Season 8 starts shooting soon, and they also just got an order for a further 8 episodes, bringing it up to 16. But here’s a potentially problematic obstruction, Maggie Lawson has been cast in a comedy series for ABC. If that gets picked up and runs, she may be written out of Psych. She can probably balance the two with some juggling, and who knows if the ABC show will succeed, but it kind of bums me out anyway.
He’s real, he just never got picked up and given to Lassie Sr. Hopefully he wound up with a nice family.
I hope they get over Juliet grimacing every time Shawn touches his temple pretty quick. It’s already tiresome.
I don’t remember seeing Chief Vick
They seem to have really cut back her screen time this season (not that she usually gets much). I there have been a couple of other episodes this year she wasn’t in either. She was all over the wedding episode, though.
This weeks’ episode was good I thought. I thought Shawn getting a plaque was a dream at first. I also like how they’re handling Julies’ problem with him lying to her, it seems she might be coming around.
I think it’s fair to say that the Chief knows Shawn is not on the level about how he gets his information. I think she’s probably known the whole time, but accepts it as he gets results, her not knowing how the results come in just mean she has plausible deniability if something comes up in the future.
That’s the thing; as a viewer, I knew that the character was faking it, so I don’t get Juliet’s negative reaction. As you said, he’s able to solve cases even without “real” psychic abilities.
And I like the reference to The West Wing in this week’s episode.
I’m having trouble accepting that Jules would ask him to fess up to Chief Vick. Well over a hundred criminals would be out in a week based on the illegal searches Sean did, and all the rest of his questionable investigative work. She has to know that as a detective. Also having trouble with the chief’s reaction to what she heard as gross failure to follow procedure.
I know, I know, it’s a lighthearted comedy, but they’ve shown both female characters as smart and by-the-book.
I’ve been patiently waiting for that as well. Just some throw away dialogue would satisfy me. There’s also the issue of his Dad not saying anything about it, even after being reinstated.
I took that seen completely opposite of how you did- and I think the long hold on Chief Vick’s face after the tongue lashing and the extra grimace/nod/tic solidified my opinion in my mind. So my thoughts:
-earlier (last season) there was a scene in which Chief Vick sends out the troops for a rushed emergency and finishes with, “Shawn, go and do whatever it is you do.”
-she has also encouraged whatever means to Shawn at other means
-she is quite smart and probably knows from working with Henry that Shawn had an incredible gift and lots of potential and he had been throwing it away, she may even have known Shawn from a distance as he grew up
-she said that they had another way to convict the murderer through the confession and thus didn’t need to report the illegal search
and thus I think that Chief Vick knew what Juliet had requested Shawn to do the moment Jules stepped into her office. She doesn’t “want to know” that Shawn isn’t really psychic, even though she already knows, in order to keep her plausible deniability defense alive, but more importantly be able to keep Shawn doing his methods even if he is often outside the law. Thus she gives a very verbal warning that shows that she doesn’t support this type of behavior which she knows Juliette will follow exactly and that Shawn will ignore completely. I think Chief Vick has been shown to be a great leader and know her troops well- and that seen was perfectly in line with both.
I’m pretty sure Woody is a tru-believer.
This is how I saw it as well. The Chief knows Shawn is bullshitting them, but knows he gets results. She did say they had a confession so didn’t need the information to convict. I’m sure she knows that if it did get out a lot of other convictions might have problems. I think they’ve handled it well.

Gus, let’s just be clear on one thing. The only way they can absolutely prove I’m not a psychic is if I tell them. And I can guarantee you that is the one thing I will never do.

Chief Karen Vick (Kirsten Nelson): Heard about what you did in there.
Shawn: Oh, you’re welcome.
Chief Vick: That wasn’t the phrase I was going to use. I was going to say, “Improbable. Possible. Yet unlikely.”
Shawn: It’s hard to explain. I’m gifted. I was born that way.
Chief Vick: I knew your father. He was a good cop. You’re nothing like him.
Shawn: I’ll take that as a compliment, ma’am.
Chief Vick: Don’t ever call me ma’am.
Shawn: Am I still free to go?
Chief Vick: Not exactly. Are you familiar with the McCallum family?
Shawn: McCallum. Yeah. They own half the hill.
Chief Vick: Well there’s been a kidnapping.
Shawn: Oh come on. I had nothing to do with that.
Chief Vick: Would you like to? The feds are itching to jump in on this case. What I need is a miracle. Or a facsimile of one.
