Well, my vote has been cast upon the ballot and we’ll see how it plays out. Didn’t take long, no line and no problems checking in, but there was a steady flow of people coming in and the parking lot (which is relatively small, maybe 35-40 cars worth) was full and spots were being taken as fast as they were emptied, so looked like there would be a good turnout. Lots of signs and 2-3 people waving them around, but nothing raucous.
red, may the pic line be no more!
doggio, sorry, no Clarks running but we did have a State Senate candidate named Rudolph Valentino Drake and if I was ever going to acquire a sign…
Nut, so you can’t get in your system but it’s the main way to contact the people you need to get you back in and they’ve taken away your access to them…yep, that’s some catch, that Catch-22…
Just got back from voting and doing a couple of other errands. No probs at the polling place. Badgered my kids about getting off their butts and voting, so my work is done.
I really like voting. It gives me a feeling of belonging to something much larger and carrying on a tradition that is meaningful. I also appreciate the monumental work by many, many people that goes into putting on an election.
Mrs Magill and Squeaky just got back from the Radiologist (up the road - NOT in Downtown Nashville), and they stopped at the McCallister’s on the way home, bringing me a French Dip sandwich and a loaded baked potato. My belly is quite full.
I’m supposed to close with S.M. tonight and I know she’ll be watching the updates, though of course we won’t know anything definite until tomorrow at least.
Doing crosswords helps with spelling, since you can check yourself against the crossing clues.
I assume you mean jigsaw puzzle, though I’ve know a few jigsaws that assemble into crossword puzzles. My puzzle table is set up in front of the TV. All puzzles donated to the local library for their sale goes through me for checking.
MIL wouldn’t vote. She hated politicians and she didn’t think it mattered because “They’re all crooked!” So I just said “Uh huh” and changed the subject. She’d made up her mind and that was that. I don’t think she was even registered in Merrylande.
Back from Food Lion, the trip ending unpleasantly. TMI - enter at your own risk. As I drove home, my gut was making urgent noises. I got into the garage, out of the car, and up to the door to the kitchen when I realized there was nothing I could do. Clenching was futile. So I skittered to our bathroom, tended to the immediate mess, then turned on the shower and cleaned me, my unders, and my jeans. All the while thinking about what I’d do if this had happened on the cruise. I’m not sick - not even feeling queasy. It was just one of those things, probably as a result of stuffing myself last night. My system forgot how to deal with me overeating.
The car is unpacked and groceries are stowed. FCD asked about a funky smell in the pantry, and I knew immediately that it was the Yukon Gold spuds. I should never buy a 5# bag, but you can’t buy just a few at a time. Dammit. So I double-bagged them and tossed them in the can in the garage. ick.
I think I’ve had enough excitement for the day. Definitely not going to walk Otis as I’d considered.
Thank you everyone for the kind words. I will indeed miss James. He was one of the most thoughtful people I’ve ever met.
He was a life long Democrat who thought that JFK was the greatest president that ever lived. He bragged about voting in every election since he turned 18. He didn’t vote in this one. He was concerned about dying between voting and election day because that would bring shame on the party.
Usually homemade bread. When I started my sourdough journey my results weren’t exactly spectacular but it made good toast. The old farts at the home like anything homemade but are exceptionally vocal about toast with cultured butter.
I hope your line wasn’t too long today. Don’t most states actually require employeers to allow their workers time to vote?
That must have been so helpful when the time came. I should think about our final resting place, I don’t guess funeral homes can just scatter the ashes over some grass and be done with it.
Have you ever gone out and tried to look in your windows? Its a whole lot harder than you might think if you aren’t in touching distance. I try to look in windows when we are out on the two-lanes and can never see past the window sill or couch back.
I’m proud of her, its hard to put yourself out there like that and she just stepped right up to the plate.
WV had an proposed amendment to require ID to vote. I voted NO! We already have laws on the books for that, stop pandering to racism!
I voted when early voting started, but cruised by the polling place just before lunch. There were many signs for local elections, and one lone “Stop the War! VOTE” sign off to the side.
I stopped getting WV spam the day after I voted, but AZ was relentless.
We got cheated! They used our cafeteria so we all had/got to eat our lunches in the playground.
Yes, I hope its out as I type.
The fuzzbutts have a heavy porcelain fountain. It has a wide bowl so George can splash around without pushing it against the wall.
