Project Runway Season 14

Oh, Ashley. I liked the moto jacket and it fit the challenge great. But “a circle skirt and crop top”? And I know you’re overwhelmed, but of all the fabrics to choose?! Shame on the judges for encouraging that – talk about a look that’s been done before. And I really want to root for her!

Given the challenge, Edmond was the right winner. Natasha’s had some good ideas and then she went a little nuts for a ready-to-wear look.

Relieved that Tim did not save Laurie.

Looking forward to Tim losing it next week!

Yeah, Ashley is completely falling apart – second week in a row she’s chosen fabric really, really badly. I hope she pulls it together because I’m rooting for her also.

I’m guessing Swapnil is the recipient of Tim’s “why the hell are you even here?” rant next week. I hope so. That leopardskin thing was tacky as all hell.

I was good with Edmund’s win, though I thought that if the decisive factor was sellability, they might pick Ashley’s jacket – the women who want Edmund’s dress will really want it, but there’s a far greater array of styles that would work with the jacket, not just hoochie mamas.

And I don’t think there was any chance of Tim saving Laurie – she had her second truly godawful week in a row. She was given “modern classic” and made a completely backless dress? No one in her alleged target group would ever wear a backless dress, esp. one with a see-through front.

And it was see-through because it didn’t occur to her till the model asked that a bra showing would be a problem.

“When they tell you about the challenge, are you listening?” Classic Nina, and right. Laurie thought she was going to whip out a sheath dress and then it went to hell and she thought a sheer organza was her salvation?!

Yeah, that is exactly why I adore Nina.

I think they are propping up Ashley who is indeed falling apart, I assume due to tiredness and stress. Her jacket was cute and well made but the fabric she chose for the rest of the outfit was awful.

Swapnil was such a favorite early on and now “they” have turned on him. I have no idea what his life is like back in India but if he has a successful company there, it could be he is not taking the manufactured reality drama seriously and since the purpose of the show is to FIND AMERICA’S NEXT TOP DESIGNER, the producers would not like kindly toward someone who thought the whole enterprise was a joke. Which it is.

Nina cannot even hide the fact that she hates being there. Does she have a contract she can’t get out of, or something? She always looks like she is smelling something foul. What a bitch.

Why are they lowering themselves by associating with JustFab? which is nothing but a shoe of the month club and a complete scam.

“Edgy peplum”? As no one said, ever.

so why was the tight leopard print dress tacky and the tight red dress not a cliché?

Also a cliche – and I didn’t think it should win – but skintight and red is merely a cliche, while skintight and leopard print is tacky.

What an unexpected season this has turned out to be. I picked Swapnil and Ashley early on for final three, that was clearly wrong. Ashley is in complete meltdown – I’d’ve expected a dress that unflattering from a designer who hates dealing with real women, not from her. God that was ugly. She was lucky not to be sent home. Don’t think Tim would have saved her.

It’s looking like Tim may not use his save at all this season. I’d be okay with that. No one has deserved to be saved.

I thought Kelly’s overalls were stupid – not Auf-ably stupid, but not deserving of the win. OTOH, there wasn’t anything that was deserving of the win. What a lackluster group.

My current pick for final three: Edmund, um, and two others.

Yeah, last night was a dud. The overalls were passable but nothing special. Natasha’s was remarkably tacky and overworked.

I agree with you about Swapnil – I thought he was a clear finalist. I don’t understand how he could have a company and runway shows in India and create so little in this competition. And choose such boring fabrics! That tied thing in the back of his caped shirt was cringe-inducing. (Even more frightening was Ashley buying that blue in combination with the hideous print she chose.)

Merline’s vest “fashion forward”?! Meh.

Ashley, again, of all the fabrics in Mood, that one?!! It struck me that with her fabric and style choices, she could do toddler/little girl clothes. Ashley, just think about what you would want to wear to a wedding and even just make that. I felt really bad for that woman who just wanted a nice flowy dress and got an 80s Garanimals look.

I wish they had aufed two. Or more!

