Much the same thing happened to a friend of mine, 5-ish years ago (I think I mentioned this in your earlier thread).
She spent something like a full year on antibiotics, which shrank the thing nicely. But every time she tried to wean off the antibiotics, the damn thing started growing again. Finally they did what they shoulda done months earlier - cut her open and removed it. They actually had to remove something like a quarter of that lung, and she was in the hospital for over a week.
But - as the doctor promised, her remaining lung tissue expanded to fill the space, and within a couple of months, she felt (and breathed) far better than she had in about 18 months. I know she wished she’d had the surgery much earlier.
Anyway… good luck to ya!! Give yourself plenty of time to recover before trying to go back to work - even a relatively uncomplicated bag-o-pus-ectomy is likely to wipe you out pretty thoroughly!
Bosda, I’ll be thinking of you and sending good Tennessee vibes your way. Do keep us posted.
(I spent Friday night in the ER with an asthma/bronchitis double-whammy; here’s hoping your lungs will sound NOTHING AT ALL like mine did. My ribs were sore the next day from the extreme effort of breathing.)
Here’s hoping you fel better soon. If you don’t raise hell with your Doc for a CAT scan for masses in your lungs. Histoplasmosis is real, & can be nasty.
Tomorrow, 10 AM, I meet the man who will cut my chest.
Surgery will be discussed.
I’ve been exploding at my folks all afternoon, most unfairly.
Them talking about euthenizing my cat isn’t helping.
Neither is the (senile) cat making wee-wee on the floor.
I’m all keyed up.
Yikes, Bosda, for some reason I had the time wrong in my head, and thought you’d already had the surgery.
I’ll be thinking about you.
BTW, I don’t know if Proin (inexpensive prescription drug available at the vet) can be used on cats. If it can, it may help with the urinary incontinence. It help my dog Cammie (14 y.o. Australian Shepherd who dribbled whenever she lay down.) She’s been dry since we put her on that.
Bosda I have complete empathy. I have been going through the same sort of thing. Each specialist I see takes weeks or months to get in to see. Once in, I have (to date) found that they can’t help me. Or they think they can help me and they run several tests and then decide that they can’t. It is frustrating in the extreme. I am tired of being sick most days and waking up sick most nights…
None-the-less, I have renewed hope that this next guy is gonna be the one. I’ll see him again on the 15th. My last visit made me believe that he really knows what he is doing.
Please do your best to keep your spirits up. Sending warm thoughts your way.