Not really. Usually the cross clues define words I can’t spell either. I used to have a friend who was a good speller but didn’t read much so I’d tell her the words and she would write them down. We ruled the classroom cross-word puzzle competitions together.
So I’ve been watching the local election news and then checking on AZ. Bright Tree, I do hope your folks are staying safe and dry, there is a whole lot of flooding happening. Rivers have enough water to overflow their banks and the culverts are overfull.
Our last place is fine, just a big mud bog for a front yard. The place before that is in a small neighborhood that is currently cut off from everything, and the place before that looks like it has wet floors
Oh, almost forgot…yesterday the Yavapai County suit in charge of elections put out a statement telling people that this is a MIDTERM and that President Trump is NOT on the ballet, your ballet hasn’t been misprinted.
My grandmother loved crossword puzzles, but it always seemed to me that it was stacked in favor of those who do crossword puzzles. A lot of the clues are for obscure words that my grandmother even admitted that the reason she knew the answer was because of how many crossword puzzles she did.
The big church in Luzern left lit candles unattended and had a fire Sunday evening. Fortunately not much damage, and no injuries. The city of Luzern has now filed a criminal complaint against the church, alleging negligence for leaving a lit candle in a wooden candle holder.
Voted weeks ago. As I have only voted by mail, I have never gotten a “I voted” sticker. Some of them are rather cool.
It’s Switzerland. There will be pork, and there will be cheese. Either Raclette, Fondue or Sbrinz.[1] Or some combination thereof. Maybe some Emmentaler, since we’re in the Emmen valley.
{{{JtC}}} I’m sorry about James. I feel like I should raise a piece of raw toast in his honor.
Went to the gym and did my thing. I made an apple crisp on Sunday, so I have to work on that, plus some Luzern Rahmkäse (a semi-hard cheese, not a cream cheese, despite the name). Because cheese.
I go past the Sbrinz maturing warehouse every day I go to work. ↩︎
I just finished with weed whacking, mowing, and blowing the lawn and surrounding areas. I also raked up a bunch of heavy leaves and put them in yard waste bin, too.
I could definitely fit more leaves in the bin, but between heaving heavy bags of lawn soil, and raking the heavy, wet leaves on the steep slope, I was a little spent. I may go out there in a little bit to spread the lawn soil, though.
I also pulled some weeds and rearranged where I store my Gorilla wagon and some other things.
For now, I’ll take a bit of a breather.
I received an “I Voted” sticker with my mail in ballot, but I didn’t wear it. I have voted in every election since I turned eighteen, with the exception of one or two mid-term elections. Back when we still voted in person, I took my kids with me to demonstrate the importance of voting. They still remember that.
Well the PT seems to be helping with the back, by moving the pain to the legs. My hamstrings and thighs are really sore from the movements she gave me to do. Another appointment on Firday.
Hippo birdies, FCD!
I voted on Sunday, so’s I wouldn’t have to deal with it today. As they say in Maine Goooo Blue!!
Howdy Y’all! Laundry got laundered and put where it stays until it gets dirty again. Also, we went and got shorn and then went to the not too shabby Chinese hog trough buffet for lunch. We will eat leftovers tomorrow. Nappage and day drinkin’ also happened. It’s been rainy off and on all afternoon and sounds like it has started up again. Hope it rains all night. I loves me some rain to go to sleep by!
MOOOOOOM you cradle robber! Happy Birthday FCD. I am five months and four days older than OYKW and so must endure cracks about bein’ a cradle robber untl we are the same age again.
red appropriate/inappropriate appendages crossed re the cussed pic line removal. I see now that it didn’t happen. RATS!
Mollie I shall remind you once again, Mrs Magill is a keeper.
JtC I did indeed mean jigsaw puzzle. I just keep gettin’ closer and closer to the home! Yes, the pre-arranged funeral was very helpful. OYKW and I will have our ashes (cremains) interred in the memorial garden at the church house. The columbarium slots are paid for and there’s even a copy of what will be the memorial services on file at the church.
Up from naptime. Dinner is a Manhattan, steak, baked **N.O.T., and asparagus. Plus cupcakes. Watching hockey.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY FCD!!!
And I love the Otis shaped rug pic on FB.
I had an assistant manager who had been a temp store manager transfer into my store once, and since they didn’t step her down before the transfer, it wiped me out of the system, and IT wouldn’t talk to me because I “wasn’t a manager”.
I got one of those for Gordie, after he smashed his ceramic one against the stove. “ATTICA! ATTICA! ATTICA!” - Gordie
