Since the upgrade there’s that handy/dandy “report this post to a moderator” button.
Has this increased the level/number of posts being reported for problems?
IN the past when I’ve sent off emails to mods about quadrupled posted threads et al, I’ve dug out my handy/dandy list of moderator/admins addresses and depending on the severity of the issue, emailed a few or many folk about the problem. THis , of course, took time to carefully construct ( ) the email, the link to the thread, and description of problem, decide to whom it should go etc.
and of course, I only went through that kind of effort when the situation was really aggrivated. So I speculated that many others would have shrugged it off as “oh, well, they’ll eventually notice 17 threads about why goat pee is purple in GD”, vs. emailing, however now w/the new feature 'tis no tribble a’tall.
So - are y’all getting lots more emails now???
(note, I did not email ya and ask… but I have to confess I did think about it, and decided that the cute irony factor would be outweighed by the ‘annoying little tramp’ factor )
Yes, we’re getting more e-mail because of the new button. But we’ve also found it to be a very handy tool.
The description on the page you see when you hit the button is vB boilerplate. But there is some truth to what it says. It varies per moderator, but personally, I’d rather not get e-mails about double posts and coding errors. Someone will see them and fix them, or they won’t - it’s usually not a huge deal, anyway.
A quadruple thread might be a valid reason, I guess. But the function is best used for stuff that needs immediate attention, like spammers, or people bitch-slapping each other in an otherwise peaceful Britney Spears thread.
Does it send an email to each of the moderators for that particular forum, or is there a designated name? (I’m just interested to know how it works, that’s all; if this is classified information, just ignore me)
When you use the “Report this post to a moderator” function, your e-mail is automatically encrypted using a 1,024-bit Public Key Algorithm and uploaded to the ModStar Orbital Satellite System–to whichever of the stealthed orbital stations is currently overhead in your sector of the world–via a secure laser communications beam. From there, the signal is relayed to the orbital station which happens to be currently passing over Chicago, which beams it down to the SDMB Command, Control, and Communications (C[sup]3[/sup]) Systems Center, which then uploads it into the Direct Neural Interfaces of each of the Mods for that particular forum.
Unless the system is down again, in which case it just sends a regular e-mail to each Moderator for that forum.
