I just read the “Would I make a good general?” thread – wow, that’s a doozy.
Any chance that Ralph is a 14 year old? It’d explain a lot.

I always thought the ‘Ralph’ was part of ‘Ralph Wiggam’. Seemed apt to me.
Leave Duffer alone.
At least he ain’t Brutus.
Eh, you guys are gonna feel real stupid when he becomes a 5-star general with his novel concept of “total, homicidal asshole war,” and kills you like ants.
All enemies you die ants war death Republican.
Until I read the FAQ I assumed the word was cunt, now I know it isn’t I can say it. Cunt.
Not aimed at anybody in particular mind, as I hadn’t came accross Ralph before. Not that I just came accr…oh never mind.
I looked at some of your your citations (not all) of ralph124c’s perfidious misdeeds, and he’s mainly guillty of asking a lot of questions. The issue of coming back to “thank” people for information was dealt with at length some time ago by Una, and was determined (common sensically) to be somewhat unnecessary and redundant as a point of board etiquette given the quick moving nature of the board. From time to time I have specifically thanked people for providing useful information, but it’s not a regular habit nor something I expect of others.
I also ask lots of questions, and (I think) I offer lots of information in return to other people’s questions. I don’t sit around mooning if someone doesn’t say “Thanks astro” if I’ve spent one minute or an hour researching a topic. I did it because I wanted to, not because I’m expecting some pat on the back.
If you want to beat ralph over the head because you’re annoyed that he asks more questions than he answers, you really need to get over yourself. His posting style may not be to your liking, but he’s not doing anything wrong, and for you to be so obsessed with his posting patterns is just a teensy bit odd.
And all you others piling on and calling him names, shame on you. He’s not a troll and impling that he is, is really petty.
Talk about damning with faint praise.
Our Ralph is a curious BOY
With odd CAPS and PUNC he doth toy
He starts up a thead
Then LEAVES it FOR DEAD
A habit some FIND doth ANNOY.
Can I get an english translation for this please?
Hey, thatnks for the great answer astro.
I think he’s trying to sneek spam into your inbox.
It’s free verse.
It needs some punctuation:
All enemies? You die! Ants war. Death = Republican.

Thanks.
Makes sense now.
I also ask lots of questions…
You’re in a dead heat with ralph124c in GQ over the past year:

I have a theory about ralph. I believe he’s actually a goldfish. A really intelligent goldfish with internet access. Being intelligent, he wants to gather knowledge and debate weighty issues with others, so he signed up here (okay, he’s a goldfish with internet access and a credit card) and starts a thread on some topic. But then his goldfish nature kicks in and thirty seconds later he’s forgotten all about it. And the capitalization issue is explained by the lack of decent public schooling at the pet store where he grew up.

Did he used to be a German ski jumper?
His questions don’t bother me. This:
Sen. Ted Kennedy:“Torture is an American value”!
bothers me. As a thread title it is deliberately inflammatory and complete bullshit, besides. He may not be a troll, but posting inflammatory, bullshit thread titles is trollish behavior.
He’s a tighty righty…what else can be expected from him?

Ralph124c41 is a robot invented in 1911 by Hugo Gernsback. The little pre-1920’s death ray man of steel forsaw many modern inventions.
It needs some punctuation:

I for one welcome…

No, there are plenty of threads where he makes stupid and unsubstantiated assertions or allegations, and then, when people call him on his bullshit or ask him to back it up with evidence, he simply fails to reappear, or offers a complete non-sequitur as an answer.
The most recent example—or at least the most recent one that i’ve noticed—is this thread. In the OP, he says:
I get a good laugh from all the lawyers on the SDMB, who insist that “frivolous” lawsuits don’t exist.
More than one person, including me, asked him to support this statement. After a long period of silence on the matter, i attempted to bring it to his attention again:
I notice, Ralph, that you don’t have the guts or the integrity to either support or retract your assertion that the lawyers on the SDMB “insist that ‘frivolous’ lawsuits don’t exist.”
Moron.
To which he responded:
It Takes One to Know One!
If you are so stupid that you haven’t noticed all of the previous threads, then YOU ar truly a moron!
And to which i then replied:
Well, if there are so many, and if you are as aware of them as you would have us believe, then surely you can point me to one single instance where any SDMB lawyer has said that “frivolous lawsuits don’t exist.”
Can you do that?
Of course, he hasn’t been heard of since in that thread.
Look, i realise that this particular transgression isn’t the biggest deal in the world, and that his stupid drive-by attack on the SDMB lawyers isn’t worth getting too worked up about. But the fact remains that this is typical of his posting style—make an inflammatory or stupid comment, especially in an OP, and then completely ignore people’s good-faith attempts to make you support your position with evidence or logic.
Admittedly, though, there are times when he is amusing. Here’s one of my favorites, which sticks in my mind even though it’s over six months old:
First, ralph124c enters a thread called Favorite clothing brand?, and offers the following:
You can’ beat ZEGNA for shirts…though at $200.00 a pop, they are abit pricey. For pants I like CORNELIANI…and for $1200.00, I got a pair of wool-cashmere slacks that are great. For suits, Zegna or Corneliani…and shirts, Thomas Pink of London is pretty good.
I’m like Jay Gatsby…can’t get enough of class!
Then, not ten days later, our hero starts his own thread
, in which he says:
I am constantly amazed by how sheeplike people can be…and the following (short) list of products is proof why. Economists always seem to think that people behave rationally…why this assumption is made is beyond me! Consider the following:
-BOTTLED WATER: in hundreds of double-blind taste tests, many American city tap waters have been found to taste better than expensive imported bottled water. In addition, many bottle waters have been found to be contaminated with bacteria and various heavy metals. So why to people pay $$ when they can get better water from the tap…for pennies?
-STRBCKS COFFEE: why people pay $3.00 for a cup of bitter, mediocre coffee is beyond me! Cheap trade brands cost less and taste better. And, they are raising their prices!
-HIGH-END STEREO Equipment: by the time you are old enough to affordit, your ears have deteriorated such that you can’t tell the difference between a $500 system and a $5000 system.
-DESIGNER CLOTHES: many are just ordinary clothes with a designer label. In addition some (like Armani) are actually poorly sewn and of low quality.
=Expensive Watches (>$500): are no more accurate than a $20 Timex. They also require cleaning, oiling, adjustment, etc.
-DEALER-Installed car radios: why are these things so expensive? You can buy a decnt aftermarket radio/CD for leass than $200.
-LIQUID LAWN CARE: A guy sprays $5.00 worth of chemicals on your lawn for $150…and the stuff washes away at the first rainstorm.
-DIAMONDS: whay do people buy the crap from DeBeers? Soon, excellent quality synthetic diamonds will be available…for 1/10th the price. Then De Beers will try to convince people that “diamonds WITH defects” are worth more!
Heh heh.
