Reno 911-Miami

I tried to search for a thread on this, but couldn’t find one.
Saw this movie today. To say it sucked would be an insult to suck.
Bits and pieces of supposed funny scenes pasted together, some so stupid you wonder why they thought it would work.
The premise was good; they get invited to Miami’s police convention, but when they get there, are not on the lsit and cannot enter the hotel.
Suddenly, there was a biaohazard terrorist contaminent in the hotel and they are the only ones freely allowed around to solve things.
But it just peters out in bits and pieces, no chase scene, no resolution that doesn’t seem like it was a mistake and they thought of it at the last minute.
Phooey!
It is sad to say the movie would’ve actually been improved by adding Rob Schneider to it says it all.
Only good scene was during the credits, with them taking an object from an air traveler which looks like an elabortae bong, putting their mouths on it, and having the man say its an anal examining device, as hes a proctologist.

Also was disappointed with the revealing of Dangle as gay, which is why the Aspen force fired him. We should’ve bene kept wondering.
That is all.

Dangle screwing every guy he can on the tv show didn’t raise a rainbow flag with you? :dubious:

Dangle’s gayness was no revelation. He like, has sex with men on the TV show.

I laughed at some parts of the movie but I didn’t like the device of taking them out of Reno. The show works best when the cast is facing mundane situations. Putting them in the middle of a movie plot isn’t right for this ensemble. The best humor in the show arises from the ordinary and from the cast’s ability to improvise and riff off of each other. I have a lot of affection for the television show but it doesn’t work that well as a movie. I hope they keep making the TV show, though.

I’d go see the movie if Comedy Central hadn’t run the series into the ground. It’s pretty funny, but I’m not sure about a full-length movie. I’ll wait until it comes out on DVD or on cable.

Robin

I’ve watched the show many times. I must have missed those parts where he had sex with other men.

This is exactly what my wife and I thought. Because the show focuses on the banal, it works best when it’s limited to half an hour. Anything longer yields the temptation to tie it all together with a plot, and that’s just not the foundation of the show. Furthermore, the plot is just dumb.

Did you see the episode where Jones helps Dangle move?

Doesn’t ring a bell. Guess I missed that one. Oh well, I guess it was news to me only! Like when it took me 20 years of admiring John Waters and reading his books to realize he was gay. Yeah, call me clueless.

I don’t believe it. Next you will be telling me Alvy Singer is a Jew.

[Homer]Mel Brooks is jewish?![/Homer]

I’ve watched the show periodically, always hoping that at some point they’d learn how to do comedy. Did that ever happen?

I saw it last night. The ladyfriend and I laughed. Yeah, it was dumb and the “plot” was thin but many of the individual gags still made us crack up.

Dangle has come on to Jones so many times I didn’t think Dangle’s orientation was in any doubt to either the audience or the force.

What’s up, assholes - are you having a suckfest convention?

Obviously it was planned and executed as a low budget B-movie. Nobody in their right mind would go into the theater expecting Lawrence of Arabia. It was funny enough for me in most places. The druglord, the alligator, the Rock, Terry, all amusing.

RTA - That sort of comment is NOT acceptable in this forum. Cool it.

I believe the “suckfest” comment by RTA was intended as a light-hearted quote from the movie rather than an insult. If so, it could have been put in context better to reduce confusion.

My wife and I saw it. We loved it. It dragged in parts, and the semi-plot often got in the way, but all-in-all it gave us a decent Reno 911 fix. As with the series, lots of the humor was with the subtle things. I laughed when Dangle ripped off his sunglasses in the manner of Horatio on CSI: Miami.

I think they played up Dangle’s bisexualness more in the early episodes. I’ve been re-watching the first season, and in the first or second episode he makes out with a guy he stopped for a traffic infraction.

Well I’m not going to get defensive about it. I like the show, but its just fine not wahooo funny. The movie was no less than I expected. Quite funny at times. The people I went with couldn’t catch their breath from laughing.

“Why that there alligator is dead.”
