Cupcakes all around!
Evening all. It tried to rain on soccer practice but it was so light no one noticed it so we had a pretty good workout, I gave my Assistant coach some gifts (soccer-related) since she won’t be there Saturday and then came home to the usual 2sDay Stouffer’s Mac-n-Cheese, so things are well. Rain is expected in some quantity late tonight and through tomorrow, so glad things are done. Temperature is still 68F so the cooling trend predicted for the end of the week is still holding off.
FCM, a hippo-birdie to FCD, albeit he probably spent most of it with the boat…
shoe, I tend to follow the commentary on the SD Politics thread for it, with occasional glances at the NY Times coverage.
Lily, that’s a great shirt, may have to add it to my collection of gymwear (just browsed the site, there are several interesting ones there). And was at the Sagrada Familia this past April, quite a place but the entrance is so foreboding my first thought was “One does not simply walk into Sagrada Familia” (of course not, it costs about 26 Euros…). I’m sure our Lego folks will be watching out for it.
Dicey, yeah, sometimes the crossword makers can get lazy and repeat themselves, other times they mention something/someone who is simply not on 90% of people’s radar…you does your best. And Churches should have learned about candles now, it’s only been 2 millennium, for God’s sake…
Taters, lawn is going to get very wet tonight and tomorrow, so mowage is going to have to wait.
red, sorry the pic line remains, at least you have a end time set.
Van Go, hope legs get feeling better (and stronger).
And time to go check on the election status. Have a good evening all.
In my version of idiotic management decisions, 2 new employees have not been given a key to get into the building for work. We have a full staff meeting on thursday, and I am tempted to ask the executive director why she made this decision. It would be the most exciting thing to ever happen in one of these dreadful meetings.
I’m already on icy relationships with her, but I don’t know if I want to go that far, calling her out in public. I really can’t be fired cuz the department would crumble if I wasn’t there…these are the things I think about after a few glasses of wine.
I may just go with “Why do these guys have to knock at the door to go to work?” I’ve already ruffled feathers in the organization and acquired a nickname as the shop goblin.
FCM don’t be upset, it has happened to me, probably more than once.
Had my riding lesson today. I rode Jake since he was inside and it was pouring so I didn’t wanna go out in the pouring rain and get my own horse. Jake is rather round so putting his girth on is kind of like putting a belt on a beach ball. We did our warm-up then my instructor Emily put us into a trot. I kept feeling like my left foot was not in the stirrup. As we were rounding a corner I said I need to work on keeping my heels down. Three strides later I yelled Emily the saddle is slipping. Then I was on the ground looking up. Fortunately, Jake’s trot is pretty slow. But he is tall, at least 6 inches taller than my horse. I landed on my hip and stayed there for a few minutes catching my breath. Then I got up and said to Emily I’m not riding anymore today.
I put Arnica on my hip, sat on an ice pack. I took Advil at the Barn and just took ibuprofen. I’m gonna be stiff tomorrow but nothing was broken. Jake didn’t do anything wrong, I didn’t do anything wrong, it was just one of those things. But I had to have a brownie to make it all better.
P.S. I wear a helmet and protective vest when I ride.
I’m sorry I missed this. My job does not allow me to keep up. My condolences. ![]()
I hope that you aren’t too sore from this.
Sheesh, it’s still 70 F out there, and even perpetually chilly Grandma Co-worker is still in a short-sleeve shirt.
I had to take Bob to the vet today to deal with his incessant paw licking. He was going at them constantly. He’d be laying on my bed licking at his paws and it would soak right through to the sheet. He has his own towel now. He had even licked a few sore spots in his pads that had been making him limp a little.
Anyway, the good news is that he is very healthy; clean ears, bright eyes, healthy coat, strong heart. The bad news is that he’s allergic to something around here. Whatever it is, it hasn’t really been bothering him for the last seven months or so - just this last month, mostly. The vet gave me a prescription for prednisone for him which will treat the itch, but it’s only about a month worth of pills. Hopefully that might be all he needs. Or he may just need to end up on the prednisone a couple/few times a year. I hope so, because Apoquel, the med-du-jour for allergies is like $140 a month. The prednisone was $18. He was a good patient.
The biggest bitch I had was his nail trim. She cut one of his nails so far into the quick that he ended up bleeding all over his blanket in the car and I had to spend a half hour with him out in the driveway applying pressure and cleaning him up. In the driveway because he was pooling blood all over the garage floor. Here’s the thing - I’ve done dog nail trims and I’ve cut into the quick and it sucks, so I wasn’t pissed at the tech for that. It’s just that, holy shit, she cut that one waaaaaay to short and then sent him home with me before she had the bleeding stanched at all.
