Revenge of the Fifth- A Post Holiday MMP

This is how hopelessly sentimental I am: I was looking into donating my body to science, and when I got to the part about the memorial gardens where ashes are interred, I started crying while thinking about how my kids will feel visiting there. Yeesh. They’re grown, each happily married, and thriving, but I feel bad about leaving them. Madonn’.

@swampbear, I love thunderstorms that come out of nowhere and grumble off into the distance.

Watching Tomorrow War. There are UH-60 Black Hawks. The ‘biggest’ helicopter I’ve flown is a Schweizer 300 CBi. I said to The Missus, ‘How cool would it be to fly one of those? Oh, right. You did.’ She said, ‘It’s pretty cool.’

Evening all. Not much accomplished, I was going to do stuff this evening but got distracted by the last hour of Thor: Ragnarok, and right after that was Infinity War which is my favorite Avengers film…so night pretty much wasted.

flyboy, have ridden in some Bell 206’s and MD 500’s, but while I have been on the production line and watched them being built, never flew in one.

Nut, glad the move is done (for now). Enjoy some piece and quiet.

OK, need to go watch the climatic battle from Avengers: Endgame (yes, I am a Marvel junkie). All y’all have a good night (or good morning as the case may be).

yep until 2 years ago all kenmore cleaning appliances were whirlpool and it might even be possibly on the fridge ,

When a nightmare and my bladder woke me last night, I could have sworn I heard voices from the living room. FCD was asleep so I thought maybe the cat stepped on the remote and turned the TV on. But when I opened the bedroom door - nothing! Once I was back in bed, the a/c cycled off… and the voices stopped!!! :open_mouth: So weird - it truly sounded like a deep voice.

Then there was another rhythmic sound, but I figured out pretty quick it was the ceiling fan. So I fell back to sleep till shortly after 5.

We’re promised rain this afternoon and evening. It looks overcast right now, and temps are upper 60s, so on the cooler side at least. FCD will continue working on his design project and I’m thinking I’ll get some studio time today. No real plans or things that have to be done. So onward - perhaps an adventure will present itself!

Happy Sunday!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 71 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy (partly moony?) with a predicted high of 91 and maybe kinda N.O.S. and maybe or maybe not rain. It’s to the point of who knows anymore. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization wherein I have ush duty and afterward we have refreshment duty. Members of the Vestry are takin’ turns providin’ refreshments after deheathenization. Nuttin’ special, just individual packaged cookies and such, lemonade, and water. I got this big box of Oreos and Chips Ahoy mix. Two Oreos or two Chips Ahoy to the pack. Once we dispense with all that we shall have a McN.O,.L. I imagine sloth shall rule the rest of the day.

Nut yay for gettin’ the move over and done! Hopefully you can chill for a bit before the new gig.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. Judging by the dew on the windows, it may be a tad humid.

Yeah, it’s warming back up (and getting hyoomid) here in western Mitten State. I’m afraid Coolio’s days of slothage are coming to an end.

The parental units arrived yesterday. My mother promptly sent me a list of stuff she needs/wants while she’s here (a kettle, mug, cutting boards, a big pot w a lid, etc.). I have most of that stuff … and the majority is in my sink, waiting to be cleaned. :upside_down_face:

She comes for cherry picking, and currants if she can get them. Nearly (or possibly already past) 80 years old, my father is mid-80s and has health problems galore … but still, this crazy woman goes to this much trouble, to pick fruit for herself. Then dehydrate it, schlep it all back to Texas … the woman’s crazy pants.

Well, that’s her problem. I’m off to work in an hour.

Happy Sunday!

It was a cloudy humid morning at the park.
New dog came in and Echo behaved herself, even when the new dog leaned up against me while I was petting her.
I thought it was going to rain, but now the sun is shining, so maybe not.
Supposed to get hot though.

Thought about taking the truck for a wash today, but we have the dogs and I’m not sure how that will work with the vacuuming. So, I thought about taking it Wed after my son gets off irk and I take the brats to daycare. Then I realized that won’t irk, because I won’t have the truck to pick the dogs up from daycare.
Giving the truck a bath is back onto today’s agenda.

Spent a good bit of time with my son yesterday trying to set up his 401k account and couldn’t get it to go through. My friend, his boss, said there is a problem that HR has to handle, because she has been trying to help other employees set it up and she can’t get the system to irk either.

