Recommend me a... nose hair trimmer

So, at the risk of being all TMI…

At some point in my life, I have apparently been placed on the road towards being one of those tuft-nosed old gentlemen. (As of yet, my ears remain blessedly hairless.) Being still a relatively young man, it remains something that mostly only I’m aware of if I’m quite up close and personal with a mirror–but I can see those little hairs peeking out, and it bugs me. Worse, they TICKLE. On the inside of my nose. So I’m always having to rub my nose, and it never seems to help.

Now I’m sure I’m not the only one with this problem. I’ve tried a few trimmers, and not been pleased with any of them. If I could, I’d go at 'em with a tweezers, but I understand that that’s rather dangerous due to the way blood flow works in the face. I’ve also heard you can get your more old school barbers to trim you up there (can you?), but I’ve never had the gall to ask mine to do that. (I felt odd enough asking for my eyebrows to be trimmed at first.)

So, hirsutely-nosed gentlemen of the Dope, give me a few recommendations for handling this hairy situation.

The best thing I’ve found for dealing with errant eyebrow and nose hairs is a wife with a steady hand and a small pair of barber’s scissors.

and for the unmarried? do we team up, or what?

That would work. Or get together in a pack like chimps and instead of picking fleas, trim nose hair and shave backs. :stuck_out_tongue:

Teensy sharp scissors, patience, and tweezers.

I HATE HATE HATE that nose itchy thing. Worst. Thing. Ever. But damn do those hairs grow fast.

You don’t explain what you don’t like about the trimmers you’ve tried but I’ll offer this one from Conair.

Being someone who’s not very attracted to nose and ear hair, I’ve bought a few of these devices for my boyfriends over the years. I’ve bought cheap ones and expensive ones. They either don’t work or break very soon after buying. I’ve tried all the top brands. The Conair is the only one I’ve ever gotten that works great and the the thing still works like new after a year and a half with my current SO.

I use one of these (nail scissors). That pic is slightly larger than actual size.

After poking my nasal passage one too many times, I bought a pair of blunt-tip, curved-blade scissors from the make-up aisle at Walgreens for this task. They work like a charm.

I have those exact scissors and I’m not too impressed. plus I like gadgets, so I want something with power!

I tried a powered rotary nose-hair trimmer once.

I class it somewhere between the rack and ripped out fingernails in its efficiency as a torture device. After about 2 seconds, I was confessing to the Kennedy assassination.

Could you send her over to my place?

Exactly, and don’t cheap out on the scissors. I tried several pair, but nose hairs are covered in slippery mucus. I finally ponied up like $20 for some good scissors.

For the record, what I don’t like is that they just don’t work very well. I’ll have a try with the blunt tipped curved nail scissors for now.

First, may I just remark how pleased I am with the opportunity this gives me to express myself.

Please consider the “Philips Norelco Nose and Ear Trimmer NT9110/60” available from Amazon.com.

I had one of these which I used daily on nose, ears, and spots like between mustache and lip that are hard to do any other way. My big motivation was the very same insanely troubling tickle you describe. I was horrified to have lost part of it when I tried taking the cover off to clean it (unnecessary anyway I think). It happened the night before we left on vacation, and my quality of life dropped a little. I looked in a few stores for one of these to no avail, and then found them on Amazon and ordered three. You will be happy to know that all is well with me now.

They work nicely, have a nice solid sort of purring sound (not rattly and cheap), cut thoroughly and quickly and close, never get stuck on a hair and tug it back and forth rapidly (sending a stream of tears down only one side of my face), and feel nice to hold. I really can’t say enough good things about this product.

I’m female, 49, and I’ve been trimming nose hairs for maybe 10 years. I have tried electric and battery operated ones but I always come back to the “Groom Mate Platinum.” No battery, no burning smell, rinse under running water, and it does a great job. Both ebay and amazon sell them.

I have one of the electric trimmers but frankly it does not work as well as a nice pair of scissors. It is pretty cool though when I hit a dense patch and it bogs down like the lawnmower in thick grass. I tried different styles of scissors and found what works best is a medium sized set – small ones are actually more difficult to maneuver than larger ones, and watch out for sharp tips. Look for high quality steel scissors with solid action. Agree that there are few things in life as annoying as nose hair tickles.

Klipette a tried and true nose hair clipper, non electric, quiet and discreet, highly recommended by men of my acquaintance.

Started with rotary trimmer but the vibration made my eyes water, switched to blunt tipped scissors but couldn’t get enough control, and settled on a good pair of nail scissors like DCnDC linked to. Tricky at first, but it gets easier with practice and no cuts so far. I think the curved ones are better at avoiding cuts than straight ones since you can always point the scissor tips toward the center of your nostril.

Maybe TMI, but when I lived out west my nostrils would dry out, especially after I trimmed the hairs. Applying Neosporin with a Q tip really helps. It’s like ChapStick for your nose.

Wahl makes a great one and it is only $6 on Amazon. Works great.

It’s that simple.

What a bunch of wusses. Man up and pluck the hairs. Soon enough they’ll cease to be a problem.
