Re-run(?) of Eddie Izzard, Hilarious Transvestite comic

If you have never seen Eddie Izzard, you must catch his act on HBO. If you have already laughed your ass off watching this show, you’ll probably want to see it again. If you don’t get HBO, please have a friend tape it for you.

It’s entitled, “Dress to Kill,” which sounds familiar to me, but the blurb seems to describe a gig I never saw:

British comic Eddie Izzard hits the Unitred States for a lively show that features such topics as mass murderers, puberty and Scooby Doo.

I don’t remember any of those things, but what the hell, I’m older.

Here, in one small part of Connecticut, are the dates, times, etc., for the forthcoming spots:

Fri 3/12 11:30pm Ch. 404 HBOC
Thu 3/18 2:15am " " "

[If you go aoltvlistings.com (or something like that) and tweak it for your area, you can then search on “Eddie Izzard” (sans quotes) and perhaps you’ll get the poop.]

If I’m not mistaken, Izzard did his act in Paris. He seems to be utterly fluent in French. Also, IIRC, he bombed there. I think he mentions this, and the fact that no one does standup in France. ‘They don’t get it,’ apparently.

At any rate, this guy does a bit on working useless French phrases into conversation, and even if you don’t speak a word of it, it’ll knock you out. It should have been in the blurb (mentioned above).

I don’t know if he’s a true Transvestite, or if dressing as a woman is just his schtick, but I do know that the guy is riotously funny.

Hope you catch it.

I have this and a bunch of his other stuff on vhs and dvd. I love Eddie and was quite unhappy that his boston dates last year to see him live coincided with me giving birth so I couldn’t go :frowning:

I haven’t seen him in concert, but I recently rewatched Mystery Men and he was part of the great cast in that movie.

Hilarious stuff. I especially like him talking about the flags. “We live here…So what its ours …we have a flag” The HBO spot you are talking about was taped a while back, but its still funny I happen to have watched it last night.

“Cake or Death!”

pure genius

Yes, Colonel Sebastian?

It’s just the Rebels, sir…they’re here.

Oh? Do they want tea?

No, I think they’re after something a bit more than that, sir. I don’t know what it is, but they brought a flag.

Damn! That’s dash cunning of them!

:stuck_out_tongue:

I love Eddie Izzard’s comedy. I got to see him live in Minneapolis last fall, the Sexie tour. Funny stuff.
I taped Dress To Kill a few years ago when I saw it on HBO. A couple of Christmases ago, I got the DVD. That one is still my favorite. I also bought Glorious on VHS because it isn’t out on DVD yet, AFAIK.

Oh, nice sense of priority.

Mass Murders (quoting from old memories so be kind)

Pol Pot killed XX Million people and died in bed so well done there.

You must get up VERY early in the morning. Your day planner must be “death death death death, lunch, death death death”

Hitler was a mass murdering fuckhead…as many serious historians will tell you.

Puberty

That’s when you start switching on and you want to look your best and that’s when mother nature says NOT YOU’LL LOOK THE WORST YOU EVER DID BEFORE IN YOUR LIFE! I used to look in the mirror and think “well…I’d never shag me that’s for certain”

Scooby Do

When you go abroad tell people two things. One you’re from Canada that helps and two just say Scooby Do

They’re like Falstaff a Shakespearian character it’s that level of genius.

The rest of the kids on the buss fuck off. Scrappy Do a magnum bang

If you like Dress to Kill you should pick up a copy of Circle. It was the tour after Dress to Kill.

Good stuff as well.

I’ve been a fan since 1993. I’ve got a video of his signed “Dear Francesca, Le singe est dans l’arbre, love Eddie”. I love him and we’re going to have ten thousand babies. Back off.

“Three major religions, one holy city. Couldn’t they have just spread it out a bit? ‘You have Aqaba, we’ll have Moscow, you can have Dover’”

He’s the best Executive Transvestite comedian i’ve ever seen, thats for sure

And of course a rather insightful view of the great gun debate:
“They say that ‘guns don’t kill people, people kill people.’ Well I think the gun helps. If you just stood there and yelled BANG, I don’t think you’d kill too many people.”

Dressed to Kill is quite funny but not exactly a ma-nuuuu-ver yet.

Fan-tab-u-lous!

MeanJoe

“The fourth transvestite battalion dropping in with fabulous makeup…”

Since I don’t get HBO comedy, it appears I’ll never be able to see Dressed to Kill again. So, which E.I. videos/DVDs should I buy?

I suggest starting with this one.

He certainly is a comic genius - there’s a technique (that probably has a formal name) whereby one tells a series of apparently distinct amusing anecdotes, but bits of the previous ones keep escaping and invading the current - Izzard is the absolute master of this.

This guy is a riot. Even my German, generally non-laughing husband cracked up.

Wow…when you can crack up a German, you’ve made it, man.

Bumping this because I missed it somehow.

HUGE Eddie fan here - what do you wanna know?

Problem with Izzard is that his humour is all in the delivery. All the above quotes aren’t that funny until you see/imagine Izzard saying it.