Then I spent several hours on the phone with AT&T getting the phones switched into his name.
Very irritating, because everything was supposed to be fixed by Firday, and I was supposed to get a call, and none of that happened. When I tried to make the switch online, I got a message that I had to call. When I finally get a live person, he tells me I can do it through the website. When he tried to help me, his accent was so thick I could barely understand him. I’ve noticed this happens whenever the CS person has to go off script. He had to send me to somebody else, in the wrong department, who also had to go off script and I couldn’t understand a word he was saying. He got me to the right department, but it still took over an hour with a nice lady (with an accent) who had some trouble, but finally figured it out. Poor woman had to talk to my son, who then has to ask me for the information because he has no clue.
I have to wait another 72 hours (we’ll see) and then I can put in for his employee discount.
The nice lady also told me that it would actually be cheaper if I add another phone to the plan. I don’t need another phone, however, if I can get a better plan for less money by having 4 phones, I’ll think about it.

Oopsie, you actually go to DC voluntarily? How strange!
I know a jazz musician that plays the trumpet; I wonder if you know him - not that I’ll name him on the board. He’s played with Dizzy Gillepsie and other jazz greats. He was on Conan? with Thievery Corporation some years back. Kind of cool, really nice guy.

Going to leave now for the car wash, hope it’s not too crowded this early in the morning.
Then my son had to weed whack the side yard.
I’ve decided to do one room a day to gather stuff for the Purple Heart. I wonder if they would want a dog crate?

Morning all. Sleepage seems to be working the Midnight-to-Eight shift, which is alright by me. Just noted I have a dental appointment to work on my teeth tomorrow morning at 8:45am, so I guess I’d probably better set the alarm. Rain and tunder-boomers should be here shortly (note: They’re here…) so it looks like a wet morning. I’m still debating on eating out, I have a list of 8-9 places I usually go for Sunday dinner, but I make the last one “My Choice”, so I can try other places…and right now nothing sounds real good to me. Guess I’ll either find one or not.

Sari, hope the car wash doesn’t traumatize the pups too much.

Swampy, Oreo’s and Chips Ahoy are two of the primary reasons I don’t keep cookies in my house…because I make them disappear to fast. Enjoy the service.

Your HVAC is learning Jedi mind tricks…

OK, glad I got the newspaper in first thing, it’s raining pretty good right now. All y’all take care.

Glad we got to the carwash early. There were already several people there when we got there. By the time we left, it was getting busy.
Before I put it in the shop, I’ll take all the seat covers out and wash them. Then my son gets the joy and happiness job of putting them back in. I can do the back seat cover, but the front ones are a bitch to get on.
The dogs were not happy MetalMouse. Echo flipped out when the vacuum came on. Ripple doesn’t like it, but he is more chill about things. I sat outside with them while my son vacuumed.
Echo didn’t like the pressure washer either, but she survived. She’s more upset by noises than Ripple is, although neither is bothered by thunder or fireworks.
We stopped at Sonic on the way home and they each got a pup cup to make up for it.

Now I’m chilling a bit before I get into the linen closet and see what I can donate.

Lunch break!

I’ve been playing with clay. I reconstituted several good-sized lumps and put some more dried-out clay in water to soften. And I started making a turtle dish (that is, a dish that looks like a turtle) using the slab roller. Unfortunately, since it’s been unused so long, the positioning screws were dirty and maybe a little corroded. But with FCD’s muscle, some silicone spray lubricant, and a little wire brush, we got the threads cleaned up and it’s moving smoothly again. Huzzah!

I’m trying to decide what to make with all this clay. I wish I was more artistic and less practical - bowls and planters get boring after a while. My daughter did ask for a planter like I’d made in one of my classes - maybe I’ll do that for her.

It’s very humid out, with a slight chance of rain later this afternoon. And we’ve got a week of low 90s, both temp and humidity… ugh. I’ll need to remember to water my veggie patch in a couple of days. I saw 3 babby zucchini and one eeeeeensy little cuke, plus some 'maters are starting to turn red, but I don’t think my peppers plants will bear anything - they look sad. And something is eating my sunflowers, dammit.

What to do now? Is that DQ I hear calling???

