The announcement says the system is “verf”. Is that an acronym for something? What’s “verf”?

The SDMB is hosted on a Google server, not a DesertNet server.
Could be German verfahren (messed up) with an ellipsis at the end. There are stronger German expletives starting with verf…, but they don’t fit in this grammatical context. Maybe Yiddish?
It’s a Dutch word that means “paint”.

Yeah, today they’ve been…aggressive.
Second time can’t post a fucking poll. And TPTB wonder why I don’t pay for a subscription. It’s been how many days?
I believe it’s related to the concept of “covfefe”. If the system is covfefe, it means it’s sometimes slow and occasionally produces gateway timeout errors. If the system is verf, it means it’s so bad that it’s pretty much unusable. Happily, today system performance has been ausgezeichnet.
Remember, English is an evolving language, and new words or new meanings for old words are, like, literally popping up all the time without warning – sometimes hitting us upside the head – and it’s our responsibility as linguistic descriptivists to humbly and uncritically accept it. Though I have to say, speaking for I alone, that I literally could care less.
ETA: I haven’t been on today until just recently due to the intrusion of real life, so as others have reported it may have been bad earlier in the day.
And, indeed, it’s back again. I had to make three attempts just to add the ETA above.
Yeah, things seems especially turbulent this afternoon.
I continue to recommend that the PTB try disabling the edit feature. Even if we’re moving to a new platform, it’s worth trying to keep this one running relatively well until that point and all that you do if the edit removal doesn’t improve things a little bit is to reenable it.
And I’ll note that it’s just a useful to render the button invisible as to turn off the feature, if one of those things is easier.
Why fool around with the edit feature when there is a working temporary solution that seems to last a few days, the one that was done last week. It seems that it requires manual intervention and can’t be done automatically, but it didn’t seem to take very long (at least, judging by the database downtime which was very short).
Was any sort of tweaking done in the past few days? The site seems to be working better. I still get 5xx errors, but they seem to happen much less frequently and the outage doesn’t last as long.

I was thinking that perhaps for the near term, this ‘temporary solution’ could be a twice-a-week maintenance item.
I get an error code just about every time I make a post. Far more frequently when I use my phone than with my laptop although it’s a problem with both.
