Prepping for a visit in the MMP

“King Philip came over for good soup” has become very complicated these days.

My high-school biology class said nothing at all about gender. That was a topic for German class.

The health portion of 8th-grade PE for me.

Pretty cats! Lady SCAdian wants to get a cat that isn’t grey-scale – we have one grey-and-white, one black-and-white, and four black. They love to sleep on the folded towels in the loo.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s currently 76 degrees Ferret Height(24.444 Centipedes)

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 19c/67f with a predicted high of 22c/72f and cloudy. Weather app says “Stratus clouds are the shitbags of the fucking meteorology world. Trust me. I know my fucking shit.”

{{{{{nellie, daughter and cat}}}}}

Oopsie depending on the visitor, staying in my jammies may be perfectly acceptable!

{{{{{JtC}}}}} congrats on the upgraded PT exercises though, you’re obviously doing all the right things (alongside the wrong things!)

red I saw the pics on FB, that’s a lovely little family!

Moooooom sorry about the cancellation, but you get to enjoy all the yummy food you made, and you didn’t have to do any dusting. That’s a win in my book.

I spent yesterday’s irk hours catching up with stuff that had come in while I was away, including taking less than two minutes to fix something my Overthinker colleague involved herself in needlessly. It was something she picked up from a conversation she’d overheard in the office last Monday, and emailed me about on Friday (copied in my manager, and the senior admin on another team). The details aren’t important, just to say that it was many mountains out of something not even worth calling a molehill.

After irk, I fed the cats and had a bit of spare time before heading to the gym for the Monday night spin class. The usual instructor is on holiday so we had someone new who was very good, and (although I hate the music) the class was fun. I helped her put the bikes away afterwards and we had a chat which was nice. I got home later than intended but it didn’t matter 'cos 'im indoors was making dinner and had held off putting it in the oven for the final 20 minutes until I got home. That left me time to get changed, shove all my gym stuff in the wash, gather up the recycling and put it all in the biiiig bin before hauling that out to the kerb.

So far this morning, I’ve tended to the needs of cats, had a cup of tea and done the morning puzzles, read HCR’s daily letter, hauled the biiiiig bin back to where it lives, and made a second cup of tea. Productivity!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 78 Amurrkin out and mostly clear with a predicted high of 97 and sunny, but becomin’ partly cloudy mid-afternoonish. We are also under a heat advisory from eleven a.m. on. I need to accomplish mowage, so I guess that needs to happen once there is enough daylight. The rest of the week will be just as hawt as today will be although chances of rain increase from Thursday on. Next week will be a bit cooler, so there’s that, I guess. If I do that, the rest of the day will be spent inside in the a/c. Sup will be the snausages I spoke of Sunday (Vidalia onion/cheddar cheese) grilled and served on buns along with oven fries and a sallit. The sallit makes it healthy.

Mollie I have never had Yorkshire puddin’. One of these days I must rectify that. It just sounds so nummy.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

And I’m back on the intrarwebz, so welcome me back to the 20th century… I get the feeling the tech I spoke with last night may have blown me off, but maybe not. This morning, I used the chat function and “Felicia” got my new modem in their system so we’re up and running. It’s actually a modem/router, so the mesh routers I bought are now not used. I want to set a new password in place of the 12 digit default, but that can come later when I’m more awake.

Roxy will be here in an hour or so and since I don’t need to put her to work in the kitchen, it’ll be crochet day! And maybe other stuff - we shall see. The visit cancellation kinda leave me adrift - all my plans are pretty much shot. We’ll figure it out.

Meanwhile, I’ll surf, then figure out the password thing.

Happy Tuesday!

Seventh best day of the week!

I was in drive-up yesterday afternoon. A black squirrel carried I-don’t-know-how-many babies through. A couple of times, she flopped down on her belly in the shade, with a baby in her mouth. She was looking knackered halfway through the relocation process. Squirrels will often drink water that condenses from cars’ air conditioning and drips off while the drive-up member is conducting a transaction.