Apoquel is great, but if you need to dose Bob regularly, I suggest you try Zenrelia. It targets the same receptors as Apoquel but it’s a lot less expensive. The reason it’s less expensive is due to a truly stupid and unscientific study that was done that showed, briefly, that Zenrelia inhibited the effectiveness of vaccines for dogs. That study has been pretty thoroughly debunked at this point. I have Ollie on daily Zenrelia, and he’s doing great.
red, I’m sure sorry about the longer time with the pic line. That is one stubborn infection.
Hang in there, lady!
Wish I had stamina for more, but I’m whipped tonight. It’s been a busy day, and it started out with me being sick out both ends simultaneously for a couple of hours due to a medication change. It has eased up now, but I still feel like dog vomit.
Hugs all around till later!
I saw a job posting today. ‘Case analyst’, or something like that. It paid, like, double what I make now. I mentioned it to Mrs. L.A. because we saw a commercial about pet insurance, and the job provides pet insurance. I told her I wasn’t interested in the job because it was with ICE. She said, ‘If you took a job with ICE, I would not only leave you; I would divorce you.’ Yeah, ain’t gonna consider anything connected with ICE.
We’re watching election coverage on CNN. (This is something Mrs. L.A. would never have done in the past.) We’re encouraged. I even had a dram of Ink & Thistle single-malt Highland whiskey (from Trader Joe’s) as a small celebration of Democratic victories.
Just got home from being an election polling place worker and counting ballots. Even though supposedly 21%+ of our voters early voted, we had the line waiting to vote out the door all day, nary a break of voters coming in for over 12 hours. Biggest surge I’ve seen in 20 years of working elections when it wasn’t a presidential election. Two women got in line more than half an hour or more before we opened and many of today’s voters waited in line an hour when usually it is at most a couple of minutes wait.
Could he have picked up some fleas between his toes? Poor Bob.
I hope you’re feeling better by morning.
Holy cow! I’m doing the happy dance. My votes for both senator and governor have been called as winners. In (not so) ruby red Texas. We will be sending Talarico to Washington and have our first Latina governor. Still waiting for other races to be called.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s currently 54 degrees Ferret Height(12.222 Centipedes)

Spot: “Oh. My. God. You have killed Mr. Skitters! He was my play friend!”

{{Mr. Skitters}}
Tis a bright sunny morning, laundry is on, waiting for my supervisor to see what can be done about being allowed back on the computer. The defilthifying I procrastinated on yesterday needs doing today, cos I’m away for the weekend and I don’t want to come back to chaos. I think I’ll need to come back to a place of calm and serenity after spending 2.5 days being a climbing frame for tiny screamy people.
Sounds like a lot of people are gonna have hangovers this mornin’ over your side of the pond.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 78 with rain predicted this afternoon. OYKW will go to the sto’ this mornin’ to procure a few provisions. We don’t need much this week. I asked him what snacks he had in mind for the orgy. He said it would be catered. I do not want to know exactly what a catered orgy would look like or be. I shall begin packin’ for my trip to large and in charge Brunswick, Jawja. Other than that the usual RDOS sloth will prevail. Sup will be the leftovers we didn’t eat yestiddy. John Ossoff (never sure if I am spellin’ his name right) won re-election to the Senate from Jawja and in a big surprise, Keisha Lance Bottoms won the governor’s race. I have to admit that one surprised me a bit even though I voted for her.
WetOne OUCHIE! Hope you aren’t too sore today.
JBats poor Bob! Hope the prednisone helps with his itches and that his paw isn’t sore today from the too short nail trim. :: skritches :: to Bob from Unca swampy.
BrightTree hope you feel better today!
*BBBoo sounds like a loooooong day! I have seen reports of long lines at the polls pretty much all over the country.
doggio hopefully Spot will survive the shock of seein’ his play friend Mr. Skitters murdered in such a horrific manner.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 9c/48f with a predicted high of 11c/51f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Cloudy with a fucking chance of not giving a shit.”
metalmouse I’m sorry you weren’t able to get the product you normally have, perhaps one of the alternatives will surprise you (in a good way!)
Nut good thing you found the spoods before they came in for a snuggle!
Mooom hope your insides have decided that was enough excitement for one day!
