Thanks, Mooooooom.
Saying a truthful statement is a valid defense against libel/slander; I was merely calling a spade a spade, Spade.
I’m confooseded; when I look up outside I see blue; what is that?
It did pour early this morning; making rain for every day so far this month. So what did I do?
Trail run!
It was slippy…& sloppy, & the backs of my calves were mud splattered, at least until a good scrub in the shower. I wanted to go for a bike ride but the winds are very gusty & being suddenly blown to the middle of a lane with a car coming up behind you is not a good thing. I could always clean instead ::snicker::
Butters, when am I coming down next year, in April or May?
Spidey the Keys100 is every year. The airshow was this year even though I heard an ugly rumor that we will have another airshow next year. It’s too soon. Too much work. Anytime is a good time to visit the Keys.
It is officially hot. But apparently the nearest weather station connected to my phone app is malfunctioning, because it’s reading 102°F. The next nearest station says 92°, which sounds about right.
Happy Mother’s Day to those celebrating. And commiserations for those not.
Went to see The Boy’s very last high school drama production last night - he was the stage manager, and (like any school production) there were high points and low points. I did point out to my kid that, if you are like us (paler than milk,) you can’t do the Japanese invisible stage hand thing if you roll up the sleeves of your black shirt. At certain points, props were being moved by a pair of disembodied white forearms. A little surreal. The musical performances were excellent - a pleasant improvement from years past. The young lady who performed the Prince tribute during intermission was ah-maaaz-ing, and another girl will be equally fabulous by next year, when she gains a little confidence. Girl 2.0 will be on stage with them next time around, and I’m hoping that, by then, I can finally convince the drama king to let me run the sound, or at least let me teach the kid running the board. Little basic things, like keeping the singers 10 feet behind their monitor speakers, and pushing the bass instead of the volume for speakers and singers whose voices don’t carry well, would improve the audience experience.
In other news, I’m plotting to adopt Girl 2.0’s best friend. She joined us for dinner and a show last night, and I’m just madly in (maternal) love. I adore smart, sarcastic children!
Howdy Y’all! I’m back at da cave. Actually been back a while but I achieved nappage soon after arrivin’ cause I was sleepified. Anywho, ‘twas a good weekend up in Ye Olde Home Towne. My mom has a stress fracture on her ribs and on her back just at base of her spine. Thus, she hurts a lot. Well at eighty-seven I can imagine she hurts. A lot. Anywho, her doc is also worried a bit about her heart so she has to have her blood pressure taken several times a day which she could do but won’t so my sister and brothers are havin’ to monitor that and make sure she takes the meds she’s supposed to take. I had that duty this weekend. I am goin’ up again next weekend as well. The stress fracture thing will heal within a couple of weeks accordin’ to the doc. However, mom, stubborn as she is will still need to be kept after to take her meds. Us kids are now becomin’ the parent.
Yestiddy was fun. The family gathered to celebrate Mother’s Day. Mom stayed up all afternoon and seemed to enjoy bein’ fussed over and waited on, so maybe there is some hope. My youngest great niece (five years old) decided that Great Uncle Swampy would be the ideal playmate so I was entertained for several hours and led around to do all sorts of fun things. She finally got tired enough to be content to sit in my lap at the kitchen counter so she could have ice cream. She wore me out but I had a blast with her. Oh and we et mass quantities of comestibles.
OYKW is on his way back. He estimates he’ll be here around eightish. I’m sure he’ll want to crash cause that’s a six hour drive one way and booooooooorrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnn’! Poor thing.
Happy Mother’s Day to all you motherly types!
Supper was salads from WaWa - healthy, cheap, and easy…
**FCD **is going back to his orthopedist - his back is really, really bothering him. I think partly because he overdid it this weekend, but it doesn’t seem to be getting better at all. What are the chances of spinal surgery #7?
Haven’t been able to reach my mother - I’ll try again in about an hour. I think this was the weekend of my sister’s anniversary party… I think. We declined. Anyway, I should be able to reach her this evening.
A late Happy Mother’s Day wish to all. I need to call my sister-in-law (and then call my brother tomorrow, because it’ll be his B-Day).
FCM and Butters, hope your guys are ok, and I agree, FCM, 86-years old and that many miles is not a good combination, no matter how aware and able your dad is.
