That is low. My taxes were over $15K for the year
I think our property taxes hover around $3K - since they’re rolled into the monthly mortgage payment, I don’t keep track of the exact amount.
Lunch is over. Time to work again. I needs me a winning lottery ticket!!!
I think we pay about $2K per year in property tax which is low but we have a homestead exemption.
I found out my coworker friend with Pancreatic cancer is actually a stage IV inoperable. All that can be done treatment wise is Chemo. I has a big old sad.
I made me a hotel reservation for next week near the hospital and they have a shuttle so I won’t have to drive in that crazy traffic. I solved the Lucky Louie problem. Our housekeeper is gonna stay at the house with him and the cat. She has a full time job but at least she will be there with him at night and she will let him sleep in the bed with her.
Pouring rain here.
It’s been a pretty sucky morning.
My taxes are about $1500/year - about half of that is county tax and the other half is city tax. That is how the mortgage company screwed up my payments the first year, I was paying only one of the taxes.
WV has cheap taxes, some of the houses I looked out were $400/year.
I know people in NJ and NY and I don’t know how they can afford their property taxes.
Congrats on the house Rocking’
I got a copy of the appraisal yesterday. That was a surprise, I know it had to be redone because the address was spelled wrong but I didn’t get a copy last time. My only thought was I wish I had cleaned up my house a bit more. It looks very ‘lived in’.
Poor Percy. I got cat toy for him and Sah-son went up to see if he would come out to play with it. A friend told me that is how he got his shy cat to come out and play. Instead I hear an OUCH! and hear thump thump thump done the stairs. Percy flipped out, ran into Sah-son in his panic, charged down the stairs, realized he was in the living room with me and the dog, froze in terror, meowed in fear, then ran and hid in Sah-son’s room. Then he meowed the most sorrowful of meows. We got him out of there, only to have him take off again, this time for the kitchen and then back to hide upstairs.
I don’t even know what to do with this cat anymore. He is just pitiful, he looks so sad when he sees us.
Today is three weeks, although maybe I should start counting from the day we took him to the vet. I think that set him back quite a bit.
Jesus Ch…er, Oye gevalt!
NH, for example, has no sales tax, but that doesn’t make up for 13,500 bucks.
AR is now the most overweight state. I guess we eat what we save in taxes.
How do the homeless pay taxes in New…oh, wait.
We only pay county taxes, in two parts (ad valorem tax on the “modular home”/trailer, and property taxes on the land.) This year was a whopping $750 or so. 7% sales tax on most things, 3% on groceries, and state income tax of 5% (less, really, because of deductions and such. Can’t complain too much, I guess.
The Boy just returned from the honor graduate luncheon. The menu hasn’t changed much since I went in 1987! Nor have the speeches - it’s sponsored by a local bank, and there’s always some dull man discussing credit management and student loans.
And the university is holding graduation ceremonies today and tomorrow, so students will be gone by Sunday at the latest - traffic and the grocery stores and restaurants will be peaceful for a few weeks - hooray!
Blurf.
It’s raining. Yay, rain!
Also, blurf.
Blurf. It’s still cold and raining. But we has deposit money and closing costs we can cover out of a paycheck!
We’ve been on the phone with the mortgage guy for the past hour to go over the application and getting the $400 good-faith fee paid for the appraisal and the official credit check. The inspection is next Friday and we can close pretty much at our leisure. We just have to wait for underwriting to do their thing
We decided that Red Robin would make us fish-n-chips for supper. Not nearly as good as what I had in Scotland and England, but not bad. The rain is tapering off - we actually saw a wee bit of sunshine, but it’s gone again. Oh well…
I’m about to shed my work clothes and spend the evening in my fuzzy robe. That pretty much sums it up.
Spent part of the day in lockdown at work after an ex-DHS agent who killed his estranged wife in the neighboring county last night decided to move into our immediate area and go on a shooting spree in mall parking lots. Including the initial attack, he shot 6 people at three different sites, five of whom were random bystanders and 3 of whom died. In a sickening bit of irony, they apprehended him across the street from the site of one of the first Beltway Sniper shootings 13 years ago after he had just eaten at a Boston Market that John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo also frequented.
And it’s been pouring all day. Fun Friday!
**chizz **- Just saw that on the news! They said the thought he was trying for suicide by cop, but he surrendered without much incident. Altho from what I saw on Channel 7 news, he couldn’t have run if he’d wanted to. Glad they caught the guy.
The VA underwriting guy did his thing and thanks to some re-calculations, the debt-to-income thing is off by juuuuust a leeeetle beeeet… enough that paying one of our cars off is the only way to get the mortgage. It’s only $2800. We’ve got $1000 coming in this week, so we only need to find another $1800. No big thing.
Did a double shift and then some and not all that beat up or tired. Luck of the draw put me with good people all day and that made the whole thing better. Two of our managers have a bet on the Pens/Caps series; if one team wins the other has to shave his head into a mohawk. The one with the Caps was trying to weenie out based on the fact to no-one had a good pair of professional clippers. I heard about all this yesterday so I oiled and sharpened my big Osters. Honestly I don’t care who wins the series ------ I just want to see the photos of a semi-shaved head.
I worked, got my oil and coolant changed, then walked Gordie.
No food? : faints dead away :
Enjoy!
 I’d need an extra job, just to afford that.
I want them to both lose. But a Mohawk pick wold work.
[color=red[Rockin’[/color], hope you can swing the mortgage.
Yup, I was out there all day. Fucking soaked, pardon my language.
When it started today it had the same feeling for a lot of us who worked through the Snipers. Very happy to have it end so quickly.
Woke up in the middle of the night, so I am up irking. Getting ready to start some laundry.
I hope the rain stops long enough today for the lawn to get mowed. Now that school is out we are chipping away at my list of things to do.
I organized the linen closet and bathroom cabinets yesterday. I told Sah-son, see how I have it arranged? Keep it that way! I just bought a bunch of body wash because I couldn’t find any, now I have 8 bottles.
I have too many towels, thanks to my mother cleaning out her closet.
Up, sheveled, off to irk. If it’s anything like yesterday it’ll be a soap opera at the front desk. Butch just broke up with her junkie girlfriend and it’s moved to the passive-aggressive Facebook Drama stage.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Short day today.
**doggio **- in last night’s follow-on dream, **rosie **showed up at our house while spousal unit and I were away, and she proceeded to make egg salad for the party, so there’s that.
**sari **- we had tons of towels because for years, we always had boats, and when you have a boat, you can never have too many towels. Then when we bought this place, the previous owners left us a bunch of their towels. So we’ve got 'em in the linen closet, in the hall bathroom cabinet, in an armoire, and in several baskets in the basement! If towels ever become a commodity, we’ll be RICH!!!
Apart from dreaming about **rosie **in my kitchen, my brain had me driving on icy roads and dealing with a bunch of situations that I’ve now forgotten. I woke at least 4 times during the night, so I’m kinda dragging now. I left **FCD **tucked in and I even closed the curtain on the east side of the bedroom, not that it matters - it’s overcast and gray… again.
I’m pretty sure we won’t get done our outside chores today, dammit! We shall see. In theory, we’ll see sun tomorrow, before more rain moves in. I am not liking this spring. But if it rains on party day, the party still goes on!!! I’ll just have to tent the smoker.
so, yeah, yeah, Happy Saturday.
