If losing at pub trivia makes the guy pull out all his hair, maybe he should just stay home.
Well, for those that are keeping score, Elvis beat us again. In a game of 45 points (there were some multi-point questions), we got 34, they got 36. It’s nice to be close, I guess.
I also wanted to post a scouting report. After work and before trivia, I stopped into the Old Pequliar to ask about their trivia night.
It’s Tuesday, just like the George & Dragon. They have twice the questions though: 8 rounds of 10 questions each. 2 rounds are ‘picture rounds’, which the bartender didn’t define precisely for me. The quiz runs from 8 to 10pm, as will all the other places.
Entry fee is $5 per team, with 5 people maximum on a team. The entire pot goes to one winner, with no second prize or anything like that.
The menu looks fairly good, though I have not eaten there. It is a trifle more expensive than the G&D, with most meals falling into the $8-$10 range. They have two happy hour periods, from 3-6pm and from 10-midnight, so you can get cheap drinks after trivia to drown your sorrows in after a loss.
I think it’s definitely worth a tryout one of these weeks.
As discussed last night, I’m very up for trying out the Old Pequliar, or indeed just about anywhere else. I’m getting kind of tired of the George & Dragon. I’d like to pretend it’s not because we keep losing, but I suspect it’s because we keep losing. And it’s really crowded.
I look forward to returning to the Emigrant, actually. Ah, free Monday nights, how I miss you.
By the way, we must have consistently misheard the Olympics question, because I was right – this year’s Winter Games start 2/10 and end 2/26. But I swear John asked when they’ll start, not when they’ll end.
Sorry we didn’t make it either night. Hubby has a cold (now I have a cold) so we didn’t want to infect everyone. Maybe next week.
So, anyone up for the Emigrant tonight? I am, and it’s been waaaayy too long since I’ve made it to trivia, so I hope some others are, too!
I’m gonna try. I know, I know. Heard it, never seen it, but I’m really going to pay attention. What time? I seem to recall 7:30 from somewhere.
Hubby may come too.
Is a quorum required at the Emigrant? Maybe I’ll bring my darts.
Trivia starts at 8:00, and I don’t remember if there are any requirements as to team size. It’s more fun if there are more people, though, partially because we have a better chance at winning!
Anyone else? Saltire? inkysplotchy? Ague- and Lady Cheek?
If we don’t get a couple more “for sure” people by… say, 6:30 or 7:00, I think I’ll pass (nothing personal, picunurse! I just don’t want to end up being the only one there. And I have other things I really should be doing tonight, but I don’t want to).
(why, when I put non-bolded question marks in between bolded text, does it look like I’m typing in Spanish?)
Hubby and I are going to be there for sure. I’ll bring my darts, in case he and I are the only ones. I e-mailed Anastasaeon, but she’s worse than I am. (to her credit, she’s shy.)
I hope it isn’t a bust, the one time I remember!
They aren’t upside down… so … Is the a test? Spanish grammar isn’t one of my trivia strengths!
I went to the Emigrant. The waitress canvased all the tables loooking for the “Straight Dope” folk. Finally she put me in foster care with some nice people, odd, but nice. We didn’t win.
The questions were hard. I got a few right. One, I got right, but my foster family disagreed. After they found I’d been right, they were nicer.
Maybe next week, or… tomorrow?
I had fun, and I’m probably hooked.
I’m sorry I left you to foster care! When I got home, I had a bunch of messages waiting for me about this retreat I’m in charge of this weekend. I was hoping to get through it all in time to make it, but didn’t. Was actually up way too late working on it all evening.
I’m out tonight, but I’m hoping against hopes for next Monday.
I’m out tonight too, but wouldn’t mind trying the Old Pequliar on some future Tuesday. I like the G&D, but it certainly is crowded.
I’m in tonight.
And I vote for giving The Old Pequliar a whirl. Here are the details, from Saltire’s scouting report:
I can be there by 7:30, perhaps a tad earlier. It’s in Ballard: 1722 NW Market St. Phone: (206) 782-8886
Also, they serve tacos.
Anyone else in? Or are people heartset on the G&D?
I’d be up for a go at the OP (that’s what Ballardites call the Old Pequliar). I could be there quite early to secure seating, as we have no idea how crowded it may get. I’ll try to be on-site around 6, and may be there even earlier.
Of course, I can do the same at the George & Dragon if people would prefer to stay with the tried-and-true this week.
Sorry I didn’t check the thread yesterday. I was kept away from my computer most of the afternoon and evening, and didn’t expect any Monday enthusiasm. But I hate to disappoint eager players.
I didn’t see this thread pop up at all yesterday. My apologies to stargazer and picunurse!
We’ve been leading a rather hectic lifestyle for the past month or so, and were talking last night about how we haven’t been to trivia in ages. Tonight’s one of our few evenings off this month, so Lady Cheek is currently debating whether she’d like to go or just go home and sit for a while. I’ll let everyone know.
I’m in tonight, thoughI’ll probably be there right at 8, so if we’re right at 5 people, if someone could give me a call and I’ll just go home and renew my loving, caring relationship with my ice pack.
If by “someone” you mean “my brother with the cell phone,” consider it done.
I really, really don’t want to think about this…
Just talked to the boss - we’re in.
To confirm: We’re trying out the Old Pequliar, right?
Also, we’re up to 6 attendees, assuming picunurse is in. We know Cervaise is out. So, inkysplotchy, you can either attend tonight and we’ll play with two teams of three, or you can stay home and wine and dine your ice pack.
If picunurse is not coming, of course, it’s moot. Declare your intentions!