I was so sure they were setting up a double Auffing of Ashley and Swapnil and then the manufactured drama of finding out which one Tim would save. Like twickster I had Swapnil and Ashley picked out early for finalists and I personally thought Kelly? Girl George anyway would be an early Auf. Just goes to show that even the most boring season can be unexpected in some ways.

There is no one for whom I’m excited to see a runway show. Has anyone peeked at their collections, which I think showed last week or maybe the week before? I never do but instead wait for the finale. Also how many decoys were there? I don’t dare google it in case of seeing a spoiler.

So Tim finally got Swapnil voted off. All they had to do was pair him with an unhappy production person who was instructed to be vague and obstructive: Long sleeves. Not those long sleeves. Not those sleeves either. What? You made a shitty top in 2 hours?

But let’s pair Kelly with her production equivalent: young, peppy, fun, and recreate her work outfit in pleather and not mention that it is a day-to-evening look.

Ashley has hit the wall and then the wall hit her back. She is FRIED. They lobbed her a softball this week but she couldn’t catch it. Also she has terrible taste in prints.

Merline can hack away at that jacket all she wants but she still can’t sew. The facings hanging out like that were disgraceful.

Candace was also given a gift, the nearest to a model they had, and she turned that poor girl into a cheap hooker. She should have been the one to go home. That outfit was a disaster, she kept adding more layers of leather around the edge. It would’ve been funny if it hadn’t looked so awful. Edmond should have just focussed on the raincoat.

There have been controversies before, Gretchen over Mondo, Anya’s last minute Mood trip win, but this is the first one that was instigated by Tim and it was against a designer who’s been pleasant and unfailingly polite to everyone. As much as they tried to show his “laziness”, all they could really show was a couple cigarette breaks. Not very convincing but they sure made Tim look like an overreacting idiot.

Are you seriously suggesting that Swapnil’s departure was orchestrated by Tim and/or the rest of the staff?

Why are you assuming that the client was assigned to be obstructive, when Swapnil clearly said “you may think you want something demure, but I know better and I’m going to make you a bombshell dress” (paraphrase)? She was quite consistent – she wanted sleeves, and he wasn’t adding them.

How do you show someone being lazy? Serious question – if it took him a day and a half to make the first dress, which he himself agreed was ridiculous, he was obviously screwing around doing something else – but how do you shoot that and portray it on film?

I don’t know, I think Swapnil’s been upfront about not giving 100%, and a whole day to make a simple wrap top? However, I will say that Tim specifically said that although they should listen to their models, this was a contest for the designers. I think if he’d just said to her, “Look, you just have to wear it down the runway. Let me do my thing.” And the judges vote on what they see - those sleeves were wrong and it was tied in the back. I like having the judges able to see the outfits closeup.

I would’ve preferred to see them draw model names out of the button bag. Ashley shouldn’t’ve been stuck with the plus-sized model just because she’s fat.

I didn’t like the fit on the pleather overalls and didn’t like the tank underneath them. Ashley’s fabric was just so wrong I was yelling at the TV while they were in Mood.

I liked Edmund’s raincoat. I’d wear it. However, it seems to me his model looked bigger in his dress than she did in her own clothes.

According to this article, Tim went to the judges and lobbied to have Swapnil aufed. He doesn’t name names, but it couldn’t be more obvious who he’s talking about. Tim hated Swapnil for some reason. There has to be more to this story.

Swapnil made 3 outfits with sleeves, she didn’t like any of them.

Yeah it was clear that Tim really disliked Swapnil when he snubbed him at the end when telling him to clean up his space. He didn’t have any kind words or encouragements or hugs or anything, like he always does. I don’t think he even looked at him.

They talk about PR being superhard work and I get that, but it’s doing what you love and I just don’t get what has fried her. I guess her insecurity and second-guessing herself all the time?

Interesting article.

Tim claims herethat there was no producer interference (if a Tweet can be considered much of a claim). StGermain is right, though, models should have been assigned by button bag for fairness.

And Honey, the first dress – the leather wrap dress – didn’t have sleeves. (Did it? I’ve been knocked out by the flu the last two days and don’t trust my memory at this point.)