Last night was awesome. I knew all of the musicians, and it was my first time getting to hear them live since before the pandemic started (well, except the drummer, who I saw at a show last month). It was just wonderful to be back inside hearing live jazz – vocals and all – as part of an audience. The friends I made the plans with left after the first set (as they always do), but three other friends showed up for the second set – coincidentally, and separately – and we sat together. Much better than sitting at the bar alone for the rest of the night!

Everything was terrific until the very end of the night, when I walked back to the garage that I’d parked my car in. The garage that had a sign saying it was open until midnight. The garage that was closed when I got there at 11:30pm. There was a sign posted outside with an after-hours number to call, and a note that the after-hours service would result in a $50 fee. Having little other choice, I called the number and the guy said it would take him 30 min to get to me. Luckily, the weather was beautiful and it was a safe place for a woman to be alone for a half hour late at night. When the guy arrived and saw the sign that clearly said the garage was open until midnight on Saturdays, he agreed to waive the $50 fee. {phew} So all in all, the only damage was that I got home 30 min after I should have. That experience could have been much worse/more expensive.

Today I am slowly recovering from all of the fun. I was out much later than normal and I didn’t drink enough water to accompany my 1.5 beers, so this morning was a tad rough but now it’s nearly 1pm ET and I’m feeling more myself. I’ve been easing into the day by hanging out on the Dope, ordering groceries to be delivered tomorrow, and watching half of my pre-surgery “behavioral health” modules. At some point, I’ll figure out what I want to eat for lunch.

The next jazz show I’m going to is in two weeks, at an outdoor venue (fingers crossed for tolerable humidity!!) with good food and a great vibe. The band will be killin’: an all-female trio (bass, drums, and piano) who tend to smoke whatever stage they’re on. It’ll be my first time seeing/hearing them live since the pandemic started, too.

Have I mentioned how happy I am that live music is back?

Always watch out for that fine print… (LOL!)

Ha!

I love the Marvel movies: I’ve seen everything in Phase One and Phase Two, and all of the Phase Three movies except Spider Man: Far From Home. I should probably get moving on that, because Phase Four has started now (with Black Widow). Thank goodness for Disney+!

Tangentially related: I moved into my current house seven years ago, and it took 2-3 summers to finally learn that “that noise” was the attic fan. {sigh}

:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

If he’s at that level, at best I might have heard of him. I did a Google search: are his initials BC? If so, his name rings a distant bell but I’ve never heard/seen him play.

Do you get HBO Max? If so, have you seen the British competition series The Great Pottery Throw Down? I have zero artistic ability and have never so much as touched any clay (unless Play-Doh counts??), but it’s quite compelling and some of the things the contestants make are gorgeous. I’m looking forward to the next season becoming available. Anyway, if you have access, maybe it could be a source of inspiration.

I had the opposite problem when I did pottery classes- I made an awful lot of kind of cute little things that had no discernible use. Fun to make, but what on earth do you do with them? Especially when you have dozens?

I’ve mostly spend today sorting out stuff like changing addresses on accounts- I’ve done almost everything that needs to be done, aside from the car ownership, which has to be done by post and one bank which still requires me to go in in person. I’ll get the car sorted tomorrow, the bank is trickier.

I also moved stuff from one friend’s garage (who now needs the space) to another’s (who doesn’t). I still have one empty beehive in yet another friend’s garage, and a full beehive in Cornwall to rearrange. It’s going to be over a year before I can possibly keep bees again, so I’m still working on that one…

I now intend to slob for the rest of the evening, switch my brain off, and not watch even a little bit of football. A bit of me is hoping England lose, otherwise some people are never going to shut up about it…

Happy, Happy Sunday! T-48 until I leave for Chicago. I have a list of to-do’s I hope to make into a list of Tah-dah’s. And my kids will call today. Though I saw one less than a week ago, there’s already lots to say.

It’s lovely and cloudy here, so I should get the outside stuff done before the sun comes out. Speaking of which, stay cool, southwestern US Mumpers. Dang, that climate change is smiting you like a mighty sword. :frowning:

Last night I dreamed Neptune had spun out of its orbit and was on a collision course with Earth. There was a desperate hope that humankind could nudge it away if all 7 billion of us blew on these shrill little plastic whistles. I don’t know about Neptune, but the noise made ME want to get the heck out of there.

