I worry some about hurting myself and nobody checking on me for days on end…one of the reasons I’m considering moving to an retirement-oriented apartment in the next couple of years.
Shoe, enjoy the read.
Bright Tree, as I’ve mentioned before, I watch a You Tube called ‘Girl With the Dogs’, she is a professional pet groomer and watching her deal with pet’s nails has been eye-opening. Hopefully Pond Guy will actually show on Thorsday.
And a butter pie?
Those sound…intriguing.
Knots, sorry the hearing aid trip was a bust. I’d raise a fuss but it would probably fall on deaf ears…
Eureka, welcome, I don’t think I’ve seen you about here, if you like the company please feel free to stick around.
My glasses are just fine and that’s how I read it, too…
And that’s all for now. Maybe more later, we’ll see.
I’d never heard of such a thing. { off to google }
Potatoes, onions, and butter?!?
YESSSSSSSSSS.
Well, the weather guessers guessed right, cuz it’s flippin’ pouring out there now.
My lemon and agave should be happy. I’m just glad I got the trash out earlier before the deluge, and that Monks came back in to lie about not getting gooshy-fud howl at me.