VanGo yay for successful PT! As for the new employees, are they still in a probationary period? If so, they may not get the keys to the kingdom until their employment status is finally confirmed.
flyboy Mrs LA is wise! Taking a job with ICE would not earn you any respect from elsewhere ![]()
Yesterday was a busy day, I made sure to log off on time and went to sort out campus food before I went to the gym. I found out that the guy who runs the kettlebells sessions only works two days a week in my gym, and he’s changed his days so he doesn’t work there on Tuesday. They haven’t got anyone else to cover the class yet, but didn’t let anyone know, and didn’t take it off the weekly schedule. Words were had with the assistant manager…
Went home, got tidied up, had dinner and watched some tellybox stuff before bed. Tonight I’ll be out with friends so that will be fun. I have two meetings today, first one was a team meeting during which we announced one incoming secondment, one person leaving, and one other person going on maternity leave in the spring. If the maternity cover comes up as a secondment, I might apply for it as it’ll give me a break from line-managing Troublesome Minion

Spot’s little buddy revives and blasts out of the watery grave to exact vengeance!
The fire alarm went off just before 6am this morning. I had just turned over and checked the clock. Got the cats in the pram and headed out. Got to the 6th floor and the alarm stopped. So we decided to leave the stairs. The all clear was announced and waited for the elevator. 15 minutes later we started up the stairs. After one floor I decided to try for the elevator again.
The elevators still weren’t working. Koritza got sick in the pram. She does get motion sick. A neighbour helped me get them up the stairs to the 10th floor.
Just now the alarm went off again. I’m not moving. I’ll shower soon and get to the office.
Plus it might end up being a much shorter term than anticipated.
Not being partisan here - I’m so glad that Elon was not able to buy all the elections he financed. I hate that $$$ seemed to have become the determinant and it’s good to see that the almighty dollar may not be that almighty. Campaign finance rules need to be fixed. (Yeah, like those elected under current rules will want to change them…)
FCD stayed up till after 2 to watch the returns then got up around 4:30 for reasons. He came back to bed around 6:30 and before I came out, I adjusted the curtains to keep it as dark as possible. I hope he sleeps - I suspect this election cycle was harder on him than I suspected. Maybe he can relax for a bit.
Starting with 49 Ferrets, heading into the low 70s. I’m going to drive John Deere around the back yard again, trying to stay ahead of the leaves. Plus rain is forecast tomorrow and Firday and I don’t need an accumulation of wet leaves. And I may finally get the bulbs planted - you know, the ones I was going to do last Saturday, and Sunday.
Otis is a goof. FCD sets out his breakfast every night - a bowl of kibbles with a Denta stick sitting across one edge. Otis will take the stick outside and eat it, then eventually come back in and eat the kibbles. Routine used to be kibbles, then come to me for the stick, which was always on my desk, but now he has a new routine.
I made my Thanksgiving menu and associated shopping list. I need to work out the prep/cooking schedule. One bird will be smoked on Tues or Weds before, and the other will be roasted on Thurs. The timing for the sides will be determined so I’m not running around like crazy on Thurs. Most things can at least be prepped a day or two ahead and cooked/warmed the day of. I also want to minimize any kitchen “help.” Daughter will make her ridiculously rich smashed spuds, and my friend Val asked if she could bring something - I may ask her for a secondary dessert since not everyone likes punkin’ pie (can you imagine???)
And so the day begins. Sorta. I didn’t sleep much either, so apart from mowage, it’ll be low key. Oh, and I heard Ziva horking last night, so I need to check her little corner of the world. Good times!
Happy Wednesday!!
Well, that was a heartwarming start to the morning.
i do believe even Lil Miss won’t be able to get under my skin today.
No doubt. Send restorative thoughts, please - we got work to do, now that we can!
So. Many. Jokes.
Too early in the morning to pick just one.
Whole lotta upset tummies around here - mine joined the party yesterday morning, and I had to drag myself to the polls[1], before collapsing back at home to recover enough for work.
Feeling much better today, and now with my mental health buoyed up, too, life has definitely improved in my little realm.
May everyone’s tummies cooperate, everyone’s headaches be brief, and the weather where you are be to your liking today.
I’m so glad I did!! ↩︎
Nut - I have an apple seed question for you.
My usual evening snack is a Gala apple with peanut butter. I cut the apple in 6ths and trim out the bit of core in each slice so Otis can have a treat. I’ve noticed I can have anywhere from 0 to 8 seeds per apple.
What’s up with that? Seems a wide variance of something very basic. I don’t know if other apples display similar seed counts since I just buy Gala. Is it indicative of something, or just one of those random nature things?