Speaking of sleep experiences…FCM, I think I know what you mean about the voices. When I was in the hospital with my first babby, I couldn’t figure out why I kept hearing an electric guitar. It was a heating vent: something in the sound it made led my brain to think my ears were hearing guitar. I think there’s a term for this but don’t recall what it is.

Oopsie, glad you had a great time (Just how big were those 1.5 beers? ) and very glad you didn’t have to pay the $50 for the garage’s error.

Sari, I love that your dogs got a pup cup to make up for the car-cleaning experience. Also, kudos on making it through that long, frustrating process of switching the phones. I always feel bad when I can’t understand people, but heck, they wouldn’t understand me if I tried to speak their first language.

shoe, so your mother does the dehydrating at your place? Doesn’t it take…days to get through all that fruit? How long are you to be blessed with their presence?

nevermind

Well, Nut, I’m sort of rooting for England just so people (we have a few English-born folks around here in the youth soccer programs) will shut up about that…we’ll see, I think Italy may have the better team.

Oopsie, sounds like a wonderful night…outside of the car. Hope the next one is just as good. And for some reason I just can’t get into the Spiderman series, but yeah, need to go see Ms. Romanov and maybe find out what happened in Budapest (no spoilers, please).

FCM, have fun playing with clay. Only thing I ever made was in Jr. High, it was supposed to be my dachshund, it…almost looked like a dog, I think I still have it around the house somewhere…

Sari, I guess different noises for different canines…much like people that way.

Nellie, well, at least it was Neptune and not Uranus coming to kill us all…

Rain has stopped and I finally went to a place called Big Daddy’s Burger Bar, which I had visited when they opened and couldn’t remember what they were like, Much calmer now, and the burgers were great and the fries better than average. But pricey…nearly as much as a dinner at Logan’s, but worth it for a treat.

Now waiting for the soccer game to start in about an hour, then will see what else I can manage for the day. All y’all take care.

I wound up having lunch delivered: a burger and a muffin from a local place. I also got a ham-and-cheese sandwich and a cookie for dinner later. I’ve mostly been eating a lot better since the start of June, including recording everything I eat (with calorie amounts, etc.), but I’ve decided that I’m not counting this weekend.

I’m enjoying an afternoon of hanging out on the couch with my dog and watching TV while considering a nap. I watched the new episode of Vacation House Rules that my TiVo recorded yesterday, and now I’m on a British reality/documentary series about customs officers (called, enigmatically, Customs).

Y’all might notice that I watch/mention a lot of British shows: my family lived in England (Yorkshire) from ‘83 - ‘85, so I like to think that I came by my Anglophilia honestly.

Just pints…LOL. It might have helped if I’d mentioned that I rarely drink anymore. I don’t keep alcohol in the house, so I only drink when I’m out, and in the past 16 months that’s only happened a handful of times. I wasn’t even buzzed, but I’m out of practice when it comes to remembering to drink enough water to offset the alcohol.

Same here! I seem to always put off watching them.

Never heard of it, but I will look for it. I think I did better when taking classes only because we had assignments, so I knew what to do. One of my favorites was to make something 2-3 times bigger than its real-life counterpart. I made this - it’s one of my favorite pieces
Imgur
But there’s not a lot of call for ceramic copies of office supplies…

nut - I’ve made a few monsters - one is actually a little container that FCD uses for paperclips. I’d like to make more, but I feel like they have to serve some sort of purpose - maybe as candle holders? hmmmmm…

I’m thinking tonight’s supper will involve foraging. It will also involve the 3 cherry tomatoes I’ve harvested. Yum! Apart from that, I think chillage is in order.

Well, I finally got the shredder fixed. Had to take it apart and void the warranty :scream: to do it.
Good thing I’m mechanically reclined.
Now I can get back to rounding up all my old issues of Model Railroading magazine and tossing them in the recycle bin. Nobody wants 'em. Srsly.

Wifey has about 30 years worth of old Golf Digest magazines in one of the upstairs closets. I haven’t had the nerve to ask her about them. Yet.

Oh, and I have a monster that I made a few years ago. Wifey wanted to take a class and talked me into going with. It was fun. I might keep it.
