romans- thanks heaps! It’s just like back in NY! I’m really hoping we don’t lose power. Did you stock up on bread and milk yet? Me, I stocked up on beer and Ho Ho’s. Screw the milk and bread. Whatcha gonna do, have a milk sammich?
I was on the roads today and they are SLICK, even by NY standards. I predict bad news for the evening commute. (Today I’m off, so that’s a happy thing)
Hey, can someone clarify when you are going to meet for food? If you are going to Exploris, then over to the City Market somewhere…then on to Jillian’s, right?
I can make the dinner part, and will have LittleSon with me. He is just learning to walk (looks like a little drunk :D).
I’m going to lobby for Greenshields as the restaurant because I’ve heard good things about it and I’d like to go there (though since it’s a brewpub, I hope no one will think aenea’s son is walking like a drunk 'cuz we’re giving him beer!)
As for the bread and milk thing, having been born and raised in the Great White North, crappy weather is more annoying than alarming to me. We’ve already laid in a supply of beer, wine and fried snacks, so we should be fine as frog hair for the time being.
Well, after several days of the Great North Carolina Ice Storm of 2002 (which brings back memories of the Great Northeast Ice Storms of 1991 and 1998, the latter of which I’m sure the Montreal Dopers will share), I’m taking the liberty of bumping this thread, with a request for some consensus on restaurant.
Looks like Greenshields suits most people – also possible are Peppercorns and Tir na nOg in the immediate vicinity.
So many dopers in the backwoods Raleigh area and who’s in the mighty greater metropolitan Charlotte area? Me and KneadToKnow? Yep, I think that’s about it…
Yes, Greenshields! Can we get an approximate meeting time, as well, for those of us who can’t make the movie?
Hope all of you are recovering from the storm - four days of no power (and no water for us, because we have a well with an electric pump) is making me seriously consider contacting an electrician and getting our junction box wired for a generator sooner rather than later!
We didn’t have power from Thursday afternoon to Saturday afternoon. We didn’t lose it during the original ice storm, but later when a tree fell on some lines next door.
Our house is apparently fairly well-insulated; it didn’t get unbearably cold in here until Saturday morning. We went to do some Christmas shopping, and when we came back, we had power! We’ve been dancing around naked with every light in the house on ever since. (OK, not really.)
I thought we were doing dinner, rather than lunch? … I think there are some other folks here that could meet for dinner, but are working during the day, so lunch would be out.
If we can do dinner, then it looks like that would occur at approximately 6 pm.
How about cocktails before dinner, starting at 6? That would give the movie stragglers time to recoup and wander over. Then we could plan on 6:30 or so for dinner…
Ahhh Polycarp, I knew from an earlier thread that she was moving to NC but this thread gave me the impression that she was moving to…::drumroll::…Raleigh.
BTW, Zette, you’re not from Binghamton, are you? If so you’re going to feel really at home here because half this town is from Binghamton. I think the other half is from Buffalo…
Ack! I realize this is Zettefest, but guess who cannot be there?
ZETTE!
I apologize profousely, but I have to go to work on that day. I tried, tried, and tried to get it switched around and I just cannot. I didn’t know what my schedule might be until I got down here, so I apologize- I didn’t think I would be working that Saturday.
Please don’t hate my guts and I will have to rescedule for another Saturday.
deepest regrets,
We lost power for less than 24 hours, phone for about 48 hours and we still have no cable/internet service. (FTM, I’m only able to get my Dope at work.)
And in light of the fact that the movie outing seems to be off and also owing to us having to make an emergency purchase of a kerosene heater, I think we’re going to have to sit this occasion out.
[sub]sigh Damned natural disasters and their unforseen expenses. Looks like this year’s Christmas presents are going to be made out of paper…[/sub]
