Update on my Dad’s eye surgery: it was unsuccessful; the retina was totally destroyed by the infection, so he’ll eventually be totally blind in that eye.
Dad is upbeat, though; he feels relieved that there is a resolution after two months (the infection started back on October 19th). I don’t know how I got so confused, but the eye involved was his “weak” one. Dad is now adamnant that he will NOT have any surgery (cataract removal) on his other eye, although he may change his mind about that as the vision gets worse, which it will. The original plan was to remove the cataracts and do corneal transplant. We’ll see. At any rate, the outcome wasn’t what we’d hoped it would be, but my Dad doesn’t sound as depressed as he had been.
Thanks too, for all the prayers and good wishes. I know that they helped, at least they helped me to feel better and they probably are helping my Dad in dealing with things. Again, keep him in your thoughts and prayers, as this will definitely mean some adjustments in his life. Thanks!
Herbs dad will remain in my thoughts and prayers. It’s good he’s being upbeat. My father lost his vision pretty much due to diabetes (adult onset) which, coupled with the Alzheimer’s was not a good thing. He never let the vision thing bother him too much either. Then again, in his case, with the Alzheimer’s, it made him realize early on that driving was out of the question, so he never made a fuss about not being able to drive. I’ve known other people with Alzheimer’s who had great vision still and insisted they could drive which is not a good thing at all.
Anywho, here’s to continued prayers and good wishes that things go well for your father.
Tarra - I’m sorry your dad has to go thru that. But with one eye down, will his hearing only get keener on the one side? (I’m trying to inject some humor in the sitch - since he’s come out of it and is feeling better)
When I left the office today at around 4:30ish* it was snowing! The very light, very fine early snow that doesn’t stick to anything, but snow nonetheless. Coworker said it was rain, but I held my hand out and didn’t feel anything as the specks fell from the sky so it was definitely snow - until 20 minutes later when it did change to rain.
I used to love the snow, but that was before I joined the work force and had to drive thru the stuff. Now I like the early winter kind of snow that covers lawns and rooftops, but not roads or driveways. And it’s only allowed to do that once. After the first (sognificant) snow, I start calling for Spring to arrive.
*yes - they did let us out early today. We were more than caught up in our work so the managers discreshed in our favor.
Tomorrow, Cousin is on her way to Seattle to visit relatives on her other side of the family. Relatives who were without power until this morning  !
I may actually get to sleep at a reasonable hour tonight, but I have a lot to do tomorrow, including meeting with a notary to spend 45 minutes signing stuff for my ReFi. <sigh>
Ooh! Wedding pics! You are gorgeous, dahling-simply gorgeous!
And Merry Birthdays to Drae and Taxi!
(note the subtle use of holiday colors whilst still affirming their celebratory moments…)
I did A Good Thing today. I offered to come in for half a day on Christmas Day so that a coworker can spend some time with her son. She works two jobs and doesn’t have time off until Boxing Day-this way she gets the afternoon of Xmas off and all of Boxing Day.
So, I feel good. Went to rent Lil Miss Sunshine and they were sold out. <sigh>
Off to read Eragon some more to #2 son. He’s loving it-me, it’s gotten tedious. DO SOMETHING ALREADY! The guy needs an editor…
rigs and gotti both of you have earned major Karma points, not to mention ubermega cool kid points. Good on both of ya! Now that’s what the holiday spirit is all about.
Taxi, you were a beautiful bride! And Happy Birthday!
Tarra - sorry to hear about your Dad’s eye. I’ll keep him in my thoughts.
Sorry about the things I missed; I have been awake since 8:00 Friday morning with only about 4 hours sleep due to Mr. SCL’s snoring. It’s now 6:20 and I’ve been back from Huntsville for about an hour. Snakes won 3-2. Their goalie should have gotten an assist on our last goal - it was a very slow moving shot and it simply jumped his stick off of a bump in the ice. Heeheehee. Not pretty, but we’ll take the 2 points. We had a great time on the trip, and when we stopped for lunch the player’s Dad we were taking with us bought lunch for all of us. He said it was worth it to get to enjoy the company of 6 beautiful women! What a sweetheart! We met some very nice Huntsville fans, and heard from some not-so-nice ones. I simply cannot understand the mindset of people who are actively rude to fans of an opposing team. And as for the bitch who told the 13 year old in our group “you suck” - she is the perfect example of why Alabama has a low-class reputation. It really is sweet to beat them in their own barn when they act so classless.
I have been up for so long I am wired - I need sleep because there is another game tonight! Maybe a hot bath will help. Have a great day, everyone!
My team also one last night. I saw a girl at the game that looked just like you, Mika. Do you have a twin? I chatted with a girl at the booster club table. She’s cute and single. I am very tired, and have to work tonight, so see you later. ZZZZzzzzzz[sub]zzzzz[sub]zzzz[sub]zzzz[/sub][/sub][/sub]
Happy almost-birthday to Drae, and tara, I’m so sorry. Will keep on praying and thinking good thoughts. Keep your chin up, and hugs from me and the cats.
zelie, w00t!
Today I have to make a bunch of food, haul Mr. Lissar up in a few hours to clean the kitchen so I can make food, sweep, vacuum, and mop, and go to Mass. I should also ask my parents to pick up the presents today, because it’ll be too busy tomorrow, and we’ll be going straight from midnight Mass to their place. If I make the lemon meringue sponge cake, I should probably do it on the day of the party, right? It’s got whipped cream and lemon curd. I could make the curd today, and do the rest tomorrow.
I’m making feta dip and skordalia and chocolate gingerbread. Yum.
Good morning everyone! So much to do do! So little time!
Have to pick the roast beast today, take the kids to their Christmas shopping, pick up some groceries for the Christmas day extravaganza (taters, butter, veggies, cream cheese, crackers, side dish ingredients of some sort, beef broth, onions, two pies and veggie tray for tomorrow, and other assorted stuff.
I also need to pick up stocking stuffers and various size batteries. Plus, I still need to steam clean downstairs and I need to clean upstairs. Plus laundry.
Agh. I’m soooooo tired! When will the madness stop?!
Sorry for the double-post, but I forgot add I’m with you on the housecleaning thing. I hate it; especially when I have so many other things that need to be done.
Well, this bites. Mr SCL was scheduled to work Christmas Eve and have Christmas Day off. The mother of one of the other nurses unexpectedly yesterday, so Mr. SCL is working Christmas Day, too. It really isn’t that bad, I guess, especially if you consider how the other nurses family must be feeling right now. That is so sad, and will be for Christmases forever.
I got our very own Haze as my Secret Santa! What? Of course I didn’t wait for Christmas to open my gifts! What a silly idea!
I am still recovering from the effects of being in a car for 10 hours yesterday. I’m not slept out but I don’t want to go back to sleep so maybe I’ll sleep tonight.
My sympathies tarragon. I hope your dad will be happy with whichever choice he makes.
And congrats eleanorigby! Quit whining and realise how fantastic you did!
**dogbutler ** what the heck does that mean? I can’t work out the last bit.
I should point out that I’ve driven a train before. But yesterday was my first day on my own. I was being very careful and crawling along. Today I was much better and because the kids are on holiday now I got lots of gretchens clogging up the platforms and waving at me. I blame Underground Ernie. (Actually I probably got more of a kick out of waving than they did).
I’m off on holiday tomorrow so MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone!
