Me too. Getting up at 5am and it’s a long day here too-14 hours up or until the last voter in line is processed. I am back at my home precinct after working other precincts for a couple of years so I’ll have a chance to say hello to old friends and neighbors (lived in this neighborhood 41+ years). I take a good book and enjoy the few breaks there are. Mypolling place is in the community meeting rooms in the basement of the City/County Public Health building a few blocks from my house.
Vegetarian chili is in the instant pot, and the house smells wonderful.
Squeaky got his flu and Covid shots today. When Fang seventeen, he could show up at the pharmacy for a vaccination solo. Not anymore. I had to run there, so the pharmacist could give him the shots. She greeted me by (my given) name and talked about her son, so I figured she was a Band parent. Turns out I was right. Good thing I decided to get my estradiol through Express Scripts.
I forgot who it was, but a Mumper mentioned pistachio ice cream a lil’ while ago, and last night getting all the quiche stuff, I saw the only/last pint of H-D pistachio in the case. It even had its back turned, so I had to spin it to see the flavor.
I figured it was a sign from Ye Olde Gods Of Lore.
Tried it just now.
Whoever you are, THANK YOU that’s { mmmph } some very ( oh, numnums } tasty { ehrmehgawd } stuff.
(whispers quietly into freezer: “It’s okay, coffee and double-chocolate chip. I still love you.”)
Thirty seven years doing this job and I just had a first: I am at a vigil for a woman who was killed in a traffic accident in a tough area in SE DC. About a hundred people here.
I found her adult son and asked him to talk with me on camera. He wanted to have family near him so he yells
Howdy Y’all! As promised, the day has been one of high RDOS sloth. I did manage to haul the neighbor’s and our biiiiig trash cans all the way up from the road to where they stay and did go to the mailbox. However I stayed in tshirt and jammy pants all day. The big effort was to make sup. OYKW did the cleanup after sup. Plus, we have leftovers for tomorrow. He also told me I shouldn’t return home before five p.m. on Sattidy so he’d have time to clean up after the orgy he’s throwin’ while I’m gone. I told him I appreciated the heads up.
Sticky_Buns hope the doc OKs the knee replacement. Conga rats on the weight loss!
Coppertone back when I traveled for irk, I would buy those Penny Press puzzle books to entertain myself in airports and on planes. I always enjoyed 'em.
MOOOOOOM I love dogs and after my much beloved cocker spaniel Jake (aka Bobo) died in 1997 I swore I’d never get another one and haven’t. JoeDawg the chee-hoo-ah-hoo-ah was not mine, but I was his nanny. His own dad swore JoeDawg loved me more than him. Well, I think I was the only person JoeDawg never attempted to bite.
Knotty I knew a couple who always had a crossword puzzle set up on their sun porch. They would buy 'em from garage sales, thrift stores and such. It was always a thing for anybody who visited to put a few pieces of the puzzle together.
Herald Hekyll Island would be perfect! Maybe it wouldn’t be as expensive as Jekyll Island has gotten to be. Haven’t been there in a long while due to it bein’ so pricey these days.
FlyBoy hope you don’t get too much of an owie from the trip. Never fun to start the day that way.
Mollie vaccines tend to do that to me as well. I always make sure I have nothin’ I need to do or anywhere I need to be the next day. That sucks about the HVAC, but not a big surprise what with the Orange Felon and all.
shoe you must feel so secure knowin’ you have Monkey to protect you from strangers. My first house had a window in the bathroom over the shower/tub. It was a small window, so I could see the 'hood whilst I showered but the ‘hood could only see my haid. I sometimes get some pistachio ice cream just for myself. OYKW won’t eat it so acts hurt cause I bought it. I have reminded him that he is a grown ass man and perfectly capable of buyin’ ice cream he likes.
Nuts here’s your for adultin’. Say, “I am passionate about beer and rat food money, so I will be an excellent addition to your company.”
Lily I think that is a reasonable request to make of your guest. Maybe S-Cat does not like the smell of loud beast and would be more amenable if she didn’t smell it.
Dicey do you mean a corporate dinner does not include rubber chikin or shoe leather beef? How can that be!
Cookie I am sure that will resolve the spoilage problem. I can see how easy it would be to bump the thermostat when reachin’ for and removin’ stuff.
Oopsie and BBBoo hope tomorrow goes as smoothly as possible. Again, thank you for volunteerin’ to be a poll worker. Of course, you’d get better tips if you were a pole worker.
2gig so sad about the vigil, but “meet me at the white guy” gave me a giggle.
It seems someone drove their car into my next door neighbor’s ditch. I stepped outside briefly to see if I wanted to help, but it sounds like some serious inebriation is involved. It’s about a 3’ deep ditch right at the side of the road, drainage for the neighborhood, it ducks into a culvert at my driveway. They have a “helping pickup truck” and much arguing.
Hey everyone, GREAT NEWS! All the fucking spam calls will be over tomorrow!
