All the collections sucked, frankly. Very disappointing.
Chloe as winner? With that collection, hollow victory. Even the judges didn’t seem into Chloe as “the next big thing.”
I saw the Season 1 finale the other day. Surprisingly, Jay seemed like a really cool guy. Either his or Kara Sahn’s collection would have blown any of the three today out of the water. No contest.
I liked a few pieces: Chloe’s featured dress was very nice. But a sad finish to an interesting season.
I only get to watch this off and one when I happen to catch reruns while at work since I don’t have cable at home. There was a marathon on today so I got to see a few I had missed.
I am glad to hear Chloe won. I would have been happy for Daniel, too. I thank the powers that be that Santino did not win. The couple of episodes I caught today had Santino in the bottom two each time, getting worse comments from the judges than the other person and still he got to stay each time. I think I’ve seen other shows where he was in the bottom two and got a reprieve. I can’t think of any reason for them to have kept him over the other person except for the “drama”.
My single favorite piece in all three collections was Daniel’s white coat! Simply gorgeous. I think the fact that his model couldn’t walk in that brown gown with the long train that tripped her up worked against him. And those handbags??? Tim Gunn was correct: they should have stayed missing.
Santino’s stuff was all over the place! What was that thingie with the big poufy sleeves??? Quite frankly, his collection looked better in the still photos that were on the web rather than on actual walking, moving women.
I liked Chloe’s collection. I thought it was elegant, mature, but too dressy. Nothing there for me, certainly, but her seaming was elegant and unusual. I think she represents the show well, and I’m pleased with the judges’ choice.
It’s like they all switched styles. During the show, Santino was way over the top. For the finale, meh.
Chloe was meh, during the show, but her finale was stunning.
Daniel’s creations during the show were mostly stunning. For the finale, most of the styles were things you can get in Wal-Mart.
I loved the white coat also.
I haven’t seen the show, but I looked at the collections on the website, and I liked most of what Chloe did - especially the structured pieces.
Most of Daniel’s stuff didn’t actually seem to fit his models. And if his collection can make the ass of a 14 year old heroin addict look fat, imagine what it would do to a real woman. I did like some of it - the white coat, and the wrap sweater with the ribbon, for example - but a lot of it just looked bad up there.
Santino had some stuff that was really, really nice. And then he had the mennonite domme dress.
Daniel made Banana Republica clothes. Plain and simple. I hope they give him a job because that is the same shit I buy for work.
Chloe totally made 80s couture. I’d seen the collections ahead of time so when I saw Charlize Theron’s shiny shiny shoutout to Dynasty dress at the Oscars the first thing I thought of was Chloe’s collection. I loved the dress on Grace, the rest I thought was kinda meh. Actually, the Grace dress was pretty much the Theron Galliano dress stripped down without poufy bow.
Santino made gorgeous gowns for youngish starlets. I like the top over the knickerbockers. Call me crazy but I loved his self-indulgent song track. Santino to the last. There was another pale pinkish gown that I liked.
Overall, not the way I felt about Jay’s collection last year but there were pieces out of everyone’s collection that I adored.
Chloe: grace dress
Daniel: I could wear most of his collection ('cept a couple of the pants) and I am by no means a size 0.
Santino: some of the simpler lined dresses, the skirt.
I loved the last dress of Santino’s, the multicolored one his normal model wore. That was gorgeous! Daniel’s white jacket was great. I want one of those! Chloe’s stuff was meh to me. It was all sewn right and looked fitted, but I couldn’t stand all the heavy shiny monochromatic pieces. That first poufy thing? What was that!? I guess I can see why she won (everything looked well made and she sold her business sense well on the runway) but it kept reminding me of 80’s prom dresses.
I was kind of surprised that the judges didn’t like Santino’s because he had toned it down, when all throughout the season they had been telling him to do exactly that.
Yeah, I remember that because it was the only thing I liked out of his lingerie collection. I love those pants, though, because they were so big when I was in undergrad. Every girl in Montreal was rocking them for a while.
It was strange. It seemed the final 5 this season were good enough to beat the folks last season, during the run of the series. But when it came to Fashion Week, last year’s finalists and Austin (sans Wendy) blew this year’s trio out of the water.
It all felt anticlimatic. There had been some terrific work during the series but the finale was lackluster. I think Santino should have won it, though. I didn’t like Chole’s line. It was too much of a flashback. I guess that’s Houston, Texas for you. Everything is big. Big hair, big sleaves.
I don’t really know what to say. Chloe’s clothes were well made but so Dynasty. Plus, she’s never going to be more than a local designer; she’s already said she doesn’t want to do the New York thing. She will probalby benefit from the Banana Republic internship.
