Recent server timeout errors — anyone else getting them?

And a 502 error on the edit; though maybe I just tried it too soon after the main post. I note that the edit did actually post; and that the thread opened fine a couple of minutes later.

The board has been terrible today. 504 or 502, whatever the number is, errors almost every time I try to open a page. Took several attempts just to post this.

At first I thought it must have to do with replies to “biggish” threads (upwards of 1000 posts, let’s say) but I have satisfied myself that that’s not necessarily the right answer.

All I know is that it’s a risk whenever I post! Must be me! I’ll have to stop cussing and stepping on cracks in the sidewalk. Or switch to old movies…

It’s an intermittent problem. It happens more on some days than others, and affects some users more than others (although it’s possible this is due to a statistical illusion). I don’t think the cause is anything like database size or thread length because those things aren’t intermittent. It’s possible it’s a resource issue related to the number of simultaneous users, or a hardware problem (old hardware can get wonky like this), or background tasks on the server that don’t run all the time.

Yeah, I’ve experienced the 502 and 504 errors over ten times in one hour.

Things have been good for a while until I hit ATMB this AM. From that time on it was 502s and 504s and say 5 of those for every page I eventually got to see. FWIW.

Bugger, now I’m getting bad gateway and freezes and crashes again.

Fuck it, tried FOUR TIMES to post this.

Now getting told wait every sixty seconds. That makes five

Random is my best guess and I’ve had several guesses.

And I got a totally new one ---- when trying to post the above for the first time I got “you are required to wait 60 seconds between posts”. Hell, it had been over two hours!

I blame both Super Bowl teams; both having RED in their colors.

Right there with you!

LOVE it! Got to be the truth.

It’s been pretty bad for me today.

I’ve had more trouble when quoting other posts or when editing a post then when just navigating around or using “post quick reply”. Maybe just chance?

Seconded.

Oddly … when this thread gets active with a lot of complaints, I’m almost always experiencing clear sailing. Admittedly, there is a lag between when others experience issues and when I read their complaints here.

Getting to think that for TPTB, this issue is not necessarily big enough or damaging enough to feel like major-league resources need to be brought to the fore (if such resources are even available). It kind of looks like the kind of things users just kind of have to get used to.

That’s a somewhat more bitter pill than it would be because there are paid members on this site, not to mention ad revenue. Not really sure what our membership fees really entitle us to, nor what the ad revenue really adds to the bottom line. This place has changed hands a bunch … but the conventional wisdom in the past was always that even with ads and memberships, this site was still a money sink.

Yep. Nearly every thread that I’ve tried to open and every page of posts once a thread finally opens has been crashing all weekend. It sucks.

Enough already. Jesus H. Christ.

Takes 5 minutes for the site to load after repeatedly trying, then the main page loads, click on IMHO and it hangs. Quit. Try again to get to main forum site and it hangs, hangs, hangs. Finally get through and decide to try Cafe, and it hands. Quit and try again for minutes.

Has taken over 20 minutes to open one thread.

no, but frequently

dunno. Yesterday and today, for sure

yes

dunno

As I said above, it seems more common when I’m quoting or editing than when I’m just browsing, but it’s died a few times today just browsing, too.

I got the error submitting that post. (Or more likely, reloading the page, since it seems to have posted.) i was able to see that I’d posted in a different tab, but that tab is still saying “server error”. (this tab was moving pretty slowly)

Today had not been vBulletins finest day.
