Question about sigs

Whats the proper etiquette for quoting a fellow SDMBer in my sig. Do I need to get some sort of OK from them, or am I free to quote away? Thanks.

I’d say mostly people don’t mind being quoted. But the polite thing is to ask first.

It would, perhaps, also depend on what you’re planning to quote.

Thanks Coldfire. I’ll check to be sure.

Even if you don’t ask for permission (it could just slip your mind or something), at the very least, respect a person’s wishes if they ask you later to remove their quote.

After all, what may be innocuous to you mightn’t be to others.

P.S. Do we need to tell you that it’s tacky to quote where somebody called you a “numbnuts”? Unless you’re really, really proud of it…

Sometimes people do it, mainly to express their anger. But there’s a better way to express anger about this–in the Pit.

Quotes are fine. I used one for a while and nobody called me on it (of course, absence of evidence is not evidence of absence (I love that phrase. :))). It was one said by sailor, a regular I happened to see post something that looked really dumb out of context. Here it is, for all to see:

“What year is it?”
-sailor

It was the last line of my sig for a while. I replaced it with one that has more practical value.
