More than a week ago I looked into the theme song for It: Welcome to Derry
I found that it was a song (that I’d never heard of) by a duo (that I’d never heard of) called Patience and Prudence. Looking for info on Patience and Prudence, I found them doing a cover of Tonight You Belong to Me
Which I remembered having been in a Steve Martin movie. I was thinking The Man With Two Brains, but it was The Jerk.
So for several days now I have had Tonight You Belong to Me stuck in my head off and on.
I’ve been listening to a bunch of 60s British pop, and was recommended a song by The Move with the intriguing title “Curly”. Damned if this isn’t one of the finest songs to come out of that era:
This one totally baffles me. I dozed off while watching TV last night and when I woke up about 30 minutes later, “The Wayward Wind” by Gogi Grant (1956) was playing on my mental jukebox. It was a huge hit its day, but I was only 4 years old in 1956, though I’ve heard the song here and there over the years, enough times that I can play it in my mind, note for note. I remember it was on some LP we had around the house when I was a kid.
It’s a great song. Lots of people recorded it, including Patsy Cline and Tex Ritter, but I’ve never heard any other version than Ms. Grant’s.
It wasn’t played in the TV show I was watching, and I haven’t thought of that song in probably 50 years, so why would it pop into my mind that way? And it stuck until I went to bed.
Sometimes my mind works in very, very mysterious ways…
If there are any psychologists on SDMB, I’d welcome an explanation.
I don’t get many earworms so I haven’t participated in this thread. I have one now. Jack O’Connell and others doing Rocky Road to Dublin from the movie Sinners. Note: in the movie they only did the first and last verse. This is the full song. I’ve had to pull it up on YouTube daily for a while now.
We’re just back from a brief vacation in Bristol (the one nearly in Wales). Actually, we were staying in Portishead, just outside of Bristol. And yes, the band Portishead did come from Portishead. The singer was Beth Gibbons, so, inevitably…
Ah! Leah! by Donnie Iris has been swirling around in my head for a few days. It’s such a great song, but it’s one that I don’t think of very often. It popped up on TikTok the other day. I’m glad it did.
Then this morning, I saw a clip of Tom Jones singing She’s a Lady, and doing his funky dance. So now I have both of those songs popping up in my head.