Zounds! I got up late, and I have a 10 am appointment with an audiologist. That will be another inch or two closer to getting my non-working left hearing aid fixed or replaced.

Gotta go.

251 years ago today, Paul Revere rode.

Good morning.

It’s partly cloudy and 58F. More of the same weather: AM clouds, PM sun, with a high of 82F. The chance of rain for Saturday seems to have evaporated, although some models still show a chance of precipitation :frowning: I miss the rain. We need some rain and it’s looking very dry for the next month.

VanGo, I hope you’re feeling better today. Your boss was right to send you home.

Chef, I hope you’re feeling better today.

Red, I loved the pics of the Nelson family.

FCM, yay for the return of the internet; boo on the cancellation. But you will have lots of yummy food to eat.

Metal Mouse, I’m glad your hard work at the gym and the calorie counting is paying off.

Mollie, dang it! Now you have me thinking I should make some Swedish meatballs!

As I predicted, I didn’t do much general housekeeping and plant care yesterday. Today will probably be much the same. I have an optometrist appointment early in the morning on Thursday and a hair appointment late in the morning on Saturday. We may go down to my son’s place sometime this weekend, too. Since I’ll be out and about on Thursday, I’ll probably head down to Lowe’s and Home Depot. I want to buy some flagstone-type rocks to use in strategic spots on the garden slope.

For today, it’ll probably be the usual general tidying, plant care, pet care, and that’s about it. Please take care of yourselves.

Morning all. Pills taken, breakfast has been consumed and dishwasher is doing it’s thing so the morning duties have been done. The rain last evening has cooled us down some, ‘only’ getting to 89F today. Have to mess around with the new soccer site, it’s a mess (IMHO) and has screwed up my training and coaching work by not transferring it correctly. Just got a new set of instructions from my e-mail, so hopefully that will get me officially registered. Someone (not here, more likely farther up the chain) decided that the ‘new and improved’ system was just the thing and forgot most of us were quite comfortable with the old process and didn’t see a need to change…or maybe I’m just an old fuddy-duddy…

Anyway, let’s see what’s going on in Mumper-land…

FCM, best laid plans…glad you are back in modern times now.

doggio, I sweat like that too, but it’s in a gym and I pay them for the privilege (they do provide showers, however).

Herald, remembered them all except Order, so the amount of fairly useless information in my brain seems to remain constant…

boo fae, sounds like Overthinker came up with the new system our soccer league is using…

swampy, not quite as hot here as last week, we’re barely making it to 90F…

Flyboy, fascinating what you can see outside that big window at the drive-up; I never thought of it that way. And so did Wiliiam Dawes, but Longfellow couldn’t get that to rhyme, so Revere got all the credit…

Knots, my right hearing aid seems to go on and off, I have my regular check-in early in September so I’m getting by.

And onward into the day. Y’all have a good one.

Good morning, folks! Once again, I slept through my walking alarm. I had stayed up rather late, transcribing my journal for my letter… and also capturing my thoughts is good.

I am feeling nervous and trepidatious about my endo appointment next week. But that’s also how I always feel about going into a new situation. I’m not dreading it, which is a good sign.

Tomorrow is counseling. She will not be able to compose my letter by then, but we will go over what will be included. Looking over the SOC-8, there is a whole crap-ton of qualifications that need to be included in a WPATH letter in order to begin medical transition. You can’t just wake up one day; say, “I want to be a girl!” and begin hormones[1]- despite what the terfs want you to think.

That is too cool… and Mrs Magill just shot it down.

Then Stan is wrong.

It sounds like the reward for all your hard work is… more, harder work. It’s probably not said enough, but good on you for sticking with your PT. That shit is hard, but so worth it in the end.

What a bunch of good pups.

Well, that bites. It sounded like you were looking forward. I say you pick up some ciabatta bread, and enjoy some chicken salad sandwiches.

… and now I want chicken salad.

swampy Good on Tom for making it out. I like the men’s group at church, but it doesn’t feel like my space, and the women’s group definitely doesn’t. Maybe I’ll find a place after my social.