So today was foggy and drizzly and gloomy. Perfect day for a funeral IMHO. James is with his wife now and family and friends are on their way home.
James was very prepared. Folks out this way still buy large upright granite headstones and the one he bought for his wife already had his name and birthdate, all it needed was his death date added. The headstone company was able to come out before the funeral and finish the carving per Jame’s written instructions. The cost was prepaid years ago.
He had everything written down and didn’t have anything as far as money or property was concerned, so settling everything seemed to be simple and painless for his sister.
After the funeral, I drove to Virginia and bought some weed. Just because.
We have windows in our bathrooms but also had timer switches installed because bathroom ceiling fans left unattended can be a fire hazard. (I like sitting on the toilet and looking out at the trees. Our last place I just looked out over our gravel covered yard, but that was nice too.)
It appears that the miscreants, as the brits would say, scarpered. Cops showed up, but by that time the helping pickup was gone, along with all people. Leaving a forlorn car in the ditch. Now I’ve got a light show and a tow truck is attempting to get the car out.
Evening all. Back from the gym (sitting in the whirlpool for 20 minutes after a couple of hours treading and cycling is heavenly). Also picked up my team roster for the tournament and decided instead of driving in 5pm traffic an extra 2-3 miles to Mickey D’s, I’d stop at the Burger King on the way. But they were out of French Fries (unheard of!! Inconceivable!!) So ended up with a Big Mac (and Fries) anyway. That plus a little snackage has replaced most of the calories so feeling fine.
I think I mentioned last week that I could not find Oscar Mayer Braunschweiger at the stores that were carrying it, so I have bought several other brands (Kroger store brand, Jones Farms, and John Morrell Braunschweiger and will conduct in-person testing in the remainder of the year to see if any of them is a adequate replacement. I’ve been eating the Oscar Mayer brand since I was a pre-teen and it’s going to be hard to switch, but might surprise myself (at least I hope so) and fall in love with one of the others. The experiment will begin Wednesday.
And as usual for Moanday, lots of reading and discussion to get through, so here I go…
I’m enjoying reading about all the puzzles the rest of you do, I am pretty sure it helps keep my brain working fairly well (unless it’s when I’m packing for the gym and have to come back in the house from the car for something I forgot).
Taters, trust mowage was accomplished, I need to get to it this week, but rain is forecast for tomorrow night into Wednesday, so it’ll be Thorsday at the earliest.
I understood that reference. And now if they had a airport for old Heinkel bombers…
flyboy, hope the fall didn’t hurt much.
wet one, best wishes for Ariel.
Not for things per se, but I do call the meteorologists Weather Wizards and thank The Great Goal Gods when my soccer team scores (or the other team doesn’t).
Mollie, HVAC work is never cheap, in my experience, I do not have a heat pump but sympathize with the estimated bill you got. And glad the two youts are properly vaccinated.
shoe, I have a big window right next to my bathtub and looking straight at the terlit, but it is ‘frosted’ (or whatever they call windows you can’t see through) so no worries there. The second bathroom has no windows at all. And I’m sure Dad will enjoy his card. And since you don’t hear it much, Ya done good, woman! And not a fan of psitachio ice cream, but just finished 1/3 of a pint (only 200 calories) of Butter Pecan, which is my biggest weakness (they even have full-fledged pecans in it).
Nut, I know a little about procrastinating too, and writing things that say ‘yay me’ isn’t one of my talents either, but one must do what one must, so just sigh, sit down, and git started job hunting.
V’ger, it sometimes takes me 2-3 days, usually before I head to bed, to do the 7x7 Ken-Ken, it can be diabolical.
2gig, probably not politically correct, but I had to laugh anyway.
Cookie, glad the mystery was just turning a dial and nothing too expensive.
Oopsie, glad WifeBFF is (presumably) OK and Husband BFF is out of the horse-pital. And my great thanks to you (and BBBoo too) for all your working on election day. Just confirmed my voting location, I’ll do that sometime after breaking fast tomorrow.
FCM, now you’ve got me thinking about Texas Roadhouse and they aren’t on the Sunday agenda for a month or so, but will be thinking about it anyway. Enjoy your friend’s visit in a couple of weeks.
swampy, hey, hauling Two trash cans back to where they reside is a lot of work for us RDOS folks. Don’t blame you for resting the balance of the day.
VanGo, probably wisest to let dumb (and possibly drunk) drivers to their own devices. Wonder if the cops will stop by…and I see in your later message that leaving well enough alone was the correct option.
JtC, RIP James. My parents had a similar stone, Mom passed away 9 years before Dad but the only thing needed for him was the year he passed.
Coppertone, you will see and we will root for you.
And that’s all, folks. Need to watch a couple You Tube Channels (one called The Try Channel which features some Irish people trying things is a particular favorite of mine) and then see how the tackleball game is going. If I don’t get back, see all y’all tomorrow.
