Pro Football Talk Hits a New Low

Mike Florio turned his football blogging hobby into a paid gig with MSNBC. He’s a big Favre fan and was noticably bummed about this year’s NFC championship game.

He’s so bummed that he’s posted a story today quoting Saints’ Defensive Coordinator Gregg Williams out of context. Williams does say that part of the Saints’ game plan will be to hurry Peyton Manning and collapse the pocket and put a hit or two on him. He does not, as Florio says he says, indicate that he wants his D to injure Manning.

Awful blog; awful reporting. Wonder how it’s stayed up most of the day.

What do you football fans think?

Meh…Florio is a good source for information, and a laughable source for opinions. This story contains two of his standards --" it sounds like…" and “In other words”. Florio (and Rosenthal, to a lesser extent) take stories and add spin. If you look through the spin, you either find good stories or non-stories. Wanna guess which one this is?

I’ll take non-stories for $1,000, Alex.

Still, it’s frustrating since Gregg Williams is such a good defensive mind and a really nice guy to boot. His foundationpays for a lot of good projects in the town where he grew up. He’s improved the Saints’ defense. He took a big chance on Anthony Hargrove. He seldom gives interviews and crap like this makes it less likely that he will in the future.

dude relax… its florio… i enjoy his blog but i understand that mike is NOT a journalist… G williams is a great d co-odinator… only question is will he get another shot at a head job?? i’m inclined to look at buffalo as a train wreck and less on his back…

Too bad then that NBC put him under their umbrella. If it’s not journalism it ought not to be hosted by a media site, that or they should have disclaimers.