I was really rooting for Santino. Yeah, he’s an ass but he’s interesting. But it was true that his collection didn’t feel very cohesive. I hope he finds success tho’.
Dnaiel V, meh. Nice tailored clothing, not very interesting. But he’d do great working for Michael Kors who has the same aesthetic.
I would’ve like to seen what Andrea could’ve done. I think it would’ve been impressive.
I just watched the bonus video of Kara presenting her collection at the show (here). I liked it better than any of the other three! She had a cohesive collection that was interesting and diverse. Groovy, and good for her. She was clearly delighted to be there, even knowing she was the decoy.
I guess of the three, there wasn’t a clear forerunner for me. I liked Santino’s better than Daniel’s, which surprised me, but compared to last season, there just wasn’t much cohesiveness or daring. Jay and Kara Saun did interesting things with unique visions. Didn’t see much of that here. Santino’s music was hilarious.
The thing is that I could pluck my favorite pieces from each collection to make an all-new 13-piece collection, and no one would be able to pick out which design was from which designer, for the most part. Boring.
I didn’t really see the Japanese in Daniel’s collection although I thought the military influence was patently obvious what with all the buttons. His shirt dress looks almost exactly like a button down shirt that I bought off of Blandana and they listed their inspiration for that season as military. Same quasi-epaulettes and everything. Here’sa version of the one I saw. Last season they made it with a collar. God they’re lazy. Roll over the screen and check out the beigey gold colour (that’s the colour I was thinking purchasing).
Also, did anyone think Daniel’s dress was remniscent of the fugrosity that Amy Adams was wearing at the Oscars, same gross colour and front patch and everything? Amy Adams
How do designers replicate each other’s looks like that? Is there some designer buzz out on the street and they design around that buzz?
Tim Gunn in his blog basically dissed Chloe’s and Daniel’s collections and said Santino should have won (but said also that he was glad Santino didn’t win, as that would make the show “Project Freak Show” because two freaks in a row would have won).
I was really disappointed that Santino didn’t win – I thought his dresses were gorgeous, especially the two in that beautiful green/peach shimmery gauze material and the bright red one with the leather bodice. And the freaky leather “mennonite domme” (hee!) dress – LOVED it! It reminded me of something out of H.R. Geiger, and I thought it was awesome. I’m glad Nina told him he belonged in fashion.
Chloe’s line looked a little better on the runway than it had on the hangers, but I still thought some of the pieces were ugly. I really didn’t like the backs of some of her dresses with, like, the strips of fabric going from neck to butt (the back of this dress had it, for example), and I hated the two gold dresses. Ugh, '80s prom dresses indeed.
Daniel’s line was, at first look, unimpressive, but I think it is true (as the judges pointed out) that he showed a great range in the kinds of pieces he was able to produce, which is very nice. I felt really bad for him up there on the runway at the end – he looked so depressed and exhausted.
After seeing the collections, I could live with either Santino or Chloe winning.
I was really disappointed in Daniel. I really thought he’d have something special to show. What he brought was okay, but not special at all. It was stuff you can find all over. There were no major misses in his collection (other than those purses), but the only thing that really stood out was the white coat, just one piece. Plus, as beautiful as that coat was, I can’t say it was unique or original. I’d wear his stuff, but I think I already wear similar stuff now. I wanted to see something new.
I didn’t like Chloe’s, but it’s just not to my taste (all that shine, all those shrugs–yuck). She did have her own look and her stuff was impeccably tailored. So, even though her stuff didn’t appeal to me, I was okay with her winning. I am happy for Grace because she was my favorite of the models.
I loved Santino’s collection (well, other than that nasty black top thing). Some of his outfits were striking and, while they were toned down from his earlier work, they were still unique. He did have some fit issues, which is a shame because the designs were really special. I was okay with him not winning. Between him and Chloe there were two vastly different looks, and hers was better executed (even if not something that appeals to my taste).
Going into Olympus, I thought Santino was the weakest. By the end, I thought his collection was the strongest. I really loved every single piece he did and if I could have, I would have worn any of them except that weird leather thing, which was cool but not on me.
Daniel V, who was my favorite, really fell down in the end. I knew when Rebecca tripped that he would not win. He’s still really young and I’m sure he’ll succeed in fashion without this Banana Republic internship, though he has a bit to learn, esp. about handbags.
Chloe’s collection really did nothing for me. It looked like my prom in 1989, revisited. I was surprised at how much the judges loved it; it was like Bizarro World.
However, despite my personal preferences, felt there was no way that they’d give Santino the victory, considering what a pain in the ass he was all season. Daniel was too young and inexperienced to win. Chloe won by default, and I guess I figured that would happen. Kinda disappointing, since I felt Santino had finally took all the judges’ criticisms to heart and then got screwed for doing it. Ah well.