Metalmouse - I measure my construction efforts in the number of cuss words required. Several years ago, in our old house I was installing some wall shelves in our garage. My next-door neighbor asked me to tone down my language. His seven year-old had just asked him what a GD, MFing, PoS was. Oops.

Unfortunately, my girlish figure is more of a stick than an hourglass.

Yorkshire pudding with roast beef and gravy is one step away from heaven. Last night, Squeaky complained that I didn’t make it for his birthday last spring. I reminded him that he needed to tell me before his birthday that’s what he wanted. It requires a couple of day of prep time.

Last night, during yoga, my instructor adjusted my stance a bit. I saw the momentary look of regret she had after touching my arms and almost immediately flicking the copious amount of sweat off her fingers. After power class, my space can easily be renamed Lake Magill.

  1. Actually - you can… I know a gal, but obtaining a prescription medication without said prescription is illegal and a good way to insure you never get said prescription. ↩︎

He might have ridden that day but it wasn’t his famous ride to Concord to warn about the British. That was April 18th.

… Paul Revere Day" is commonly celebrated as Patriots’ Day on the third Monday of April in Massachusetts and Maine. It commemorates Paul Revere’s historic midnight ride on April 18, 1775, warning colonial militia of approaching British forces before the Battles of Lexington and Concord. [1, 2, [3](April | 2023 | Blog | Gottesman Libraries | Teachers College, Columbia University today-in-history-the-midnight-ride-of-paul-revere.php)]

Shit. I think I conflated it with the 17th of August (me mind being elevated).

Pfft….easy to do. I only knew about it because I lived in Boston for 13 years and it is a big deal there. Any excuse to have a celebration and hoist a few.I even housesat the Paul Revere house a few times as a substitute caretaker. My ex was in an Architectural History PhD program at Boston University and we lived for several years in a different historical landmark:

…Built in 1661, the James Blake House is the oldest surviving house in Boston. Located in Dorchester’s Richardson Park, it is a rare American example of heavy timber-framing from western England….

Gawd, I loved that house! Solid and you could feel the births and deaths of those it had sheltered all those centuries, in a good way.

A good friend also in the program was caretaker of the Revere House and we filled for them when they were gone. It helped impoverished grad students get by~even fifty years ago Boston rents were outrageous.

On the 18th of April in ‘75
Hardly a man is now alive
Who remembers that famous day and year

Typed from memory so it might not be 100%

I can start riding Ariel this weekend! At a walk for 10 minutes. I’m so excited. I will continue to lesson on Jake probably until December.

Nellie I’m sorry about your grandcat.

It isn’t.

That was last night’s supper, using Aldi’s Asiago cheese ciabatta rolls.

Had a girl like that in my high-school class.

Would you settle for the 106th anniversary of the nineteenth amendment?

I sure will

Re: Yorkshire pudding

You take that back!

I still find it amusing that my Italian FIL was so amazed my this “exotic” meal I served one Christmas.

It was ungodly hot again. i did the usual retapes and clerking. Smalls is back to holding all stuff they can’t just scan, and sending at the end of sort for us to fix. Which takes time. Retapes and damages weren’t hideous. At least if you consider shoving a 98lbs mattress back in its box and taping it and shrink wrapping it “not hideous”. It felt cool when I got out. And you know the building’s hot when 90F and sunny feels cool.

Everybody feels that was till The Invisible Mole People attack.

Give it a cool name too, like “TellYourWiFiSaidHi”.

Mrs. Magill is a Herbert

I’ll drink to that.

Well, I’ve decided to give all of my remaining woodworking tools and work bench to my daughter’s son to do with as he pleases. Use them, sell them, I don’t really care anymore. He has his own business doing car detailing and I know he could use the money. I would suspect there are a couple thousand dollars worth of tools sitting in her garage that have been gathering dust and rust for the last three years. The bench alone would likely get him $800 or more, as it’s handmade. Sorry to see it go, but it’s of no use to me.

Nothing much happening today. There is an all-tenants meeting this afternoon, but I likely won’t go, as nothing is ever accomplished there. I know: I’ll vacuum out the air purifiers!