Spidey, please understand, I have been eating Oscar Meyer Brausweiger since I can remember (at least since I was 6), so it is more like second nature than 'just a lunchmeat". And yes, I did drive about 520 miles R/T and was rewarded by a successful ending of my quest…and I bought enough to last me to August, so my craving is satisfied for at least 3 months…and 4 trips a year shouldn’t be much of a strain.
One week of retirement is done, and my urge to return to work, ala FCM, is approximately…Nil. We’ll see if that changes.
**MetalMouse **- I made it just over a year before I went back to the salt mines, so there’s hope for you yet!
Happy Mother’s day to those of you who are mothers!
I’ve heathenated, made breakfasts and lunches for the week. Now to wrap up washing the supper dishes before chillage.
My Cat-Mom’s day dinner was chicken pot pie (a fave) and pound cake with Häagen-Dazs Black Cherry Amaretto gelato. Smokey shared both with me.
MetalMouse congrats on your successful quest! Sometimes ya just gotta have what ya gotta have.
I am takin’ tomorrow off irk. I have to be at the funeral home by ten for reasons that are beyond me bein’ as it takes all of fifteen minutes to get from the funeral home to the cemetery drivin’ slow. I just absolutely must follow behind the car that is bearing the cremains to the cemetery so I can receive the ashes and walk them over to the spot where they will be planted. After that, there will be the private memorial ceremony at the nursin’ home. After that the ladies of Dawson Presbyterian Church are feedin’ us all N.O.L. The day is pretty much shot. Besides after gettin’ my belly full of church lady cookin’ I’ll need to go back to da cave for a nap.
We’re 99%ers (a basic American Motorcyclists Association riding club). Any time you have the club logo on its actually against our club rules to drink very much. Come to think of it ----- that could be why most of us rarely wear the club logo. There also isn’t much debate or arguing; we’re just too small a group not to get along fairly well.
Now if we could just break the habit of going a bit more than acceptable over the speed limit ------------
All the flowers are planted and all the headstones cleaned. The weather was perfect for it but it made for a long day.
Busy day, lots of customers. Buying one card each.
Glad you’re enjoying retired life MetalMouse.

Just returned from dinner with The Boy, and a stop at the funeral home. Among the old drinking/trivia friends, I was the youngest. It fell to me to bridge the gap between the teen children and grandchildren there, and the dear old friend who was literally my father’s age. And that’s okay. My friend was a quiet, gentle professional badass. Airborne. 28 years. E9. He loved his wife, and friends, and a cold beer. I hope there’s an afterlife with cold beer, for his sake.
I’ve done 1500 miles in 3 days (solo) as part of the Canadian MLB tour; I’ve done 5000 (with others) in < one week as a vacation. I’ve driven to the DC Ikea to purchase a chair that they were out of locally, but good Og man, they have these two newfangled companies - UPS & FedEx.
You need a job in your retirement; how about as a Hotdogger? Win-Win.
I am gonna check to see if we have that Oscar Meyer product locally. Must be some good stuff. I got a lot done today laundry wise. I have entirely too many clothes. I got my bag packed and stuff ready for irk in the morning. I just need a face to face meeting tomorrow with the house sitter and critter care taker. Gotta make sure she knows she will die if anything happens to my dog.
We are leaving for Miami when I get home from irk. It is a three hour drive if the traffic isn’t bad. Hubby is ready to have it over with. In his present condition he does not have his normal energy. He is whiny too. I have packed a couple of books I have been reading forever so I may finish them. I have to remember to get my heavy sweater from irk cause I nearly froze to death in that hospital last time we were there. All good thoughts and prayers will be appreciated. I am calm as we have been through this before and he has one of the best cardiologists in the country.
I sure will miss my boy though.
Here’s hoping everyone has a good week.
Hugs and Rosie’s sig to all.
I have lost track, as I often do, Buttercup Smith.
Nonetheless, I shall make positive waves.
Thank you Flytrap. Short story hubby in having atrial fibrillation and is going into hospital on Tuesday morning where he will have tran esophageal echocardiogram to make sure he has no blood clots. He will be started on an arrhythmia drug for 24 hours then he will be put to sleep and have a shock delivered to his heart to jolt it into normal rhythm. Then 24 more hours in hospital then home. We have been through this before. Last procedure worked for three years.
Prayers sent, Butters/
Ah, the trans esophageal echocardiogram. Step one: Gargle with lidocaine KY jelly…
Fun Times!