Oh, that’s going to be noisy for a while. We used to live on a corner by a stop sign. Someone would run the sign and end up in a ditch or hitting another car and we would be up all night. Who knew running fire trucks were so LOUD?
Yeah, that’s gotta be something to brag about for years!
How very considerate!
I have words. I will not say them but I’m thinking them very loudly.
Thank you both so much for being there. You do very important work and it is more important now than ever.
If I knew how to spell I would be great at crosswords. I get the clues (I always did the logic problems in our variety books) but those dang vowels always tricked me.
Another busy-ish day for me. We started the day around 34Ferrets and are currently hanging around 50F. Looks like freezing overnight temperatures are largely out of the forecast for the rest of the week. There’s rain, but not excessive amounts.
Puzzles: Like many here, give me the wordy ones! I daily try to play Wordle, Strands, all 3 NYT crosswords and Spelling Bee. For the crosswords, I try to do Minis in under a minute, Midis in under 5 minutes and regular crosswords as follows: Mondays, under 10 minutes, Tuesdays, under 15 minutes and Wednesdays, under 20 minutes. From Thursday on, all bets are off for how long they take or if I even finish 'em. I work on Spelling Bee intermittently throughout the day and may or may not finish it.
Taters, thank you for the Death Chicken recipe in the last MMP! When you wrote it out, I remembered that I had previously seen it with the Mumpers’ recipes. I’ve made a similar recipe and it’s good. You got swampy onboard with it!
swampy, enjoy the Death Chicken and the RDOS sloth! You don’t want to risk your RDOS cred!
Sticky Buns, that’s wild about your weight loss causing such problems for your ankles. I hope you are able to get the surgery you need sooner rather than later.
Dachshunds will do that to ya. Tina is a great name for a dog, btw! And good luck with the Braunschweiger taste competition!
< swat >
Good luck with the job hunting, Nut. It does suck. I swear, half the criteria is just whether or not you can take the BS.
Glad you found the answer to your milk spoilage problems, cookie! Did the new Le Creuset arrive as anticipated?
Hippie, I wanted to add my praise to that of others for your gorgeous quilt! The colors are stunning and the whole thing just screams, “craftsmanship”. You’re a very talented quilter – I hope you know!
Oopsie, you’re making me miss working elections. Only I’m pretty sure things have changed enough since when I did it that I may not feel that way if I was actually participating these days. I hope everything goes smoothly and you’re out at a reasonable time – understanding how long those days are. Good for you for doing this important work! And same to BBBooo, too!
That’s pretty funny.
JtC, my condolences for James. We should all be so prepared and ready. Doesn’t ease the hurt you’re feeling, though. Big hugs to you.
After taking care of some work this morning and getting Ollie exercised, fed and pottied, I took off for another lunch with a friend. She and her husband have been exploring independent senior living and we had a good talk about that. I like to think I’ve got years before I need to worry about that, but it doesn’t hurt to be prepared. I’d like to end up somewhere near friends, so we both appreciated the discussion.
Lunch was really a late breakfast, and I splashed out on a Durango Scramble: Bacon, green onion, mushrooms and cream cheese in 2 scrambled eggs with hash browns and sourdough toast on the side. Dinner was a bowl of Cheerios. I guess it was a Breakfast kind of day.
Then on to the bank and to top off the gas tank for around $35, which bought a mere 7 1/2 gallons or thereabout. < jealous look at metal mouse >
Ollie has a pedicure set for tomorrow morning and then I’ll get my computer fixed some more in the afternoon. Sure hope my guru can get the audio device working again. It’s always something…
He wanted his desktop computer wiped and moved to the rec room for the other inmates to use for arcade games. He left written instructions with all the steps to wipe his comp to his satisfaction and then restoring solitaire.
I’ll keep bringing the inmates raw toast a couple of times a week, its a bright spot in their day and helps me keep my starter fed and happy.
In other news, our catsitter’s dog got loose and ran to our yard. Hub’s evil plan worked, dog knows that Hubs always has treats so came here instead of running down the highway in full dark. (I’m sure glad I saw silly dawg sniffing at our fence, she’s a Nelson sized fluffy brown dog, not easy to see when its this dark.
Halleluiah! The unending spam calls, texts and commercials from both Tennessee and Texas candidates are getting old (I still have some TN specific channels listed on my Roku, so, ain’t I lucky to get crap from both states). I’m sorry about James. Even when prepared for it, death still leaves a hole.
Agree. (Tina was my childhood dog, and I got to name her.)
… bread?
Texas AND Michigan here, and boy howdy this El-Sayed thing has been generating opinions, man.
Planning to vote once I’m up & about for the day. (I went to bed stoopit early by my current standards, so my usual mid-sleep bio break is happening at 4 a.m. and I plan to return to SlumberLand shortly.) S.M. already told me that if the lines are ridiculous, I have her advance permission to show up.late for work - voting is more important.
