Project Runway 9/27 - FINAL FOUR, BABY!

Remember that guy who got kicked out earlier in the season for having pattern books under his bed? Wasn’t it Jeffrey who turned him in for cheating?

I believe it was Kayne that blew the whistle on whats-his-name.

Was Michael’s dress so entirely hideous that it can’t be seen in public? Rate the Runway just shows me Laura twice, and when I get to the page on Tim’s blog that would show it, I get an error message. Can someone link me to a pic of it?

The Project Runway site is always useless the day after a new episode. Too many people trying to see the same pages, I imagine.

Here’s a link to photos of the dresses:

Yeah, you’re right, Encinitis, it was Kayne.

FYI – Keith was the designer who was kicked off.

Personally I wasn’t that impressed with any of the dresses last night. Even Michael’s failed to wow me, which was a first as I’ve loved all his stuff. He’s still my pick to take it all, though.

The reunion next week should be good. At the end of his podcast Tim said he needed a few days to distance himself from it. “It was a lulu”.

I really wish I could tell (just to see his reaction) Jeffrey that his dress looked like something Angela would make. It looked like some pajamas I once bought at Lame Giant, er, Lane Bryant.

Does anyone know how long there was between challenges? I ask because Laura sure seemed to start to show quickly. She didn’t have any noticable baby bulge at the beginning, and last night she was showing prominently.

Speaking of Laura and her offspring, does she see her five kids on the weekends? Or has she thrown them all on a pile and abandoned them for the run of the show? Does she get time off from the show to get prenatal care?

She mentioned in one episode that she was going to the doctor that day, so they must have given her time to do that. At the beginning, you only have to go once a month, anyway.

Posting late, just saw the ep. I was really worried Michael would get auf’ed, even though his dress was infinitely better than Jeffrey’s. I’d rather there be a Final 4 with Michael among them than a Final 3 without him.

The skirt of Jeffrey’s dress looked like a lampshade. I do hope he realizes he is skating by on the Santino Factor now and not on his “talent.”

As for the collections for Fashion Week:
I am shocked and appalled to be saying that I don’t like Michael’s collection. Those big outside pockets on everything? Hideous and bulky. Gold lame bikini with sequins? Plunging necklines on everything? Some of the outfits are downright skanky and in bad taste. Really not what I expected. I hope the stills are not doing them justice, but I fear the worst.

And this is even worse for me to admit-- I liked Jeffrey’s. I dig those stripes and I think he showed a softer, sexier, more romantic side than he did on the show. This is the same thing that happened to me last season with Santino. I often thought the stuff he sent down the runway during the season was crap, but his collection blew me away. But I liked Santino a hell of a lot more than I like Jeffrey, so this is far worse for me to admit.

Laura’s and Uli’s collections are exactly what I thought they would be. Let them stand or fall on their merits and the judges’ whims, I guess.
Me, too. I had assumed Uli would get the boot this week, but bless her heart for pulling that dress out of nowhere. I don’t know that I agree that Michael’s dress was better than Jeffrey’s, but I think that overall Michael has been better than Jeffrey. (How did Jeffrey describe Michael’s designs? “Average” or something like that, I think. But still better than Jeffrey.)

I missed the whole first part of the season, so I care less about the reunion show, but I still love Tim. If our love could stand a chance, I’d marry him in a heartbeat.

I don’t want to marry Tim as much as I want him to adopt me. Can’t he be my uncle Tim? Then he can just pop up whenever he feels like it and I will be happy.

I have to say, I absolutely can’t wait for the reunion special. Who the hell is Vincent calling an amateur? What is up with Keith and his persecution complex? Could Jeffrey just shut the hell up about Angela’s mother already?

Also, Vincent’s “amateur” comment has me thinking: You know who probably never went to fashion design school? Who we all know has spent much of her life on a career that has very little to do with fabric or sewing? Who arguably has not had very much free time to keep herself in sewing shape? Laura. Incidentally, Laura has only really made two missteps (design-wise) on the show. Her garments are almost universally impeccable, beautifully finished, never EVER glued. Her design sensibility is very distinctive, but never “out there” (she certainly would never earn the nickname “Captain Haldol”), and will probably sell quite well should she start her own collection (and she really should). I don’t always like what Laura does, and I’ve rolled my eyes at her deep v-necks and high-waisted skirts too. However, she is the one person in the final four who has probably only ever sewn for herself, her friends, and her children. She doesn’t have a line out already. She doesn’t work in fashion. She is the “amateur” of the bunch.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that maybe Vincent should be a little more “amateur” in his choices. He’d do a lot better that way.

I swear to God, Restoration Hardware used to carry curtains made out of the EXACT fabric that Jeffrey made that dress’s skirt out of. It was about 4 years ago, so I can’t find them online, but seriously. The exact same. I know because I really wanted to buy them and looked at them often.

Rubystreak, I hate to admit that I agree with you. Not that I do not want to agree with you, per se, but the content of your spoiler!

I am going to have to defend Jeffrey a bit, not as a person but as a designer. I will say that he has a penchant for making terrible stuff, but I also think he does push the edge and take more chance. I think he has that certain designer ethic, which is to puch the envelope, take risks, explore the possibilites and push fashion forward. Compare that to Laura, who I think is a great dress maker and not a great fashion designer. Yes, she made the one Kathryn Hepburn outfit, that looked like it was straight out of Hepburn’s closet, not fresh. I mean she is safe, uninteresting, unwilling to see what is possible. I compare Jeffrey to Dave Kingman, strikes out a lot, but also hits Home Runs. Laura is Rod Carew, singles hitter, gets on base, playes it safe.

And when you think about fashion week, where do rank these folks in terms of what you think they are capable of. Honestly, I put Michael first, becasuse he has both te designer ethic, the risk taking, the “ooh” factor, as well as the taste and style. I would then put Jeffrey, he has it in him to create an exciting runway show, fresh and interesting, that creates some elctiricty. I would also rank Jeffrey as the most likely to be a disaster on the runway, he is all or nothing. Then Uli, she can be very innovative … with prints, so she has a definite ability to create something wonderful on the runway. And last, IMO, is Laura. I have no belief in her ability to create anything more than a line of pretty, sophisticated, well-made dresses. But is there any chance she goes to fashion week and creates a buzz? In my mind, no.
