It was 72 degrees at the park this morning, supposed to be miserably hot later today.
I don’t know what came over Echo this morning, but she took off running around the park. We thought she was chasing something, she even got Lucy to run with her, but nothing. I guess she just got a case of the zoomies.
Poor Lucy though, she stays in the trees all the time, determined to get a squirrel. We call her the invisible dog, because the most you ever see of her is her legs. I guess when she saw Echo running through the trees, she thought there must be a reason.
Her poor dad, he says he knows people think he is ‘the creepy old man without a dog, who sits at the park all day’. He’s been asked several times if he has a dog.
I feel for him sometimes because there are at least 3 dogs who come there who share his first name.
OAOASO has a name that is common for dogs and he hates it.
FCM, you may have known some of my friends. They lived on Doris, green house, I think in the 400 block. An aunt and uncle lived further down the block.
You made me laugh, Shoe.
Glen Burnie wasn’t such a horrible place to grow up. The mall, the movies, the library, were all within walking distance. We walked everywhere, and it was perfectly safe to do so. It’s still not too bad, but everybody makes fun of it.
Including me.
As usual, I have a ton of stuff to do.
I need to retire just to get stuff done around here.
The only one I ever met in that neighborhood was the lady across the back alley from me - I think her name was Hazel, and I used to share my excessive cherry tomato bounty with her. When I lived there, I worked in the Pentagon, so I had long days, what with the commute, and weekends were dedicated to chores or crashing, so I never saw any neighbors, much less got to know any.
I’ve been productive! Two loads of laundry out on the lines - I hope the fresh air and sunshine wipes out the scent of the laundry detergent. I prefer unscented, but for some stupid reason (probably a good sale) I bought this stuff that’s heavily scented. Smells like a laundromat. Dammit. So c’mon fresh air and sunshine!!!
I scored some used steaks at Food Lion and they’re marinating for supper tonight. Not sure if FCD is going to want to go to the ballgame or not - he’s really hurting today, and even if I drop him off at the stadium entrance, we’ve got to get to our seats, which involves steps down. And I won’t be able to pick him up at the entrance after - and he refuses to get a handicap hang tag, so we can’t even park close. I’m predicting no game tonight, but we’ll see.
I just received a text message telling me I have “a missing or incorrect information in your Driver’s license.” Thinks I should click on the link in the text???
Grr. I had to wait four months for an appointment with the optometrist who could potentially help me to see almost normally. The special machine needed to fit the custom contact lenses is only available at a very few places, and this eye clinic is it. Today I was to leave by 7:30 a.m… At 7:20 I got a call: appointment cancelled. Next available appointment: FIVE months from now. And they never get patient cancellations. So I’ll have waited NINE months to get in to see her, IF she doesn’t cancel the next appointment.
This is at the eye clinic where my ophthalmologists practice, so it’s not like I’m a new patient. I’m swearing in two languages.
Pigs? As in…pigs? Can’t be, but now I have an image of you hoisting and heaving some very startled hogs. is more fun than , so thanks!
Heh. Wifey got a handicap tag when she got her first knee replacement. We quickly got over any embarrassment. We still use it occasionally when I’m having a particularly bad day, walking like an old man.
1980 is the year my family moved there, from New Carrollton (and Laurel before that). Except for '83-85 (when we were overseas), my mom lived in the same house until she had to move to assisted living in 2012.
Y’all might want to wait and see if I’m able to make this a regular thing. But I would be honored to have a Mumper name…even if it’s “Oops”!
Ahhh, you were in Glen Burnie proper: we were in Ferndale, with only the railroad tracks into Linthicum within walking distance. I have fond memories of the Glen Burnie mall (and Harundale), even though Marley Station opened while I was in HS and immediately became everyone’s favorite. My how things have changed…
I’m back in the office today, and even though I’m the only one here it’s good to be back. I miss my dog, my kitchen, and my windows (I’m in an interior office), but I have my iPod playing and I’m able to take calls on speakerphone and it was kinda nice to “go to work” again this morning. This will be the longest I’ve left my dog alone since the pandemic started…I’m sure she’ll be just fine, but it’ll be good to see her later. I think this T/W/TH schedule will work out well. I look forward to seeing the two co-workers who will be here tomorrow.
I guess I will just wait to get stabbed until I move- due to the system, it’s unlikely I’d be able to get one earlier, but I guess it’s only another 10 days. The way things are going here though, I want my immunity now please.
I am now sharing this place with 4 random guys. It was messy enough before. I’m counting down the hours…
In my earlier snit, I forgot to mention that today is a very happy day. It’s my brother’s birthday AND my son’s birthday! So glad they were born (30 years apart)!
Otter Pops have proudly stopped putting food coloring in so they’re all kind of tan now. You have to peer at the label to see which flavor you’re holding.
Happy Birthday to NellieBro and NellieSon and Feliz Cumpleanos, and Sto Lat!
I’m not gonna get into the details of my recent employment travails, nor whine here about finances. (I already stuck a Pit post in the Mini-rants thread for that.)
I just wanna say I start a new job TOMORROW and while I’m of course happy to be working - those wolves are howling at my door lately - I’m also simply looking forward to the work itself.
It may be retail food service, but it’s MEAT related, and I iz a carnivore.
I drove the Jeep to Seattle today. Even though I was going under the speed limits, I still only eked out about 20.5 mpg. It has a set of Yakima rails and a Loadwarrior basket, which really does have an effect on miles per gallon; though I don’t recall the numbers. Also, the Jeep has just under 230,000 miles on it.
So somehow I’ll have to get the 3/4" plywood from the construction table out of the basement. I don’t have a tape, but it looks like the big sheet is 38 inches by six feet, and the sides are 36" x 38". There are also two pieces about a foot by six feet, and a table top about the same size as the large sheet. I’m planning to make a little woodshed out of it.
One of my sisters lives in Linthicum - when I have to fly, I leave my car at her house and she takes me to BWI. My bro is in Timonium, and my mom and the other 2 sisters are in Harford county, near Jarretsville. My folks sold the Towson/Parkville row house in '79 - by then, the 3 oldest of us were out on our own, so just my 2 youngest sisters moved with Mom and Dad. But really, I’m tho only one who left home - apart from the30 months I was at the Pentagon, I’ve not lived in the Baltimore area since '73. And we settled here because of the boating, but we sold our boat 10 years ago. Still, we love this area. Not that anyone asked…
No ballgame tonight - FCD was barely able to walk out to his shop and back. I pretty much expected that we wouldn’t go. And as hot as it’s going to be, I don’t really mind. We’ll have another chance in 2 weeks (or sooner if we buy tickets rather than use our Silver Slugger tickets. No biggie either way.
I’ve been reading. I think I shall get back to my book. I think someone has just been murdered - he hasn’t been seen in 2 days, so, yeah, probably murdered…
End of the day (practically). I got some files processed, returned an uncounted number of emails, wrote some more emails, and loaded that plywood onto the Jeep. Currently I have 52 emails of work to do, Serves me right for taking a week off.
